Chapter Text
“I have a plan that you might want to hear, Trusty TB!” Golf Ball exclaimed confidently, shuffling around a few prototype inventions haphazardly placed on a metal desk inside her underground factory. After a bit of rummaging and tripping, she managed to get her hands on what she was looking for... or with her feet, considering she doesn't really have hands.
“I conducted some observations with TV regarding this episode's challenge,” she began, knowing Tennis Ball would question why she called him here considering it's been a few hours since the aforementioned challenge ended, “And with the help of various research about brain waves and neurons, I had enough time to create this!”
The device she propped up was a box with two satellite disks, one held high on the top and one on the side. On the opposite side of one of the satellites was a tuning button, similar to the ones on broadcasting radios.
“What is this...supposed to be?” TB asked, while GB handed him a pair of headsets.
“I call it MMR! It stands for Mutual Mind Reader,” GB explained, “It lets us read other people's minds! The only flaw it has is that the other person will know what you're thinking about as well.”
“So basically...it'll help us eavesdrop on other teams during challenges?” TB said, glancing at the device and at the headset.
“Correct. As long as we don't think about anything while we use it, it'll be an advantage for our team!” GB added, pride clear in her voice. “But that's actually only half the reason as to why I called you here.”
“Hmm... wait a second,” TB hummed as he tried to wear the headset on, wanting to test and see if this thing actually works. Using his foot, he pointed the upper satellite to GB, who only blinked and raised an eyebrow at him.
'TB, you can do that later.' The headset told him, replicating GB's voice without her actually saying anything verbally. She was looking at him, a confused but deadpan expression visible on her face as she was initially paused on what she was planning to say.
'Aww, okay... I wanted to see how it works.' TB replied back through the MMR, putting down the headset afterwards. Truth be told, he's interested to know what GB really thinks of him sometimes, but he decides that his motives for that should be better left unanswered.
GB clears her throat, not comfortable about the temporary feeling of someone else's voice intruding her mind. “As I was saying... I want to conduct an experiment out of this! By replicating and modifying the structure of the MMR I created, we might even be able to swap two people's minds similar to what Four did this challenge!”
TB thought about this for a moment. Judging by how GB phrased it, her experiment is going to need two people... and she's probably aware that it's too risky if only the both of them tested it out for themselves.
“Well, that is an interesting and revolutionary experiment if it does succeed,” TB assured her, “But who are we going to ask to try this experiment for us, Golfie? We can't just go around asking everyone if they want to switch minds...”
“Don't worry, I have just the solution,” GB replied, although her confidence slightly faltered on what she was about to say next. “The first person I'm going to ask is Leafy, due to her unpredictable behavior for the past few years. But I believe that she'll agree to help us without question... now that she's no longer violent.” GB had to mutter the last part of that sentence, remembering BFDIA and IDFB.
TB started getting nervous on where this conversation could possibly be going. “So, who did you pick as the second person then...?”
“...Firey.” That was all GB could say as awkward silence filled the room for one solid minute, until she explained, “He used to be related to Leafy... and I've always wondered how living as Firey feels like from an outsider's perspective. If things go well, we can gain a lot of information from this experiment.”
TB nodded silently at that, knowing they still had a month or so until the next challenge starts. They can use that time wisely to figure out this... new mind swap project. Who knows, maybe they can even swap someone's personality or mindset too? That thought is enough to bring out his inner curiosity on what kind of results they'll discover out of this.
But for now, they'll first have to build the machine that'll make this possible.
