My Ex is Mr. Superstar

Summary:

Kiyoomi Sakusa is a famous superstar chasing his dreams with every new song he releases. After four years with no contact, he gets a call from his ex that stirred something inside of him. Kiyoomi Sakusa returns with one goal in mind: to get Keiji Akaashi back.

Keiji Akaashi is not fond of Kiyoomi Sakusa's attempts at getting back together, all he wants to do is move on and be happy, but everything he does brings him back against his will. One thing he knows for sure though, he hated how Sakusa made him feel when they were together, and he won't let that go.

As Sakusa keeps calling for his attention, another man is getting dangerously close to Akaashi.

Chapter Text

And there they go playing that stupid song again. He can’t say how many times he’s heard that song play. Whether in the car on the radio, in a grocery store, or just casually minding his business at work.

It’s not that the song was terrible. It had a catchy melody and it was upbeat enough to make you cheery. However, the song just so happened to be sung by his ex.

Kiyoomi Sakusa.

“Akaashi!”

Akaashi looked up at one of his female coworkers. She smiled sweetly, “Hurry and finish up. The meeting is going to start soon.”

He hummed in response as he threw the rest of his yogurt away. Before heading to the meeting room, he walked to his desk to gather his materials. They usually have one every week to discuss ideas.

Akaashi began to take notes as the meeting began not long after he situated himself. They went over the main focus points and new goals they wanted to meet. Even going as far as to show visual charts and graphs of their progress.

“Now, this meeting is a little different than our usual meetings. Instead of some of our normal issues, we’ll be conducting an interview with someone who’s at the top charts right now. Kiyoomi Sakusa.”

A few people gasped as others looked puzzled. One asked, “He agreed to an interview?”

Akaashi’s boss scrunched his face as he continued, “Not exactly. This meeting was called to inform you all that we’re looking for candidates for the new management position. The catch is, you have to get that interview with Kiyoomi Sakusa. If you’re able to manage that the position is yours. Getting this interview is crucial and could bring us big sales.”

After a few more words the meeting finally came to an end. Akaashi was stunned. He’s wanted that position for over a year now and the only thing that’s stopping him is his ex. He sighed as he rested against the palms of his hands. Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be.

The week slowly went by with everyone racing against the clock trying to score that position. He had to hear some of his coworkers complain about their rejection over and over. He debated calling and seeing if he could get the interview but he thought against it. Tomorrow was the deadline anyway. Besides, he would probably also receive a rejection letter. They didn’t exactly end on great terms so why would he even say yes?

That night Akaashi couldn’t get a wink of sleep. He sat up the whole night thinking about his options. Tomorrow morning was the meeting and the deadline for the job he wanted. What’s the worst that they could say? No?

That morning, Akaashi rushed to clock in and head to his desk. He quickly looked up the email address for the company he was under when it dawned on him. He doesn’t know when they’ll read his email let alone respond to him. He waited until the last minute. He bit at his nails before glancing at his phone.

An idea suddenly struck.

He quickly picked up the phone and called a close friend of his.

“Keiji! I haven’t heard from you in like two days! What’s up?”

“Bo, I need a favor,” Akaashi asked, “And I’m in a rush.”

“What do you need?”

“Could you possibly send me Sakusa’s number?”

There was silence for a few minutes before the other line spoke, “You know I don’t have that Keiji.”

“I didn’t think so but I have a good feeling that a friend of yours does. Could you please ask? It’s really important and I need it as soon as possible,” Akaashi looked down at his nails and inspected them.

He was starting to feel extremely nervous.

Fine, I’ll see what I can do. I’ll call you back later? Practice starts soon,” Bokuto huffed.

Akaashi smiled, “Thank you Bo and of course.”

The line went dead after that. Keiji quickly got to work on his computer. Finishing some work that he needed when his phone vibrated.

There it was.

That random assembly of ten digits made him feel nauseous. He was really doing this. The longer he looked at it the more he knew he wasn’t going to do it. He straightened up his back and quickly clicked the call button. The first ring sent him into a state of panic.

It rang twice before someone finally picked up.

“Hello?”

Akaashi was so worried about calling his ex that he didn’t actually think about what he would do when he answered. That sudden rush of emotion that washed over him just from hearing his voice. The way he became speechless before the conversation had even started. The way his hands felt clammy the way they used to when he was around him.

Quickly shaking his thoughts away, “Hello? Hi? Yes! Hi!”

What is wrong with him?

Akaashi mentally face palmed.

“Um… Akaashi?”

Even the way he said his name.

“Kiyo- Sakusa, Hi, um… I’m sorry is this a bad time?” he stuttered.

It was quiet for a few brief seconds before the raspy voice on the other end spoke up, “No, I just finished a photo shoot. Did you need something?”

“Keiji, the meeting is starting. Hurry so you’re not late,” One of Akaashi’s colleagues informed.

Akaashi hummed as he turned his attention back to the phone call.

“You allowed them to call you Keiji?”

Akaashi cleared his throat, “Sorry, I’ll get right to the point. I would like to schedule an interview with you. More exactly, my company would.”

A scoff came from the other end, “You called for an interview?”

“It was last minute,” Akaashi whispered somewhat ashamed.

Sakusa questioned, “And why should I?”

Akaashi looked around as he tried to come up with a reason, “Because…” He really didn’t have any reason to do this on his behalf.

“Because you owe me,” Akaashi stuttered.

“I owe you?”

“Look, I’ve just been offered the position I’ve wanted for over a year now, and the only thing holding me back right now is you. You’re right, you don’t have any reason to do this for me or even listen to me speak right now but if you could just spare like ten minutes of your time I promise they’ll be quick,” Akaashi explained.

Akaashi started to fiddle with his hands as he waited for his answer.

Another one of his coworkers called him over again. Akaashi waved them away as he waited anxiously.

“On one condition.”

Akaashi gasped, “Anything! What is it?!”

“I want you in the room while I’m being interviewed.”

Akaashi’s breath caught in his throat.

“Is that okay with you?” Sakusa asked.

Akaashi didn’t say another word other than the hum that he forced from his throat.

“Good. Then get your pen ready.”

Akaashi did so as he wrote down the information Sakusa was telling him.

“I'll head over to your work so get something set up.”

Akaashi stood up, “Wait, today?”

“Yes, I know that this will eat you alive until the actual day so might as well get it over with,” Sakusa chuckled. Akaashi didn’t say anything as Sakusa continued, “I’m gonna start getting ready then. I’ll see you soon.”

‘I’ll see you soon’

Those words echoed through his head even after the phone call ended.

This was actually happening.
