Work Text:

Perhaps you don’t die instantly.

The harsh bite of the bullet was aimed slightly off-centre, an uneven shot. You fall to the ground unceremoniously and the glassy floor below you blooms a bright red. If you could still feel anything beyond a mind-numbing chill, you’d feel irritated with the sticky mess seeping into your dress.

A heavenly being falls to her knees in front of you. You want to tell her to stop, the red will cling to her. She’d once confided to you, under the thin covers when she’d snuck into your bunk, your face flushed with the proximity, that she hated the feeling of blood. The way even the smell clawed into her very soul, carving a gaping hole in its’ wake. You remember holding your hand to her face and gently wiping her tears away, pressing a kiss to her warm forehead in comfort.

Ah. She was warm wasn’t she? You two used to lay on the grass together, your fragile fingers linked with hers. The cold glow of the artificial sun shone upon you and you crinkled your nose slightly at the harsh glare, you felt a twitch and refocused your attention to beside you. With your persistent chill, every point of contact with her felt like pressing your hands against a soft flame. She turned toward you and smiled so brightly that you felt your mouth curl upwards as well. Her pink hair was strewn between the two of you, melding softly into the grass. You closed your eyes blissfully. My heavenly garden…

You look up towards her now. Her eyes are blown wide and tears gather at the corners of her eyelids. She looks brittle, weak, now. You feel your brow furrow slightly. This is wrong, you think. You remember her as an unbreakable force, a divine being. Something holy, but-

This is your doing isn’t it?

He warned you about this, remember? You’ve gone ahead and proved him right, becoming a source of pain. So pathetic, your inability to love selflessly. Stumbling into her heart, you haven’t even the decency to live.

A familiar pain bursts from within your ribs and your fingers twitch minutely. You want to reach up to her, kiss her until she graces you with her warmth. You don’t deserve to, you’re the selfish bastard who caused this in the first place.

It gets harder to stay awake, and through the haze all you can think is-

I’m sorry.

Your eyes close. I’m so sorry, Mizi.
