"Thank you, Jackie."
She dips her head, then reaches across the counter to tug the nipple into the cap. Shane grabs the bottle and sets it in the microwave. "Did you ever feel like it goes away tomorrow? Like you worked so hard, and fell so deep, then the lamp looks weird, and it'll all vanish?"
Shane's back is facing Jackie, so he can't see her expression. But she laughs once, and brushes their shoulders as they both watch the microwave spin. "Hayden and I weren't like you guys. My version of working hard and falling deep is completely different. Like Ilya said, different doesn't mean bad, just unique. You guys have spent so much time…and time is something you really can't waste, you know? Even if you both wake up tomorrow, and this is all a dream. I mean, the dream would be enough to take me back to sleep."
Or, Shane and Ilya introduce the Pikes to their own baby, Irina.
