Chapter Text

He was laying on the grass, relaxing underneath a tree as he watched the doves fly past. The breeze blew through his feathers, sending a shiver down his spine. While he was relaxing, he heard a small whisper carried in the wind. He groaned, knowing he was being called back. His wings stretched before he took flight, collecting a dove when he flew past a flock. The dove constantly acted up to get out of his grip, so he hid it inside his robe.

Once he arrived at the gates, his wings folded against his back. He walked into the kingdom, making sure the dove didn’t move too much. “Samael.” A deep voice came from behind, turning his head to look at who called him. “Hi…dad…” “Do you have another dove in your robe?” Samael looked away nervously, the dove fluttering under the silk. “What did I say about bringing back animals from Earth?” “‘Leave Earth life alone unless necessary to intervene.’” He grumbled as his father forced him to give back the dove.

“I just wanted one for once. The others have pets, but not me.” “Sam, you aren’t responsible for one, yet. The others have shown that they can handle their duties and a pet.” Samael looked down as he crossed his arms over his chest, “whatever…” he muttered under his breath. “Now, go to your quarters.” His father transported the dove back to Earth and flew off, leaving Samael alone. Surely he could go back to Earth for a bit without getting caught…No, Michael would be watching him once father told everyone about the dove. He groaned, flying to his quarters and taking off his hate, running his fingers through his hair. Throwing himself onto his bed, he grabbed the soft silks before sleeping, cuddling himself.

Samael flew down into the garden, managing to sneak out when his brothers were called for a meeting. It had been days since he was able to leave Heaven, his father ordering his brothers to guard him due to the dove incident. He made his way to the apple tree. His father had warned all the angels not to give the apple to the humans as they held forbidden knowledge to the life forms. Samael never knew why they shouldn’t share the knowledge with the humans. He always thought they should have the knowledge, that they could be creative with what they knew.

“Samael!” He heard a familiar voice call him from below. He landed and was met with his love: Lilith. She was the first woman alongside the first man, Adam, but she left him to be free. “Hi, Lilith.” Samael got flustered while looking at her, the woman only being covered by her long hair. “Did you want anything?” “No, I just saw you flying and wanted to say hi. But since you mentioned it, I called Eve over before you arrived.” Samael tilted his head, “Why? Do you have to talk with her?” Samael wondered why Lilith would want to talk to her replacement, but as far as he knew, neither were on bad terms with each other, or Adam.

“I wanted to talk to her about what you told me. About the fruit from the forbidden tree.” “I told you that in secret, Lilith. You’re lucky none of my brothers or father found out.” Lilith let out a chuckle, Samael’s heart fluttering in his chest. “Do…do you want me to give her the fruit?” “You want the three of us to have ‘forbidden’ knowledge to be creative and have parties like you imagined, right?” Lilith used her sweet voice on Samael, the angel getting more flustered. “…I guess I could…give Eve an apple.” He looked away as Lilith smiled, gaining a peck on his cheek. “I knew you’d agree with me. Now we just have to wait for Eve to show up.”

Samael looked up as he heard Eve finally arriving at the tree. She was pretty, but he wouldn’t admit that with Lilith next to him. “You wanted me, Lilith? Adam said he’d come with, but he’s busy trying to catch a fish.” “That’s alright, Eve. I wanted you to try the fruit from the tree.” Eve looked at Lilith with shock. “But we were told not to. We’d be sent out if we did.” “But wouldn’t you like to know about things you never knew? If we eat the fruit, we could gain knowledge that could benefit our lives.” Samael watched as Eve was considering Lilith’s words. Lilith was very persuasive, seeing as she managed to get him to agree to what she wanted whenever he visited. “..Alright. I’ll take a bite.” Lilith grinned as Eve agreed, having Samael grab an apple from the tree. Samael gave the apple to Eve, but looked past her once he heard Adam running to them. He floated towards the first man as Lilith stayed with Eve. “Hi, Adam!” “Hi. What are you three doing?” Adam tilted his head as he looked at Samael and then the girls. “Lilith wanted you guys to eat an apple from the tree so you all could benefit from the knowledge gained.” “But we all know not to eat from the tree. It’s forbidden for a reason.” Samael sunk into himself at Adam’s answer, knowing that he would want to follow his father’s orders.

