Chapter Text
-------------
Everything was going according to plan, as you stand, with your own hands linked together lowered behind your back in the Knights of Favonius Headquarters office, as you wait for a certain Grandmaster to stamp a few papers, watching as he carefully straightening out the pages as he let the bottom of the papers drop against the table a couple times to straighten out the pile.
"Well, [Name], I'm glad to say you are now the Captain of the 5th Company! I can definitely rest easy knowing we have a reliable and experienced knight as the new Captain!" The cheery, tall, blonde Grandmaster chuckled as he hands you the important stack of paper work, which you can already tell, probably won't be fun to sift through later...
"Thank you Sir, I am surprised you are really trusting me with such a role so quickly, seeing as I have only been in the knights for a little over a year, I almost feel a little under-qualified..." You say with a lovely smile, gladly taking the paperwork off his hands, tucking them into your own folder to tuck under one arm, freeing the other as you place your free hand on your hip.
"Ahh not at all!" He waved a hand as if brushing off the statement firmly as he stood from his desk. "You have only been with us knights for a year or so and you've already made such an impression! All of your fellow knights and even the captains of the other companies know of you and really respect you [Name], and not to mention your previous experience as a head guard in Fontaine! I'd say you're more than qualified for the job!"
Varka beamed as he said it, that iconic glow and spark in his eyes. He truly was quite the admirable and confident leader to be around, just being in his presence made people feel reassured, with his pleasant and determined nature.
You laugh a little, amused at his praise, "Thank you for the praise Sir."
"How many times must I remind you to call me Varka!" He said sighing, slapping his hand to his forehead. "Oh I will warn you though [Name]... I presume you are already aware of your now Vice Captain Lohen?" Varka asked slowly with an obviously concerned look on his features.
"I have not really spoken to him myself, however, I have heard many rumours about his reputation..." You reply with a finger on your chin as you try and recall the things you've heard about this certain Vice Captain. Truthfully you had known who this person was for a long time, considering what intel you were given, the only thing you didn't know or remember well was his appearance.
"Yes well...." Varka pauses before continuing. "Just be weary he can be... a lot. Not to say he isn't a fantastic knight, because he very much is! He does have the habit of ambushing me and running off at times to fight monsters and the abyss. He definitely has a passion for fighting, unfortunately not in the way I had originally thought" Varka sighed again with an awkward smile on his face. "If anyone can handle him though, It'd be you [Name]! He needs someone to keep him out of trouble." The Grandmaster laughed running a hand through the unkept spikes on his head.
"No need to worry Si- Varka, I'm confident I can keep him in check!" You muse as you turn to walk to the door out of the office, in which the man held open for you letting you past.
"Well, good luck [Name] and let me know if there are any important issues!" He called after you with a wink as he watched you head out of the headquarters, to which you laugh in response looking back at him.
-------------
Perfect. Everything is going exactly as it's supposed to.
You think, as you head out at dusk, looking up at the beautiful ambers, purples and pinks illuminating the sky as the evening set in, feeling the cool breeze rush through you as you ponder outside Mondstadt's city grounds, heading towards Starsnatch cliff, normally you would wonder towards Windrise, but today you wanted to clear your head and sit somewhere higher to watch the dark sky fall. As you stroll towards the cliff, near the Thousand Winds Temple, however, you feel a cold chill shoot up your spine as you stop immediately freezing in place, slowly letting your fingers wrap around the handle of your sword.
Snap.
Your head whips around so fast you could have sworn you pulled something quickly observing your surroundings to see a man stood in-front of you, pole-arm in hand, and covered in dirt and something that looked and smelled suspiciously of blood... The noise was the sound of the strange man standing directly on a twig on the ground. Although, with the way it was done it almost felt like whoever this was did it on purpose to get your attention, especially as they managed to get this close to you without you knowing. You already were in a defensive stance, sword raised in a defensive position as you take a step back.
