Work Text:
Solar was tired. Not just from the karens at work, the children at the daycare, or even his newest family. He just felt... Tired. Of existence. Of all the pain and suffering and having to live with the scars so deep in his body and soul it almost felt like they were still bleeding out, raw to the touch.
He got out of bed, slipping on his only shirt and putting his light blue jacket over it. He hasn't asked for much, although it would feel nice to have more than the clothing he was currently wearing.
He walked out of his room, the familiar sound of Sun in the kitchen playing through his audio sensors. It had taken much too long to see his new cousin or brother or whoever Sun was, as someone different from Sunny. Solar still sometimes felt chills run down his spine whenever Sun was talking to Eclipse and used his name.
Solar sat down at the table, taking in the scene. Moon was talking to Solar about some project, Earth was over for breakfast to help cook, and Lunar was already grabbing a spoon to eat nutella straight from the container. Ew.
Moon snapped his fingers suddenly, making Solar flinch. "-Wha?" Solar felt like he had woken back up from some trance as Moon stared at him, looking a little worried. "Solar. You're zoning out like crazy. Is everything ok?" Solar nodded silently. Moon was nice, a newer version of another Moon. Solar always wondered if he felt the same horror, knowing you were in the body of someone else, someone dead.
Earth placed a cup of coffee in front of both of them as she spoke. "Oh, I'm sure he is quite alright! He probably still needs some time to wake up. When did you fall asleep last night?" Earth's voice felt artificially sweet as she sat down. "Around... Midnight, maybe." He would never admit he hadn't slept more than maybe an hour total, the time fading away as he had planned. A plan that would stop the pain, one that he had been thinking of for a long time coming.
"Y'know, you should really be taking that melatonin Lunar got you. It might've been for a joke, but I'm starting to think you might actually need some." Sun's voice was edged with obvious worry as he set down the food. Pancakes, eggs and bacon. Solar grabbed his plate as the table conversation faded into the background.
Earth was getting closer to Monty, Lunar was being shunned by Sun for his unhealthy eating habits, and Moon... Solar glanced up to see Moon staring at him, not saying anything direct but clearly looking a bit worried.
After the meal, Solar volunteered to clean up, hoping for some time alone. However, Moon offered to help Sun with the dishes, leaving them alone together. Moon kept glancing to Solar, who was wiping off the table.
"Y'know," Moon began as he closed the dishwasher and looked over to Solar. "You've been.... Off, lately. You're more relaxed, which is definitely a good thing, but you also keep zoning out. Its starting to worry me." Solar stopped wiping for a second as he processed. "I've just had a lot on my mind."
Moon placed a hand on his hip as he stepped a little closer to Solar. "Is it the bodyguard for Lunar? I'm pretty sure he'll thank us for it. Besides, we can probably send it out early if we skip out on the voice box. I can use one of my older ones." Solar tensed up for a just a second, long enough for Moon to notice.
"....Right. By the way, wheres the medicine cabinet at? I keep getting sore and maybe some pain meds will help." Moon seemed to take a moment, surprised by the sudden shift in topic, before he pointed to the cabinet about the stove. "Its right there. We had no better place to put it, since Sun insisted putting it in the bathroom would be 'unsanitary'." Moon explained with a tired tone of voice when Solar seemed confused by that place of all options.
Solar nodded, heading to the cabinet and grabbing a bottle of unopened pain meds. Moon started speaking again as Solar shoved the bottle into his jacket pocket. "If those don't work, I can always turn down your pain sensors. It might be a different issue other than just soreness." Solar nodded as they both continued cleaning.
After they finished, Solar was dragged to work along with Sun and Moon. It was boring. Hour after hour after hour of nothingness interrupted by the occasional child getting snacks. He seriously wondered just how many parents trusted their toddlers to get chips without spilling it or doing some bullshit, but it really was none of his business. His lunch break was almost a blessing.
He stripped off his dirty jacket, staring at the pill bottle. He just had to wait a little longer. He took off his gross shirt next, biting his tongue to stop a cry of pain from coming out as the scratchy fabric was pulled along the deep grooves in his arms. He took off his gloves, staring at the obvious bite marks before he put everything into the washer. It rattled a lot, which was indeed annoying at first, although Solar had learned it could drown out a lot of things.
He leaned against it, nibbling on his hand nervously as the rumble was almost like a shitty massage. No one had walked in on him during this time before, no one had ever seen the cuts and scrapes running deep into his arms before, but the door that didn't lock always stressed him out. He was vulnerable, his wounds open for anyone to see if they just visited him at the wrong time.
Moon used to come sometimes, although he had stopped recently since the bodyguard for Lunar needed his full attention. The washer finished, and Solar moved it to the dryer. He hated how warm it usually made his clothing, since he very easily overheated. One of the cons of his older body.
After what felt like another lifetime, his clothes were done and he could finally have the comfort of his jacket again. He didn't put on his shirt since he might get too hot, plus no one would care since no one could even tell anyway. When he stepped out, the routine of nothingness and minimal amounts of stimulation once again took hold.
After what felt like forever, Sun finally walked in, which snapped him out of his boredom induced trance. "Hey, Solar! Is everything going well?" Solar blinked slowly before nodded. "Just the usual. Was there something you needed?" Sun did a little thumbs up. "Yeah, actually. I was wondering if you wanted to join Moon and I for movie night?" Solar nodded again, which seemed to satisfy the Sunny bot, who decided to leave the theater lobby right after.
Another half hour and Solar locked everything up before using the teleporter to head to the beach house. He walked into the living room, seeing blankets covering the laps of both Sun and Moon, who were already bickering over what movie to actually watch. "Oh! Hey!" Moon said as soon as he noticed Solar standing awkwardly near the front door.
Solar sat next to Sun, trying to give the other plenty of space, which resulted in Solar glancing nervously while sitting a good few inches away. Sun sighed gently, sounding a little disappointed before he spoke. "So, Solar, did you have a movie in mind?" Solar nodded, taking the remote handed to him and clicking on a movie that made Moon raise a brow.
"...9? Is that a good one?" Before Solar could gather the brain cells to answer, Sun loudly clapped his hands. "We're stalling! Lets start before the popcorn gets cold!" The movie was finally started. It was nice, familiar, and it was a bit funny to see both of them realize just how dark the movie was.
After the movie, Solar excused himself so he could go to bed. "Hey, Solar?" Moon's voice was gentle as he grabbed Solar by the wrist. "Are you sure you'll be ok?" Solar nodded, and when he realized Moon wasn't taking that for an answer, he finally spoke. "...yeah. I'll be fine. We can work on the project tomorrow." Moon finally let him go, letting Solar go to his room.

Moon was worried for Solar. He was cleaning up the couch, the thoughts surrounding Solar complicated and worrying. After he dumped the blankets into the wash, he left to check on Solar. The door was unlocked, which wasn't too surprising since he sometimes forgot to.
Solar was sleeping peacefully, the charger attached to his head and the blanket over his shoulders. Moon was about to leave until he noticed something odd on the floor. He walked over and picked it up, reading the label. It was the pain meds from earlier. He shook the bottle, his blood running cold when he realized the bottle that was once completely full was now empty. No rattling was heard.
He dropped it, rushing over to Solar. "Hey! Solar? Are you ok?" He started panicking even more when he realized Solar wasn't responding, as well as his fans that usually ran a little loud were now completely still and silent. "Sun! Sun get in here! Call Monty!"