“But Adam, you’d be left behind if you don’t eat. Lilith and Eve have already taken from the tree. Don’t you want to be equal to them?” Samael knew he hit something within Adam, using his need to be together to convince the first man. “Fine. But I’m only doing it because of you. Remember that.” “I will, don’t worry.” Samael pulled Adam towards the girls, the brunette grumbling at the action. Once they reached the tree, Eve had already taken a bite of the apple, handing the apple for Adam to take. Adam took the fruit from his wife, “I’m blaming you for whatever happens, Samael.” The angel looked at the brunette with a grin, causing Adam to look away. He examined the apple for a bit, debating if he should still take a bite, until he chose to continue. He moved the apple to his lips, taking a bite as the others watched. Samael, despite his gut feeling, couldn’t help being happy that he finally got his goal of sharing knowledge with the humans.

Suddenly, Adam moved his hand to his throat, coughing as the piece of apple got stuck in his throat. The sky was covered by dark clouds, lightning flashing in the blackened sky. Eve went to her husband to make sure he was okay while Kilith jumped off the tree to Samael. The wind started picking up, Samael forced to cover him and Lilith with his wings. “SAMAEL!” A booming voice came from the clouds, a glowing figure flying down to the four. Samael shrunk away, hiding behind Lilith in fear. The glowing figure lost their shine, revealing themselves as God. He stood between Samael and Lilith, and Adam and Eve. “You were told to not interfere or meddle with the humans.” God spoke with a thunderous voice, lightning shining the hills behind him. When God saw one of his ‘sons’ hiding behind Lilith, his gaze softened for a second before returning back to anger. “The court will deal with you two later.” He used his powers to teleport Samael and Lilith to heaven, turning his attention to his creations.

Samael sat in his cell, his wings laying limp on the floor. He perked up when he heard the cell door open, one of his brothers walking in. “You shouldn’t have gone to Earth, Samael.” “I don’t want to hear it, Michael.” He turned his gaze to his brother, seeing the emptiness in the other angel’s eyes. “The court wishes to trial you today. I’ve been sent to collect you.” Samael let out a growl, annoyance at the court. Michael walked up to him, grabbing Samael’s upper arm and dragging him out of his cell. “I can walk by myself!” “Then stop moping around.” Michael let go of his arm, but stayed close to make sure he didn’t try to escape.

They walked in silence until they arrived at the court, Michael flying to his seat underneath their father. Samael stood in the middle, wrapping his arms around Lilith, who had been given cloth to cover her up. “You two have been witnessed giving the forbidden fruit to the humans. This is unforgivable and requires punishment.” Samael paid no attention to the court members voicing their anger towards the two, making sure Lilith was okay. “Samael Morningstar, you have been accused of sharing forbidden information to a human and allowing Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, disobeying orders given to you when they were first created. How do you plead?” “I did what was right. Even if I didn’t give Eve the apple, they would’ve eaten the fruit sooner or later. You never allowed my ideas, even now you disapprove.” The court glared at Samael, hearing his response.

God rose from his seat at the top of the room, “Then by the power of the court, you, Samael Morningstar and Lilith, shall be banished to the pits of evil you have created. You shall suffer in the pain and will never be able to harm those that enter the realm from your darkness.” The rest of the court rose, using their powers to open a portal underneath the two. Samael tried flying away, but Michael threw his spear into one of his wings, his eyes filled with nothing but rage. As they fell, Samael wrapped himself around Lilith, protecting her when they eventually landed. “You are no son of mine. May you rot in what you have created.” Samael heard his father as he saw the fading court room, the portal closing as tears filled his eyes.

The two continued to fall through the emptiness, finally crashing into the ground, breaking more of Samael’s wings. He couldn’t care about the pain from his wings, he only cared that Lilith was okay. But he couldn’t help the ache in his chest from God’s words as he fell, tears trickling down his cheeks.
