The Burden We Share

Summary:

After another failed escape attempt, Wemmbu was captured. Again.

Left to his own device in a dark cell to anticipate his punishment, thinking that he is to stay in solitary confinement till his excecution date.

Oh, how terribly wrong his assumptions would prove to be.

Chapter Text

Everyone had managed to escape, except for Wemmbu and Lomedy.

Spoke had infiltrated the prison multiple times in pursuit of bailing Wemmbu out in an exchange for a favour. However, Wemmbu continued to refuse his proposal. Why would he willingly place himself in a situation indebt to others? He hated when others have leverage over him, it has always ended the same way, being used as a weapon of destruction for something he had no wants to be part of.

Moreover, who is to say that he couldn’t escape by himself?

His previous attempt was so close to a success, the taste of freedom was at the tip of his tongue.

However, he was running out of time. He had roughly around a week left before his execution date. To make matters worst, he was stuck in solitary confinement along with his unexpected allies. Unable to plan another escape route, as they did not have the freedom of doing chores for the Law. Plus, security is tighter here, having been warned by the great Lettuce himself, that there were ears within the walls, listening to every conversation.

Wemmbu couldn’t help but feel dejected.

Suddenly the lights began to flicker before dying out completely, plunging the entire holding cells and corridor into darkness.

Fantst shrieked in shock.

“Shut up!” Baablu and Zam hissed at the same time.

Wemmbu, lost in his thoughts, didn’t even bother raising his head. After all, he knew who the intruder was. Always flashy and dramatic with his entrance. It doesn’t take a genius to put two and two together.

Spoke had came for him again.

Speaking of the devil, a void-like appearance began materializing infront of him, squatting down to meet his eyes.

Spoke poked at Wemmbu, “Sooooooo, have you made up your mind? The clock is ticking ya’know.”

He hates to admit it but Spoke was right. This was his last window of opportunity.

From across the corridor, Zam gave her best attempt of a puppy eye, looking at Wemmbu with fake tears gathering in her eyes.

“Fine.. but you’re bailing out everyone in this prison as well,” Wemmbu muttered.

Spoke grinned like a cheshire cat. “Great! Everyone follow me!” Spoke exclaimed excitedly, placing down TNTs near the door before lighting them up.

Thats smart, Wemmbu mused. The prison is heavily armed with guardians after all, inflicting mining fatigue on both prisoners and guards alike– no exceptions given.

“Yo, spoke can we get an ender chest?” Wemmbu called out.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah.”

Spoke placed an ender chest down. Everyone immediately crowded over it, digging for their belongings.

Zam wailed, “Oh how I’ve missed you.” Clutching her beloved trident to her chest.

While everyone was gearing up, Spoke explained their game plan, to wipe out the entire law force stationed in this law base. Some tilted their head in confusion while the rest raised their eyebrows, sending a questionable look at Spoke.

“Um, why not sneak out quietly instead?”Baablu questioned.

Spoke giggled, “That’s boring, let’s go out with a bang!”

Without waiting for their retort, Spoke ran off, presumably towards the entrance to the surface. Blowing up doors after doors, walls after walls. The rest of the group, hot on his tail.

Spoke felt invincible!

Until he noticed a group of lawmen heading towards them at a high speed. He skidded to a halt at the T-junction, Fantst bumped into him, cussing him out, “Can you walk properly like a normal human being!’’

“GUYS RUNNNNNNNNNNNN,” Spoke shrieked and ran in the opposite direction of where the lawmen were coming from.

The people in his temporary alliance weren’t the best at combat, preferring to rely on cheap tricks to defend themselves for an opening. With Zam as the only exception. Having grown up into royalty, she was required to take combat lessons to learn how to defend herself.

If he could distract the guards from giving a chase, they would have a higher chance of escaping.

In any other random day, Wemmbu would not hesistate to betray, choosing to save himself instead. However, Wemmbu recalled Lomedy, Flame's best friend, was still being held at the communal holding cell. The farmer had stubbornly refused to participate in their previous escapade, lashing out them. Lomedy was adament on finishing his sentence like a normal prisoner.

Wemmbu obviously thought that was stupid. Who in their right mind would sit in a cell staring at the wall and doing pointless chores like looking for gold in a y-axis that has absolutely 0% of spawning gold. For 2 whole weeks, a thousand and eight minecraft day cycles to be exact. Eugh.

Moreover, Lomedy looked like a deer caught in headlight most of the time, what possible crimes could he have committed to be placed in a high security prison alongside high-profiled criminals. This whole situation is absurd. Like look at him, flowers clearly bloom wherever he goes.

However, there was a slight issue. Lomedy doesn’t like Wemmbu. Why you may ask? He thinks that Wemmbu was exactly like Flame, finding joy in massacring innocent players. So how is he going to convince the farmer to leave with him?

Wemmbu would argue that most of his actions were done out of self-defense. He did not actively seek out the one thousand players that attacked him and Flame! They walked right to their door step begging for their deaths. He would be stupid if he were to allow himself to be captured. Lettuce is delusional for trying to enforce the law in an Anarchy server.

Having said that, it was still worth a shot. One last chance to convince Lomedy to leave with him, he was Flame’s best friend anyways, maybe he could use it as leverage over Flame in their next bicker. If Egg was in Lomedy’s shoe, Wemmbu would want someone to convince him to escape as well.

With his mind made up, Wemmbu pulled Crucible out of his inventory, the weight heavy but not unfamiliar. It has been a while since he had the opportunity to use his maces again. He shifted his stance to something more combat efficient before lunging towards the guards.

