Just for tonight

Work Text:

“Is it even worth it?”

Is the same question that runs through Suguru’s mind as he lays on roof of the dorms, staring up at the night sky, at the same time, every single night. Suguru understands that Jujutsu sorcerers must look out for the weak…but he can’t help but wonder, is any of this even worth it.
Is it really worth the bad taste in his mouth, and the sleepless nights. Are the curses they’re killing even making a difference in such a cruel world?

Suguru sits up, taking in one last breath of the fresh air, before calling it a night. Just as Suguru approaches his room, he sees a very familiar face, standing at his door. Suguru opens his door, pausing and taking a look at his watch as they step inside, “Satoru, are you okay? What are you doing at my door at this hour?”.

Satoru takes a seat at Suguru’s desk, shrugging as he speaks, “Just one of those nights where I don’t want to be alone.” Suguru closes the door, taking a seat on his bed, humming in acknowledgment, “I understand, would you like to talk about it?”. Suguru knew Satoru wasn’t really going to want to “talk about it”, he was waiting for him to make a joke, and say something along the lines of “Nah, don’t worry about me!”

Satoru stiffens up for just a second, clearing his throat before he speaks, “Actually… I was wondering if it’d be alright if I slept with you tonight?”. Although, he was taken aback, Suguru immediately flashes that same soft smile that he only ever reserved for Satoru, “Of cour-“. Before Suguru could even finish his sentence, Satoru was already making himself comfortable, lifting the covers signaling for Suguru to join him.

Suguru chuckles, sliding into bed, flashing Satoru a small smile before closing his eyes, and turning on his side. After only a couple minutes of silence, Suguru turns to face Satoru, speaking up, “Satoru? Is there something bothering you? I can feel you staring”. There’s a beat of silence before Satoru’s face seems to turn the faintest shade of pink. After what felt like an eternity, Satoru finally spoke up, “Can you hold me? Just for tonight…?”

Suguru’s eyes soften, immediately pulling Satoru close. Satoru lays his head on Suguru’s chest, “You know Suguru…even when I feel like the whole weight of the world is on my shoulders, it’s always been you that’s here to carry this burden with me.”

So in the end, Suguru is going to keep going. Even with the many sleepless nights and the dreadful thought that they are making no difference, Suguru is reminded that he has someone to share this burden with, even if it’s just for tonight.
