Enid doesn’t go anywhere without her plushed dragon.

The dragon was small, the size of her palm, shades of pink and blue with glitter covering it.

You could always find him in her jacket pocket or in her hand if she wasn’t outside, he sat on her bedside table.

He was her comfort object wherever she went; he followed her. It was common in autistic people, like Enid, to have a comfort object, but when this object went missing or was broken, Enid broke too.

There had only even been one instance where he had gone missing. her mum told her it was childish to carry around a dragon. Enid was in her teens, and everyone would bully her, she said.

Her mum has decided to take it into her own hands when Enid rejected the idea of getting rid of him and chucked him in the trash herself.

Enid had freaked out and searched the house frantically when she had the realisation that her mother had thrown him in the trash, she ripped through the trash just to get him safe in her hands again.

When Wednesday had first seen her with the dragon, she didn’t judge Enid; she just shrugged and said, “We all have our weird quirks.”

That day, Enid knew she liked Wednesday no matter what others said because she was like Enid, except Wednesday didn’t care what others thought.

Now, Enid was walking through Ophelia Hall, her dragon in her blazer pocket, where she safely knew he’d be safe.

Walking downstairs, she could see a group of older girls in front of her smoking cigarettes, which weren’t allowed in school, of course.

The girls looked like your typical high school mean girls with their hair straightened, heavy makeup, and a rich style.

Enid wasn’t always the rule follower herself, but smoking in school went too far and was extremely unsafe.

So of course, she went up to the girls and said something about the smoking.

“If you guys are going to smoke, I’m sure you can do it somewhere else like outside,” she said. “Some people have asthma.” She didn’t want anyone having an asthma attack and dying.

The older girls did nothing but stare at her.

Then they all looked at each other and burst out laughing.

Enid frowned. “I don’t find it very funny,” she knew she was getting herself into trouble.

One girl chuckled, obviously not taking Enid seriously. “Okay, Blondie, didn’t know you ran the school.” The rest laughed.

“I-I don’t. I’m just saying I don’t want anyone getting hurt,” she stuttered, twisting her fingers together.

“What’s this?” Enid looked up, confused, before realising the girl was now holding her dragon in her hand. She must’ve seen him hanging out of her pocket and grabbed it before Enid even batted an eye.

Enid gasped. “Give that back!” Going on her tippy toes to reach it.

The girl moved out of the way, stopping Enid from getting it. “You still keep plushies, Rainbow?” the second unoriginal nicknamed They’ve called her so far.

“Wonder what you’ll do if I do….” The girl took the dragon down to Enid’s face and pulled his neck, ripping it and ripping it till it was basically hanging off .

Tears welled up in Enid’s eyes as they slid down her cheeks.

“How could you do that!!” Enid screamed, lunging for her dragon.

She knew she probably looked childish to outsiders. They would say, “It’s just a toy dragon,” but it wasn’t just a toy dragon to her…

“Just give me it back!” she screamed. She was getting worked up badly. She was practically sobbing at this point, and if she didn’t regulate herself soon, this was going to end badly for Enid.

“Ohh, she’s upset,” the girl holding her dragon chucked it to the girl across from her.

When the other caught it, she went to throw it back. Just then, a hand caught her arm mid-throw.

“Ripping a stuffed toy is textbook bully behaviour. You couldn’t be more original?”

“Willa…” Enid whimpered.

Wednesday twisted the girl’s arm and ripped the dragon out of her hand.

His head was halfway off, but the rest of him was intact.

“I’m going to give you to the count of three to leave,” Wednesday stared them down.

They laughed at Wednesday not taking her words seriously. They didn’t find her threatening at all.

“One….” Wednesday counted.

“Two….”

“Three.” Suddenly, the girls bolted down the hall and disappeared out of their sights.

“Thanks, Wednesday,” Enid said through tears.

“You’re having a meltdown,” Wednesday observed.

Wednesday was one of the only people who knew about her autism. Of course, Yoko and Davina did as well. She had been comfortable enough to open up about it after Wednesday had also opened up about her autism

Enid gasped through her sobs. “I’m sorry,” she didn’t know what she was apologising for, just that she was overwhelmed.

“ill take you back to the dorm,” Wednesday said as she took Enid’s hand and led her down the hall

Public display of affection was never Wednesdays thing untill Enid…

they made their way into the dorm and sat on Enid’s bed

Enid was still sobbing. She started to rock back and forth harshly, holding her dragon that Wednesday had saved for her in her hands.

“They ruined him!” she gasped out as she stroked his fur

Wednesday comes to crouch in front of her, taking her dragon in her hands. “It can be stitched.”

Enid pouted. “How do you know?” she hiccuped. “What if he’s ruined forever!”

“Do you have a sewing box?” Wednesday asked, her big brown eyes looking into Enid’s. Enid could get lost in them sometimes.

“It’s in my drawer,” Wednesday walked to her bedside drawer and opened it, rummaging around till she brought out the pink sewing box filled with needles and threads.

“i’ll fix this while you take a nap,” Wednesday took the blanket from Enid’s bed and wrapped it around her, making her nice and cosy.

“I can’t ask you to do that, Wends….” Enid said, fidgeting with the end of the blanket.

“Well, I’m going to do it anyways,” Wednesday was never one to be persuaded when she got something in her head. There’s no changing it.

“Okay…” Enid sighed. She was feeling sleepy already. The crying took everything out of her

she lay down against her pillows and dozed off.

When she woke up next, the sun was setting on Nevermore Academy, and Wednesday was now lying beside her. Enid was curled into her chest

she jumped up, hoping it wouldn’t wake Wednesday.

Wednesday stirred then and locked eyes with Enid. “You’re awake…” she said.

“Yeah…” Enid replied, flapping her hands to get the tension out of her body.

“I fixed your dragon.”

“You did?” Enid jumped up excitedly

Wednesday walked over to her desk and retrieved Enid’s dragon, bringing it back over to her

Enid inspected the dragon

There was an obvious stitch where Wednesday had used the hot pink thread. Enid blushed at that, knowing how Wednesday hated colours but did it for enid

eveything else was perfectly intact, just like how it should be.

“I apologise if it looks a little different. The rip was too big to make it unnoticeable.” Wednesday surprisingly looked nervous at what enid’s reaction would be.

“No… it’s perfect. Thank you.” Enid let out a happy sigh, then jumped up on her knees to reach Wednesday’s cheek to place a kiss there

Enid saw the blush creep its way up Wednesday’s pale face.

Seeing the raven blush was the cutest thing ever.

“Uh… w-what was that?” Wednesday stuttered. Seeing Wednesday flustered was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and Enid was glad she had caused this heartwarming reaction.

“I like you.” Enid said. She had been waiting to say those exact words for months.

“I need to use the bathroom.” Wednesday ran to the bathroom and slammed the door.

Before bursting the door open again, just to say, “I find you.. tolerable”

Enid chuckled. She knew that reaction wasn’t rejection. Wednesday just needed time to process, and Enid had had her suspicions of the other girl sharing her feelings for a while.
