Work Text:
Taehyung is in the middle of biting into his toast when his doorbell rings.
“Kamjagiya!”
He jumps a little and nearly lets his breakfast slip from his hands. He curses under his breath and gathers the crumbs off the table and his trousers in rapid motions.
In his haste, he nearly knocks over his glass of orange juice.
The doorbell rings again.
“Yes, yes, I’m coming,” he mutters.
“It better be an emergency,” he adds louder and hurries toward the door.
His slippers drag lazily across the floor and while walking, he stretches his arms over his head. He yawns and his sleepy eyes catch the digital clock on the cabinet in his living room.
6 a.m.
Who on earth is awake this early?
It better not be a prank or some unhinged fan.
For a second, he considers shooting his security a text. Or pressing the emergency button next to the door to alert building security. Nah. He dismisses the idea with a wave of his hand and rubs his eyes.
He misses his bed already.
Taehyung presses the intercom.
“Hello?”
The screen of his security camera is blank. There’s no one standing outside his door.
He frowns and presses the button again.
“Who’s there?”
Then he notices movement in the corner of his left eye.
One of the three monitors shows a dark figure looking around the street. It’s the outdoor camera. It’s still dawn, which means Taehyung can’t make out much more than someone pacing back and forth, staring up to his window.
“What the—”
A little freaked out, he hastily grabs his phone off the dining table and returns to the intercom.
“Hello? Do you need help? Are you injured?” He pauses. “Do you want me to call an ambulance?”
No reply.
But from his wild gestures he can guess the mysterious man is trying to say something, but there’s no sound.
This building is new and very modern, but apparently the basic function of communication is not possible right now. Great.
Taehyung quickly unlocks his phone, looks up at the ceiling and thinks for two seconds before pulling up his chat with the one person he knows is already awake.
And who doesn’t sugarcoat the possible life-threatening situation he’s in.
Taehyung: Hyung, we have a problem. Are you awake?
Taehyung: I might be getting murdered.
Taehyung: Helloooo?
Yoongi: Why are we screaming at 6 a.m.?
Taehyung: Ahhhh Hyung, thank god.
Taehyung: 👋🏼
Yoongi: What is it?
Taehyung: Someone is at my door. They are standing outside the building. Dressed all in black. 🥷
Yoongi: Yes, and?
Taehyung: And??? Hyung, what should I do?
Yoongi: Ask who it is.
Taehyung: The damn cameras deliver the worst visuals and the sound quality is nonexistent.
Taehyung: I can neither recognize nor understand the guy.
Yoongi: Tae…who could it possibly be?
Taehyung: I don’t know. A sasaeng? A criminal? A journalist?
Yoongi: Or, I don’t know… a friend???
Taehyung: Who would come unannounced at 6 a.m.? My friends have manners, you know.
Taehyung: Besides, who would even know I’d be up at the crack of dawn today?
Yoongi: Maybe they got the wrong address.
Yoongi: Or are lost.
Yoongi: Trying to find someone who can lend them a map
Yoongi: 🗺️
Taehyung: Hyung, please. This is not helping at all. You’re just taking the piss.
Yoongi: Okay, but what do you want me to do?
Taehyung: I don’t know. I was hoping for some support or advice, but you’re not even taking me seriously.
Yoongi: Tae… do you want me to come over?
Taehyung: And have you hold that over my head for months to come?
Taehyung: No thanks. 🙂↔️
Yoongi: Okay. I’m sorry. But I genuinely don’t know what to say. I would ignore it and go back to bed.
Yoongi: It’s probably Jungkook anyway. Who knows what kink you two are into these days.
Taehyung: I am ignoring the second part…it can’t be Jungkook because he’s in Japan right now.
Taehyung: That man is a genius, but sadly not an identical-twin, nor a time-traveller. Yet.
Yoongi: Would that qualify as another possible kink? The twin thing?
Taehyung: Hyung, I’m ending this conversation. You’ve been zero help. At least it distracted me for a minute.
Taehyung: And turned me on a little.
Taehyung: ✍🏼
*Yoongi Hyung has blocked you.*
⸻
Taehyung chuckles and pockets his phone.
Yoongi really is too easy to rile up.
Now, back to the problem at hand.
He presses the intercom button again.
“Hello? I’m sorry, I can’t hear you. Do you hear me?”
The figure tilts his head.