"Woah now! No need to be so scary!" the boy said with a nervous laugh stepping closer, his form and face now illuminated more by the moonlight. He had mint-teal hair, long and hiding his eyes a little, which were a beautifully fascinating colour, a mixture of blue, magenta and green. You also notice he's wearing a knight's uniform, which what seemed to be quite formal, now covered in muck and blood.
"Why is a knight out here alone covered in blood?" You ask him bluntly lowering your weapon yet still staying cautious, as you raise your eyebrows.
" I could ask you the same thing. Minus the blood part of course - yet you still drew your weapon rather fast." he commented with a smug look on his face as he looked at his own clothes and tried wiping off some of the grime.
"Walking." you replied concisely, now sheathing your sword and crossing your arms.
"At this time huh?"
"You didn't answer my question."
He doesn't say anything and instead just stares at you, looking almost puzzled as if he was trying to calculate something confusing about you in his head. He shrugs.
"Fighting some monsters in the area is all. Unfortunately there's not many out tonight and the ones that are, are all weak and die as soon as I practically poke them!" He exclaims frustrated and bothered.
"Isn't that a good thing?" You ask tilting your own head in confusion.
"No, it's so boring that way!" The young man waved his arms up as he said this and scoffed at the situation.
It had just then clicked to you who this might be...
Obsessed with fights... wondering off on his own...
"Well that's sure an interesting way to look at it I suppose." Not knowing what else to say you look over to the city. "Well. Nice meeting you, but I will be going now. Good evening Sir." You replied politely yet firmly as you walk around him to walk back towards the city. The confused knight didn't respond, instead only turning to watch you walk away as he let out a hum.
Considering he is my Vice Captain, and I his Captain, we shall have to actually aquatint ourselves properly at some point, though I don't think then was the right time... Especially unprepared.
You thought to yourself letting out a long sigh as you trudge back on the path towards the city gates. You had heard the rumours about his obsession with spilling blood and wondering off to fight monsters however, you didn't exactly expect to encounter him while he was out on his own fighting sprees.
I do wonder how easy it will be to get along with him...
------------
You were due to have your first day as Captain of the 5th company today, meaning having to talk to all of the knights within your faction and have a full organised meeting for the first time. Luckily you had prepared for this already, practicing with flash cards to make sure you knew exactly what you wanted to say. While you are a fairly organised and more or less confident person in these things, even you have to go over things a few times to ensure you won't screw up in the moment.
You were already dressed and ready as you walked into your kitchen to cut an apple as a simple breakfast as you looked over your cards one last time. They aren't essential of course and you won't bring them to the meeting but even so, it's still a useful tool.
Well I've done plenty of meeting type discussions at this point to get used to it, this won't be a problem...
After you finished eating your apple and putting down your cards on the counter you decide to leave and make your way over to the Knights of Favonius Headquarters. It was a pleasant, warm and glowing sunny morning, the warmth of the sun easing your thoughts as you walked through the already bustling city. Sara from Good Hunter even waved at you to greet you as you walked past with a large smile. In your short time here you had already acquainted yourself with most of the city and formed positive relations with them - which is perfect and useful for your mission, you never know when those connections might come in handy. Heck, you've even already gotten friendly with Diluc Ragnvindr, the owner of Dawn Winery and the tavern, Angels Share. This would most definitely come in handy later...
As you got to Headquarters, the moment you entered the meeting room you were already met with a large group of faces staring right at you, for just a moment, making you slightly uneasy as you let your eyes scan over the room for a moment, and there he was, stood at the front staring right at you, most definitely waiting for his new Captain to arrive. The amount of surprise on his face was evident, of course, he must have suspected you were a knight when you met on the cliff, but this, was most likely the last thing he was expecting. After a second however, he smirked as you both locked eyes, you, slowly walking around the group to stand beside him at the front.
"It's you."
You can't help but smile at the humour of it.
"Hello, Vice Captain Lohen."
