Unknown Island
Monkey D. Garp’s Haki-coated fist reshapes the island’s geography; the man targeted by the blow, Gol D. Roger, can be heard laughing loudly.
Oro Jackson’s two apprentices pause their game on the ship’s deck for a moment to look toward the site of the destruction. “They’re more excited than usual today,” said the girl sitting beside the two apprentices, watching the trees being uprooted and the dust cloud rising into the sky.
Shanks offers a broad smile in response to his friend’s words and returns to the card game. Completely indifferent to the chaos unfolding behind them, the two children paid no heed to Buggy’s outburst of fear and anger directed at both of them.
“Once they’re done with the island, we’ll have to erase it from the maps! Terrible monsters… Both of them are total monsters!” Buggy snorted, slamming his fist on the table, then suddenly narrowed his eyes. “Hey! Stop cheating!”
The white-haired girl gently placed the card she’d been trying to steal back in its spot with a gentle, innocent smile. As if she hadn’t just tried to cheat a moment ago, she returned to looking at her own cards with great composure. Blinking her violet eyes, she said, “I just wanted to make sure Shanks wasn’t stealing your cards.”
Buggy shot the girl a look that clearly showed he didn’t believe her. Still, he returned to the game. The three children continued playing, oblivious to the destruction unfolding on the island behind them. Oden’s beloved wife, Toki, smiled as she watched this sweet argument the children had gotten into while trying to cheat from a distance. Her own children slept peacefully, undisturbed by the successive bursts of Haki lightning and the tremors.
Suddenly, Shanks lifted his head from his deck of cards and looked out at the island’s shattered coastline. Roger and the Roger Pirates had burst out of the forest and were running toward the ship like madmen.
“Fall back!” Roger shouted, running at the front, drenched in sweat. His booming laughter echoed across the island. “Hoist the sails! Garp is coming!”
Without wasting a single second, Roger’s Pirates sprang into action like a perfectly oiled machine, swiftly casting the ship clear of the dock. As the Oro Jackson, caught in the current, sped out into the ocean, the crew simply laughed at Garp’s furious threats hurled from the shore.
Just as the ship reached safe waters and left the island completely behind, a moment of silence fell over the deck, and a little girl’s bewildered voice was heard:
“Does this… mean I’ve been kidnapped?”