“If you can hear me, can you give me a thumbs up? Please?”
The dark figure approaches the camera once more and nearly pokes the lens with his thumb.
“Okay,” Taehyung says, laughing despite himself. “I’m coming down now.”
With a sigh, he throws on a light jacket and unlocks his door.
This better be quick. He’s supposed to be picked up in less than an hour for his schedule.
⸻
It’s way colder than he anticipated.
A sharp breeze has him shivering as he pulls his hood over his head. Rounding the building, he heads toward the entrance of the parking garage.
The first thing Taehyung sees is the man’s back. The stranger is still speaking into one of the outdoor monitors while simultaneously checking his phone.
“Hello!”
Taehyung’s voice sounds much louder than he expected, disturbing the quiet magic of a peaceful Seoul morning.
Somewhere behind him, a cat meows in one of the bushes, probably annoyed by the commotion.
The stranger turns around so quickly, one hand pressed to his chest.
Taehyung must have startled not only the poor cat, but also this man.
“Good,” Taehyung mutters while approaching. “That makes two of us.”
The stranger then steps beneath the light of a nearby lamp post.
And Taehyung finally gets a proper look at him.
Black trousers.
Black shoes.
A black leather jacket.
A black baseball cap.
A black face mask.
The whole outfit makes him look like he’s about to rob a bank. At six in the morning, the whole thing is admittedly a little unsettling.
“It’s way too early for you to be ringing my doorbell dressed like…” Taehyung slows his steps, gesturing at the guy’s outfit.
“…like you are preparing for a heist.”
He hears the man snort.
“And I don’t want to be your accomplice, just so we are clear,” Taehyung takes another tentative step forward.
The stranger chuckles and shakes his head.
Then, for the first time, Taehyung hears him speak.
“Last time I checked, you said you would do anything for me. What happened to that?”
Taehyung freezes in his tracks.
He would recognize that voice anywhere.
You could wake him in the dead of night, play him a single syllable, and Taehyung would know exactly who it belongs to.
Confusion and relief wash over him.
To confirm what he already knows, the man finally lifts his head and looks directly at him.
Round, curious eyes meet his.
“Jungkookie?”
Taehyung quickly closes the remaining distance between them, coming to a stop right in front of Jungkook.
“What are you doing here? Aren’t you in Japan?”
His brain scrambles to comprehend what he is seeing.
“I just saw photos of you at the CK event. Like, literally hours ago.” Taehyung waves his hand in front of Jungkook’s face.
Jungkook laughs softly and places both hands on Taehyung’s shoulders.
“Okay. Deep breaths.”
His eyes dance with amusement.
“Jungkook-ah,” Taehyung repeats. “What is happening?”
“I took an earlier flight.”
Taehyung just stares at him.
“Did you teleport?”
Jungkook chuckles.
“No, Jagiya. I left the event as soon as possible and drove straight to the airport. I didn’t want to stay away another night if there was an option.”
“But Mingyu is there as well. And you love Tokyo.”
“I love you more.”
Jungkook flicks his chin, looking at him fondly.
Taehyung just blinks wordlessly at him.
“I wanted to surprise you. Judging by your reaction, I succeeded.”
Jungkook studies Taehyung, looking very pleased with himself.
Taehyung presses a hand on his chest, then playfully shoves the younger one’s shoulder.
“Jungkook-ah, I thought someone was here to kidnap me. I was this close to calling the police.”
“Well,” Jungkook says thoughtfully, “technically I did come here to kidnap you, so you weren’t entirely wrong.”
He winks, mischief written all over his face.
Taehyung decides to ignore that comment for the sake of his own sanity. He feels dizzy enough already.
“Let me get this straight,” Taehyung says slowly. “You left Tokyo earlier and showed up at my doorstep at sunrise.”
“Correct.” Jungkook nods and pats Taehyung’s shoulder.
“You missed me that much after being away for, what, a day? That you pull this romcom scene to surprise me?”
“Correct.” Jungkook’s lips twitch.
“You are insane.”
Taehyung’s expression softens, going from disbelief to realization.
“I feel like Julia Roberts.”
He looks in awe.
Jungkook throws his head back and laughs. The sound has Taehyung smiling widely, his chest feeling tight with emotion.
He reaches up, cups Jungkook’s face and presses a gentle kiss to one cheek.
Then the other.
“I can’t believe this,” he murmurs. “You really are so cool.”
