Chapter Text
Prologue.
He leans back, eyes closing for a tortured half-second. Inhales. Then does it again. Deep breaths, letting the oxygen travel through his lungs.
“You’re gonna regret this tomorrow.” His voice is low.
It hurts. You want to lie to yourself. Tell yourself it doesn’t but it’s plain and simple that it does.
You put yourself out there - for the right or wrong reason - and your husband is rejecting you.
You only hope your face doesn’t show how you feel. That would be too humiliating.
“You’re right” You let out a sound so small even you’re not sure you’ve heard yourself correctly, hands falling to your sides while his are still holding your shoulders probably thinking you’re gonna try to get close again. You won’t. It’s way too humiliating as it is already. “I’m being foolish.”
“No, Y/n…” Taeyoung starts but you’re out of his hands and moving fast to the door.
“Where are you going?” He’s two steps behind you, confused and a little disoriented.
“I’ll spend the night at Ten’s.”
You don’t see the way his jaw ticks, the way the muscle on his forearm flexes.
Instead you hear: “Let me drive you, you’re drunk.”
“Please don’t.” In the small room next to the front door you exchange heels for a pair of sneakers as fast as you’re capable balancing the remains of alcohol in your blood and your ability not to fall in this state. “I’ll just get a cab. Please, ok? I…”
You turn around and catch his eye. You’re taking a deep breath and paste the fake persona you’ve mustered well this last year back on your face. “Everything is fine. I just need my best friend tonight. I’m sorry for…it’s on me, I am really drunk and acting foolish at the moment and it won’t happened again. Forgive me Taeyong.”
He opens his mouth but you raise your phone, screen facing your husband.
“My taxi is here.”
And you’re gone after that.
He doesn’t follow.
You’re grateful for it. Small blessings.
Tears fall silently in the car. The rejection stings more than you’ve ever imagined it would.
But it’s your own fault and you will be the one to bear the consequences. You maintained a status quo in your marriage and you had to go and ruin it. The only hope you have is that Taeyong won’t hold it against you since you were drunk. You don’t believe he’s a man to hold this kind of grudges.
When you arrive to Ten’s, Mark is already there as well. They don’t ask questions, comfort you with food and let you put your head on their shoulders as the ugly feeling eats up at your insides until you finally fall asleep with your head on your best friend’s lap on the couch.
In the morning it will be fine. You will be fine. You will never mention tonight ever happened and everything will go back to the way things were.
