The Antic Master's Challenge

Summary:

Following the hard-won liberation of Mobius from the Führer’s interdimensional invasion force, Shadow the Hedgehog remains fiercely restless. While Sonic and Tails celebrate their victory, Shadow’s deep-dive into the Black Hurricane encrypted data logs uncovers a lingering tactical threat: a recurring anomaly present in the background of every major skirmish, manipulating reality through sheer, unadulterated nonsense.
His name is Hermann Fegelein—the infamous Antic Master. Tracking a residual energy signature through a damaged spatial rift, Shadow deploys into the bleak, ruined streets of Berlin to eliminate this loose thread. But when heavy firearms, precise Chaos Spears, and apocalyptic Chaos Blasts are countered by floating champagne bottles, spring-loaded resurrections, and "KICK ME" signs, the Ultimate Lifeform confronts an unsettling truth: some enemies cannot be broken by force, because they treat the universe itself as one giant punchline.

Work Text:

After the dust settled on Mobius following the defeat of Hitler’s interdimensional invasion, the planet enjoyed a brief, uneasy peace. However, Shadow the Hedgehog remained restless. While Sonic and Tails celebrated their victory over the Führer, Shadow had been reviewing the encrypted data logs from the Black Hurricane. There, he found a recurring anomaly—a figure who appeared in the background of every major skirmish, never fighting, yet always causing inexplicable chaos.

His name was Hermann Fegelein.

Shadow’s motive was clear: this "Antic Master" was a loose thread that could unravel the security of Mobius. Fegelein's antics weren't just jokes; they were reality-bending disruptions. Shadow tracked a residual energy signature to a hidden portal in the Forbidden Zone—a gateway left behind by Hitler’s failed campaign. Using a Chaos Emerald to stabilize the rift, Shadow leaped through, hurtling across dimensions until he slammed into the concrete of a desolate Earth.

Shadow arrived in the ruins of Berlin, his eyes scanning for any sign of the elusive SS officer. He knew Fegelein was "undetectable" by conventional means, so he decided to draw him out.

Shadow set up a massive pile of "antique" German medals and a bottle of expensive champagne in the middle of the Tiergarten. He hid in the shadows, fingers twitching over his submachine gun. Suddenly, the champagne bottle began to float. Shadow fired. The bottle shattered, and a faint, mocking laughter echoed through the trees. When Shadow rushed the spot, all he found was a crude drawing of a middle finger on a post-it note.

“Where’s that DAMN Fegel-Menace?!” Shadow roared, his voice echoing off the bombed-out buildings.

Shadow spotted a blur of grey and green darting through the Brandenburg Gate on a unicycle. He activated his Hover Shoes, tearing through the streets at Mach speeds. He was inches away from grabbing Fegelein’s collar when the unicycle suddenly turned into a giant bratwurst. Shadow slipped, tumbling into a fountain, while the bratwurst—with Fegelein’s face—floated away into the sky, whistling a jaunty tune.

Shadow finally cornered a figure in a bunker who looked exactly like the Antic Master. Without hesitation, Shadow jumped into the air. "Chaos... BLAST!" The resulting explosion leveled the room. As the smoke cleared, Fegelein was lying on the floor, seemingly dead. Shadow sighed in relief, but within three seconds, the body began to vibrate. Fegelein popped back up like a spring, dusted off his uniform, and slapped a "KICK ME" sign on Shadow’s back before vanishing into thin air.

Shadow realized the terrifying truth: Fegelein was truly immortal. No matter how many times Shadow used Chaos Control or heavy weaponry, Fegelein would simply reset.

In one final encounter atop the ruins of the Reichstag, Shadow managed to pin Fegelein to a wall with a Chaos Spear.

"Tell me your plan!" Shadow demanded.

Fegelein simply looked at him, winked, and said, "It's all just one big antic, Shaddy-boy."

Fegelein then spontaneously combusted, only to reappear behind Shadow, pulling the Hedgehog’s quills like they were bicycle bells. Shadow realized that as long as there was a reality to prank, the Fegel-Menace would exist. Disgruntled and defeated by the sheer absurdity of his foe, Shadow used his last bit of Chaos energy to warp back to Mobius, deciding that some threats were better left ignored than hunted.

As Shadow left, the faint sound of "FEGELEIN! FEGELEIN! FEGELEIN!" echoed through the empty streets of Earth, marking the eternal reign of the Antic Master.