Wemmbu was thin but lean. What he lacks in muscle mass, he makes up for in speed. Leaving his opponent with no time to predict his next move, Wemmbu weaved in and out of the group, breach swapping a poor guy that wasn’t paying attention to his surroundings. The lawmen dropped, one by one, until the loots scattered on the ground were the only proof of their existence.

Wemmbu wiped the blood off his cheeks nonchalantly, before trudging towards the main holding cells, a single goal in mind.

When he arrived at the entrance of the cell blocks, Wemmbu was shocked to say the least.

Flame, in all his glory, was fighting a 1v50, running laps around the block to make space for his TNT cart to no avail.

Wemmbu turned to look around, all the cells have been vacated except for Lomedy’s. He could make out a figure with their back turned away from the chaos happening in the middle.

Geez what happened between the two of them.

Making eye contact with where Flame’s eyes would presumably be at, Wemmbu gave a nod, a silent agreement was made between them to switch places.

The ceiling here is high enough to begin macing with Gambit. However, Wemmbu wanted to give the two privacy.

With that, Wemmbu unfurled his wings and flew away hopefully in the opposite direction of where Spoke and the rest were at, with most of the guards hot on his pursuit.

If there were any outliers that remained in the previous room then eh.. Flame could handle them.

Wemmbu managed to lead them to the cafeteria, although packed with fifty people in the room with him, it had a dome-like ceiling, providing enough space to begin elytra macing.

Wemmbu was lost in his bloodthirsty frenzy, cackling while slamming Gambit down onto the guard’s head, ending their misery, before swooping upwards and repeating the same action.

Unbeknownst to him, in the crowd of guards chasing him, was a commander, armed with a lethal weapon. Raising his crossbow steadily, aligning the crosshair onto his target.

And then he pulled the trigger.

The arrow, laced with a tranquilizing agent, sliced through the air and whizzed towards Wemmbu, burying itself into the flesh of his thighs.

Wemmbu’s eyes widen, switching his target and focusing on Deputy Ace. Rookie mistake, he should of dealt with Lettuce’s higher ranked goons first earlier.

Deputy Ace continued to dodge past Wemmbu’s attack, which was getting sloppier. Good, the tranquilizer had begun to take hold in his system.

Wemmbu panicked, he assumed the arrow was tipped with slow falling but as time went on, his hearing began to fade, replaced with a static that messes with his balance, sending him barrelling towards the ground. Slamming into the floor, scrambling to get up.

He was quickly losing his sight too, darkness surrounding the edge of his vision. He’s going to get sent back to solitary confinement if he keeps this up.

No.. he needs to escape.

Wemmbu turned and tried to crawl away.

Someone jumped and pinned him to the ground, slamming Wemmbu’s head into the cement floor.

Great.

He has a concussion too now.

Wemmbu struggled weakly before eventually succumbing to his ailment.

After Wemmbu left with a trail of lawmen chasing after him. Flame made a beeline towards Lomedy’s cell.

Flame removed his helmet to scan Lomedy’s body without the visor getting in the way before nodding to himself, satisfied that Lomedy did not nurse any injuries that required immediate aid.

“Loooomedy, time to go now, come on,” Flame dragged the ‘o’ in Lomedy’s name.

Lomedy retorted, “Are you crazy? I’m not breaking the law. I’m staying right here until my sentence is over.

“Lomedy bro please, let’s just go we can talk later,” Flame pleaded.

“Why on earth should I trust you at all? You STOLE my mace, got my FARM destroyed, and you just keep fighting the law instead of just admitting that you were in the wrong,” Lomedy snapped back and was met with silence.

Lomedy muttered, “I’m not going with somebody who refuses to see the other side of things.”

What the hell? None of what Lomedy said was true. Flame listened to Lettuce’s worldwide announcement about exiling Flame and obeyed! He left their territory, but instead of peace and tranquility, a manhunt for him had begun. He did what he could, anything else was out of his jurisdiction. It was done in self-defense.

Flame just sighed, he will explain later, first, they need to get away from the Law’s headquarter before more guards pull up, “C’mon, Lomedy let’s just go, there’s no point.”

TheGodOfWar, hidden behind the rubbles of collapsed support beams, probably caused by Spoke, silently loaded his tranquilizing dart.

“No! Listen to me, I just can’t trust you bro, I really can’t,” Lomedy said in frustration.

Flame spluttered, “You can’t trust me when I went all the way out here just to help you bro?”

Peeking out of his hiding hole, TheGodOfWar looked around, calculating the weakest point in Flame’s posture, before deciding to point his crossbow in the junction right between his collarbone and neck, exposed from removing his helmet beforehand.

“Why should I? You’re not going to change, why should I trust someone whose not willing to change- Flame, watch out!” Lomedy cried out a moment too late, the arrow had already been fired.

Hitting the bullseye.

Flame’s mouth opened and closed, like a fish out of water, with no sound coming out before collapsing onto his knees. The tranquilizing agent was pumping through his system quickly as the dart found a home close to his heart. The last thing he could remember was Lomedy’s arm grabbing him before he could face plant into the ground.

Notes:

So... how was it? Currently just building the plot at the moment, yada yada yada

I'll be taking my sweet time writing this fic so it fits my standard unlike my other fic which was heavily rushed. But fear not! I should be able to finish by the end of this month.

Not quite sure how many chapters I will have by the time I'm done so I'll just leave it at 10 for now.. heavy angst and smut would be in the next chapter, glup.
