Work Text:
I breathe life into my own shivering lungs,
the light of an angel circles behind my eyelids.
my stomach tumbles at the taste of the earth.
I shudder as my sight returns.
my head pounds like a fragile paperweight.
a thousand cruel and soft words punch at my lungs
like they want nothing more than to leave
I watch your eyes harden.
breath struggles in my throat.
My hands grasp at my misgivings, wanting, begging them
To retreat back into my lungs. My head shakes.
So does your fist.
