Chapter Text
Beep Beep Beep
The earsplitting sound of my alarm clock echoed through my dorm room. A groan leaves my mouth as I reach blindly toward my bedside table, keeping my face planted in my pillow in an attempt to keep the sunlight out of my eyes. Alas, it was no use. I force my head up and actually use my sense of sight to shut off the annoying sound. I rub my bleary eyes, wanting nothing more than to allow my head to drop back down into the beckoning embrace of my memory foam pillow. Instead, I push myself to sit up. I ignore the ache in my bones and the yawn that threatens to creep up my throat and grab my phone. I turn it on, rolling my eyes as the facial recognition fails to give me access. Does it ever work? I type in my passcode and move on from the annoyance.
The screen immediately opens to my Instagram DM’s, that having been the last thing I did before drifting off last night. Luckily, it was exactly what I needed to open anyway. I scan the messages, reminding myself of the address and time I was supposed to meet mister @its_frm_j4p4n at. That’s right, I wasn’t even on first name basis with this random person, and I was planning on meeting up with him. Was this reckless and did it go against literally every Stranger Danger PSA ever? Yes. But I was desperate. My whole life I have struggled with social anxiety. I had little to no friends because of it. I needed a solution, and I happened to stumble upon it a couple of days ago. A pill. No, it wasn’t just any basic drug made for short lasting happiness, it was a permanent fix. It held a supercomputer. Once taken, it would implant itself in my brain and help me navigate life. It would help me be more chill. At least, that’s what the, albeit few and far between, Reddit posts said. It was probably a scam, and I was probably going to waste $400, but on the off chance it’s true, I have to take the risk.
My eyes glance lazily toward the time on the top of my screen. Shit! A sense of urgency pushes me to move. I throw clothes on and rush for the door. I was running late to a meeting I had set up. God, could I be any more of an idiot? I grab my wallet and my keys, nearly tripping as I attempt to slip my shoes on while moving. I practically throw my door open and sprint out of the dorm room. I just know people will be staring at me with judging gazes. Oh well, that will be fixed soon.
