Work Text:

Dean Di Laurentis skated back and forth on the ice to loosen his legs up. It had been a while since he'd been out there and the itch was starting to bug him. He slowly went faster and faster, feeling the adrenaline going through him as his body loosened and he was able to go more full out. A grin came unbidden to his face and he leaned more forward, trying to gain more speed.

"Dee!" A small voice called out, stopping him in his tracks. He looked over to the side of the rink and the grin that had been on his face turned into a full blown huge smile as he saw GiGi standing there, a bright smile on her tiny little face. She wore a long sleeved maroon shirt under a pair of overalls that were also, somehow, a skirt, and a pair of white pants with red flowers all over them with a pair of bunny shoes.

Dean skated over quickly and bent down in front of her. "Geeg!" He said, just as enthusiastically. "Hey, dollface. Do you wanna skate?"

"Uh huh...ice." She pointed out to it.

"Of course you do. Hey, look what I got. Just don't tell your mama." Dean picked her up and carefully walked over to where he'd dropped his bag. He sat her down on the bench beside him and he rummaged through his bag until he took out a tiny little pair of starter skates. Hannah had promised Garrett to within an inch of his life he'd never get GiGi a pair of skates until she at least started school, but Dean had never made such a promise, so he didn't care.

As Dean was bent down putting the skates on, GiGi tapped on his back, mumbling 'bah bah bah bah bah' to herself and it made Dean giggle quietly to himself.

Standing back up, Dean picked her up and took her to the edge of the ice.

"Ok, GiGi girl. We're going to skate. Are you ready?" He asked.

"Uh huh!" She exclaimed, beaming.

"Let's hope I can just outrun your mama." Dean put her down on the ice, holding her hand in his. "Ok...you have to glide, babydoll, ok? Don't try and step."

"No step." GiGi repeated.

"Exactly." Dean said, He eased out on the ice with her and she wobbled a bit, grabbing onto his hand tighter as she tried to keep her balance. "It's ok, Dee's got you. You're not gonna fall." He promised, smiling down at her. "Just keep moving with me, see, you got it!"

GiGi smiled up at him again, looking a little more relaxed as she skated around (even though Dean was absolutely doing most of the work, and his back was going to be killing him the next day with how he was bent over, engaging basically his entire lower body in order to keep them skating around easily).

"I skatin'!" She exclaimed.

"You are! You are doing so good!" Dean beamed down at her.

Before they could move much more, a voice called out, sounding panicked.

"Oh my God, Dean, have you seen..." Dean looked up and watched as Garrett rushed to the edge of the ice, catching himself on the board before he could topple over. He took in the sight before him and he put a hand to his chest in an attempt to calm down. "Oh my God, she wandered off. Hannah was so going to kill me...actually, she still might. What are you doing?"

"Dude, do you know how long I've been carrying those skates in my bag?" Dean asked in return.

Garrett gave him a look that melted away with his daughters loud giggles.

"Daddy, skatin'!" She exclaimed.

"I see that." Garrett of course already had his skates on and he took the guards off and pushed himself onto the ice. "How'd you swindle your godfather into bringing you out here?"

"No swindling needed." Dean beamed.

"You know Hannah's going to throttle you, right?" Garrett bent and took his daughter's other hand when she reached up for him.

"I can outrun her." Dean scoffed.

"A) She knows where you sleep. B) Your girl is her best friend." Garrett pointed out, still smiling down at his daughter.

"Son of a..." Dean glanced down at GiGi who was frowning up at him and he made a face. "Biscuit."

"Uh huh. Exactly." Garrett said. "What's that saying? Women before...girls before...chicks..."

"Before di..." Dean quickly looked down at GiGi again. "Yeah, you're on the right track with that last one. God...bless it."

"You know, I've never told you how impressive it is that you censor yourself around her." Garrett grinned.

Dean held up his wrist, showing off two rubber bands on it. "Allie spent so long snapping these things anytime I so much as even started to say a bad word that at this point it's sort of a Pavlovian reaction."

Garrett smirked at him.

"Lee?" GiGi asked, looking up at him.

"She's not here, baby, she's shopping with your mama." Dean said.

"Oh..." GiGi made a face at that.

Garrett gently squeezed her hand. "Since Dean's in trouble with mama, do you want to see how quick you can skate?" He asked. "Come here..." He let go of her hand and skated a few feet away, bending down on the balls of his feet. "See if you can skate to daddy...come here, princess."

Dean carefully let go of her hand and he hovered closely, watching her wobble a bit. His look went from calm to immediately worried, even though Garrett looked calm as a cucumber.

"Graham..." He murmured.

"She's fine, calm down." Garrett said, his face staying relaxed. He knew enough as a father at that point that as long as you didn't make a big deal out of something, nine times out of ten your child would stay reasonably calm. "Come here, GiGi, come to daddy."

GiGi got the same look on her face that literally everyone said she got from her daddy when she was focused on doing something and stubborn enough to see it through. She held her hands out to balance and shifted back and forth to try and move herself.

"Like this, sweetheart." Dean skated up beside her and showed her. "Use your toes..."

GiGi watched him for a second before she started again, doing a better job. She let out little grunting noises, but she managed to get herself going forward. It took a good few seconds, but she finally got within grabbing distance and Garrett snatched her up and kissed her cheeks.

"You did it!" He beamed. "You skated like a big girl!"

"Good job, Geeg!" Dean beamed at her as well, holding his hand out for a tiny fist bump. "Aww, we're so proud of you. You're going to be a defenseman before you know it!"

"Ahem, excuse you." Garrett said. "She's going to be a forward and the first female captain."

"That is unless she becomes a musician like her mama." Dean said, smiling innocently.

"Whatever she wants to do." Garrett kissed GiGi's cheeks again, causing her to let out a loud giggle. "...within reason that is. If you go into literally any other sport you're going to break your daddy's heart."

Dean snickered at that.

Later that night Dean got into bed with Allie, who was wearing a very sexy new pajama set that immediately made him start to drool when he saw her in it. He was just about to reach over and pull her close when his phone blared, keeping him from his actions.

He reached for it with a small sigh and made a face when he saw Hannah's name on the ID.

"Babe, is your phone charged?" Dean asked.

"It's charging, why?" Allie asked.

"Because it's Hannah." Dean swiped to accept the call. "Hey, what's up? Allie's besi..."

"YOU LET MY BABY ON THE ICE?!" She exclaimed, cutting him off.

"What?" Allie asked, gaping at him.

"Oh sh..." Dean started, before cutting himself off, his eyes darting between his very irritated girl and the phone where Hannah was still going off on him, trying to keep his wrist out of touch.

He was going to kill Garrett.

That is, if he survived this first.
