Steel and Silk 2

Summary:

Two months of silence. Two months of secrets. Two months for the iron to shatter.
As tension rises within the clan, Sungho and Riwoo are looking for the slightest crack in the man they used to call the "Man of Iron." While Jaehyun tightens his grip to protect the Mentor's secret lineage, a rival clan emerges from the shadows to claim a debt that only Woonhak can pay.
But in this world of blood and concrete, the most dangerous threat might already be closer than they think.

Notes:

Hey everyone! It's been so long, but my absence wasn't without reason 🫂
I've been working a lot and I have tons of stories in my drafts that I'm actually going to post. But most importantly, I needed to write the chapters for Volume 2 so I can update regularly without keeping you waiting too long.
I really recommend rereading Volume 1 if you have the time—or at least the ending—just to refresh your memory and get right back into the plot!
I worked so hard on this second volume and I love it. By the way, I made the chapters way longer compared to Volume 1!
Happy reading <3

Chapter Text

Prologue

The rain in Seoul didn't wash away the sins of the past; it only turned them into a cold, black sludge.
Inside the training hall of the headquarters, the rhythm was hypnotic. Thud. Breath. Crack. Reset. Leehan sat in the shadows of the upper gallery, his legs dangling over the edge, a half-eaten apple in his hand. Below him, the arena was a stage of controlled violence. Dongmin—the man the world knew as Taesan—was moving with his usual lethal precision, but something was different.

His eyes.

Every time Woonhak lunged, every time the boy’s blade whistled through the air, Dongmin’s gaze lingered a fraction of a second too long on the boy’s throat, his wrists, his heart. It wasn't the gaze of a hunter assessing his prey anymore. It was the gaze of a man watching his own soul walk around outside his body.

"He's getting soft, isn't he?"

Leehan didn't turn around. He knew Sungho’s heavy tread anywhere. The older soldier leaned against the railing, his face a mask of disgust.

"Two months ago, Taesan would have broken that kid’s ribs for a stance that sloppy," Sungho spat. "Now look at him. He’s correcting him. He’s teaching him how to survive, not how to kill."

Leehan took a slow, deliberate bite of the apple. He watched as Dongmin stepped close to Woonhak, his large hand moving to steady the boy’s waist. From this distance, it looked like a tactical adjustment. To Leehan, who saw everything, it looked like a prayer.

"He's not soft, Sungho," Leehan whispered, his voice smooth as silk. "He’s just found something worth more than his own life. And that... that makes him the most dangerous man in this building. Or the easiest one to destroy."

Sungho grunted and walked away, muttering about "real soldiers" and "lost discipline."

Leehan stayed. He watched until the lights dimmed, until Woonhak laughed at something Dongmin whispered, a sound so bright it felt like a sacrilege in this house of death.
Leehan’s smile didn't reach his eyes. He was looking at the way Dongmin’s thumb brushed against the boy's cheek—a gesture of such profound humanity.

You think you’ve escaped the iron, Dongmin, Leehan thought, his fingers crushing the remains of the apple until the juice ran sticky and red, like fresh blood, down his palm. But you forgot one thing. In this clan, when you find a treasure... everyone else finds a target.
