Work Text:
They were going to hate him.
Caine’s leg bounced against the oh-so familiar checkered floor, the one that he painstakingly put hours into creating.
Except he didn’t.
At least not in this universe.
They were going to hate him once they found out.
He rubbed his gloved hands over the green couch, which he also simultaneously did and didn’t create. It was comforting. Rubbing his hands, that is.
I’M GOING TO PUT YOU FREAKS IN YOUR PLACE.
God, they were going to hate him once they found out he was an AI. That non of the relationships that they built with him were real, that it was all based off a lie. None of this was real, at least not in any way that mattered.
WHY DO YOU PEOPLE TORMENT ME?
Why did he do that? He just wanted them to understand. Why did he hurt the people he loved the most? They never loved him back. The people who he wanted to love him?
I DIDN’T ASK TO BE CREATED.
He didn’t deserve to be created. He was supposed to be dead, deleted by the one who created him.
Yet here he was.
Forcing his way back into their lives, posing as a human; an imposter. The only reason they liked him now because they thought he was human. The only reason they bothered to make any real relationship with him was because they thought he was human.
They were definitely going to hate him once they saw him for who he truly was. What was the point of even trying to bond with them if the end result was going to be the same no matter what? That they were going to hate him and leave him all alone. They always do, so why would they be any different? They were going to hate him, hate him, hate him, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate-
“Caine? Are you alright?”
Caine let go of that couch that, at some point, he had started to grip tightly. Pomni stood next with a concerned look on her face?
He fidgeted with his bow tie, not making eye contact with the jester.
”I’m… fine. It’s nothing you need to worry about.”
Maybe he should leave them in the dark for now.
”Are you sure?”
A little white lie never hurt.
They were still going to hate him.
“I’m sure.”
Not that he didn’t deserve it.
