Danganronpa Alter: Turn Point Havoc

Summary:

The night after exploring the second floor of the school, Mondo Owada has a dream. A dream full of events that never happened, people he never met, and time he never had.

And yet, despite the ridiculousness of the dream, it continues to plague his mind well after he awakes. As he tries to balance the killing game he has found himself in, he can't help but wonder: why did this dream affect him in such an unusual way?

Part 2 of the Danganronpa Extra/Alter story! I highly recommend reading Danganronpa Extra: Communal Hope before this one!

Chapter 1: Boy’s Life of Dreams; Daily Life

“Adaptation… what a load of bullshit!!!”

Mondo stormed into his room, slamming the door behind him in a fit of rage.

“A whole day explorin’, and for what?!?! We found fuck all! A warehouse, a bathhouse, a couple of classrooms, a library and a swimming pool. A bunch of useless shit that won't help us escape this place at all!”

Mondo paced backwards and forwards in his room, the vein on his head throbbing with anger.

“And Celeste said I'm supposed to just ‘adapt’?!?! Maybe in that cuckoo crazy chick’s mind, that shit makes even the tiniest bit of sense. But I gotta get out of here! I got promises to keep, no matter what!!! I can't end up like Sayaka, Junko and Leon!!!”

“...”

“...”

“... I guess the bathhouse ain’t all that useless. At least I got somewhere I can cool down in the mornings now.”

Mondo took a deep breath, lowering his head dejectedly.

“Whatever. Gettin’ angry like this ain't gonna get me nowhere either. It’s nighttime, and without a good night's sleep, I might end up gettin’ sloppy. It's annoying to admit, but… I gotta just put up with it for now.”

Resigning himself to his fate, Mondo got ready for the night ahead, before finally getting in bed and falling asleep.

After being asleep for around an hour, Mondo suddenly found himself experiencing a strange dream.

In that dream, he was in a killing game, just like this one, and yet completely unlike it at the same time.

Monokuma was there, but he was… different. He did many impossible things, and yet lost control of his game. He was… an alien. No, five of them.

And he wasn't alone in this game either. Hina, Toko, Celeste and Byakuya were also there. And… there were others, too. Eleven others.

Some of them died. Like that girl he dug, Mahiru Koizumi.

But… some of them didn't. Hiyoko Saionji, Ryoma Hoshi, Nekomaru Nidai, Tenko Chabashira, as well as Hina and Toko…

His family… the ones he spent five months with, who he loved dearly.

And then, it all came to an end.

They defeated the aliens together, and with it put an end to their insane game. But by doing so, everything they did was undone, and they were returned to their games.

And as he sat around, waiting for the end-

Mondo’s eyes shot open, his heart beating wildly as he was suddenly overcome by a feeling of overwhelming sorrow.

“Wh… What the… What the fuck…?” He muttered weakly, stumbling out of bed as he tried desperately to get his bearings.

His head light and his steps shaky, he made his way over to his bathroom, grabbing onto the sink for stability.

“What the… fuck was that…?”

“That dream… it felt so… real…”

As he stared at his reflection in the mirror above his sink, he began to regain his balance.

“That don't feel like… no dream I’ve ever had before… Those five months… I remember everythin’ that happened during them. That ain't normal. Is this… some trick by Monokuma… or…?”

The more he thought about the dream, the more his mind began to race, and the more confused he felt.

And yet, for everything he didn't understand, one thing was clear.

“I ain't gonna be able to sleep like this. There ain't no way. I gotta… I gotta…”

As Mondo tried to figure out what to do next, he suddenly remembered something that had opened up this morning.

“The bathhouse… a little while in there ought to clear my head!”

Even though he had gone to the bathhouse to clear his head, Mondo only found himself dwelling further on that strange dream.

No matter how much he told himself it was just a dream, he couldn't stop his heart from aching.

Every time he thought about those people he fought those aliens with, his heart only hurt with further longing to be with them once more.

“The fuck is wrong with you, Mondo?! Why are ya gettin’ caught up on some crazy fuckin’ dream?! It's just some figment of your imagination. Probably from the stress of the past few days. I bet those people I don't recognise don't even exist.”

As he thought that, his heart stabbed with an indescribable pain.

“Rrrrrrrrrrgh, so why does it hurt so bad?! This clearly ain't no normal dream!”

“Maybe… I should talk to Hina and Toko about this! They might know-”

Mondo shook his head, scowling angrily at himself.

“The fuck am I thinkin’? I can't just go up to those two and mention somethin’ like this! They’d think I’m losin’ it!”

“And if they start thinkin’ that I'm snapping...”

“Then I might be cut off… or worse…”

Mondo’s eyes widened as he realised the true weight of his conflict.

“If I let this get to me, it… might end badly for me. And if it does, I ain't gonna be able to keep my promises…! I can't let that happen! So I gotta… I gotta just forget it! Put this shit to the back of my mind and continue livin’ here as normal!”

Dejectedly, Mondo sighed.

“Why the fuck did that take me so long to deal with? The answer was fuckin’ obvious from the start! I can't believe I did all this over something as pathetic as a dream. Maybe I really am snapping… Keep it together, Mondo!”

Psyching himself up, Mondo punched his fists together twice.

“Right, that’s settled then. Good. Now I should be able to sleep without a problem. I gotta make sure I’m 100%.”

As Mondo left the bathhouse, a voice that made his blood boil with rage suddenly called out to him.

“I expected it from that guy, but you… this is a surprise!”

With a few cartoony squeaks, Monokuma, who had been leaning against the corner of the entry hall to the dorms, waddled his way over to the Ultimate Biker Gang Leader.

“So what were you doing in there all alone at this time of night? Have you been slacking on your hygiene but couldn't use the shower at night? Did you need to clear your head? Or maybe-” Monokuma held his nubs to his chest, his white half turning red as steam began to emit from his body. “- you went in there to clear your other head? Maybe you're the type to get more out of it from being in a public place, but didn't want to be seen while releasing your load?”

“You motherfucker…!” Mondo erupted, clenching his fists as he began to shake with rage. His face flushed red as the vein on his head began to throb. “Don't you dare make a mockery of me!!! I will fucking end you!!! What I did in there is none of your damned business!”

“Ooooooooooh, so scary~!” Monokuma responded in a mocking tone. “What’re ya gonna do, attack me again? This time I'll totally explode for real, without the build-up, and everyone will wake up tomorrow to little bits of Mondo spread all over the ceiling, floor and walls!”

“I ain't… gonna let that happen…” Mondo told mostly himself, trying desperately not to let his anger overflow. “I gotta survive. I got promises to keep.”

“Good, good, that’s the Mondo I know!” Monokuma cheered. “Well, don't let me take any more of your time! Get back to your dorm and sleep! If you get too tired and fall asleep out here, well that would just be plain bad! Can you imagine being punished for sleeping outside your dorms? What an embarrassing way for the big bad Ultimate Biker Gang Leader to go out!”

“I ain't gonna do what you tell me!” Mondo snapped back. “I was headin’ back there anyway!”

“Of course, whatever you say.” Monokuma smiled condescendingly. “Don't let me hold you!”

As Mondo begrudgingly trudged back to his room once more, Monokuma watched in fascination, keeping an eye on his every step.

And once Mondo was back in his room, Monokuma tilted his head in confusion.

“That was… weird. What was he doing up? I expected to run into Byakuya. But Mondo? A complete surprise!”

Suddenly, the intonation of his voice changed, as if letting down an act. His voice was more pensive, less energetic, and more calculating.

“Something completely unpredictable happened… and it was as insignificant as a night time bath. What a disappointment…”