Taehyung reaches up, takes off Jungkook’s cap and brushes the hair out of his eyes. He takes the opportunity to place one additional kiss in the middle of Jungkook’s now exposed forehead.
Jungkook closes his eyes and hums.
“Mmmm, this is nice.”
A pleased smile appears on his face.
“Jungkook-ah,” Taehyung says, holding both of his cheeks again, “what’s with the full leather outfit? Love the Calvin jacket, it looks great, but…”
His eyes drift down.
“Those trousers are a crime.”
Jungkook follows his gaze downward.
“Didn’t you just tell me I look like a criminal? I guess I dressed on theme then?”
Taehyung ignores him again and instead inspects those trousers up close.
“You are telling me you walked around Seoul in the middle of the night looking like THAT?”
“Yes.”
A slow smile spreads across Jungkook’s face.
“How has no one kidnapped YOU on the way over?”
Taehyung pokes Jungkook’s chest, then hooks his fingers in the front pockets.
“You are gorgeous.”
“And you are staring,” Jungkook counters.
“I am just enjoying the view. I haven’t had it for 24 hours, cut me some slack.”
Another laugh escapes Jungkook before he can stop it.
Taehyung reaches out and fixes the collar of his jacket.
For a moment, Jungkook simply looks at him. Then he catches Taehyung’s hand and kisses his wrist.
“You trust me, right?”
“Yes.” Taehyung doesn’t hesitate for a second.
Jungkook takes Taehyung’s hand in his, squeezing it.
“Good.”
“Good?”
“Mhmmm”, Jungkook nods. “Because I made plans for today. I told you I will kidnap you.”
He runs across the street toward something that is still hidden from Taehyung’s view.
Then Taehyung sees it. Delighted he claps his hands and skips over to Jungkook.
“You came with your new motorbike?? Oh my god, it looks stunning.”
Taehyung circles the bike, his eyes growing bigger.
“This is so cool!”
Jungkook watches his boyfriend fondly. Then he also claps into his hands.
“Now. Let’s go for a ride.”
Two helmets magically appear and Jungkook looks at him expectantly.
“A ride. Now?”
For a second time today, Taehyung stares at him.
“We are”, Jungkook motions for Taehyung to step closer. “driving to Busan to meet my family. It’s been so long and we won’t have a lot of time when we are there for the shows. Also they miss you and would probably be mad at me if I’d show up without you.”
Jungkook carefully places the helmet on Taehyung’s head and pushes a few strands of hair underneath it.
“And yes I know you have a schedule and you should be picked up like right now, BUT…”
Jungkook closes the helmet and makes sure it’s secured, before he opens a box to retrieve another leather jacket.
“Don’t worry, I spoke with management and the schedule is now postponed. It’ll happen next week, they will send you the details. Bottom line is: today you are free and we have a day off together. Turn around please.”
Taehyung can’t help but just look at him and follow his instructions. Jungkook helps him into the jacket and also hands him a pair of gloves.
“We will stop by my place real quick, so you can change your trousers and shoes into something safer, okay?”
Taehyung nods, a big smile is taking over his entire face. He beams at Jungkook.
“This is the best day ever.”
He swings his leg over the bike seat and settles behind Jungkook. He is hugging him, holding on tight.
“The new bike, you in this outfit, seeing your family, the ocean??? Are you kidding me? 10/10”
He tries to hide his grin on Jungkook’s shoulder but fails terribly.
“Yeah? Are you happy?”
“Very happy.” Taehyung nods rapidly.
He then squeezes Jungkook’s middle and adds more quietly: “I love you.”
Jungkook stills and after a few seconds turns around in his seat, facing Taehyung’s surprised face.
He slowly pulls the visor of Taehyung’s helmet up, leans forward and kisses him.
Taehyung sighs into it. Feeling encouraged, Jungkook grabs his shoulders and deepens the kiss, his tongue quietly asking for permission. Taehyung easily grants it and parts his lips.
After what feels like way too short for Taehyung’s liking, Jungkook reluctantly draws back, gives him one last peck on the lips and then closes his visor again.
“I could kiss you forever. But if we don’t stop, we will never make it to Busan. And I promised my mum we’ll be home for dinner.”
Taehyung sighs again and kisses Jungkook’s nape.
“Let’s go. Get me there safely, Jungkook-ah.”
Jungkook closes his own visor and starts the engine.
