Notes:

Hi everyone! I recently finished watching the Dressrosa arc with my boyfriend and I honestly really enjoyed it. It was an interesting storyline with quite a few plot twists and Doflamingo was an amazing villain.
I'm honestly not the biggest fan of the "enemies to lovers" trope but with these two, I just couldn't help myself! They are OOZING sexual tension when they stand near each other and I just love the intensity between these two.
And since there are unfortunately not many fics about them here on AO3, I thought this is the perfect opportunity to overcome my eternal writer's block and be productive for once XD

I don't know how big of a fanbase of them is out there, but I still hope some people will find enjoyment and pleasure while reading this! ;)

Chapter 1: An interesting reaction

Chapter Text

The air in Dressrosa’s castle dungeon felt heavy with salt and iron, weighed down by an oppressive sense of control that made it hard to breathe.

Chains clinked softly as the young pirate captain Monkey D. Luffy stirred, his body aching from the fight he couldn’t quite remember finishing. His arms were bound high above him, seastone cuffs biting into his wrists, draining him of any strength. He grimaced, trying to pull free out of sheer stubborn instinct.

A low, amused laugh echoed through the cell.

“Fufufufu… still struggling, even now.”

The voice was unmistakable. Donquixote Doflamingo stepped forward from the shadows, pink feathered coat brushing the ground like something alive. Behind him, the sluggish form of Trebol lingered, grinning in his usual grotesque way.

Luffy’s eyes snapped open. “Doflamingo!”

There was no fear in his voice—only anger. That alone made Doflamingo’s grin widen.

“Such spirit,” he mused, crouching just close enough that Luffy could feel his presence. “Even after losing.”

“I didn’t lose,” Luffy shot back, though his voice wavered slightly as Doflamingo’s long fingers brushed under his chin, forcing him to look up.

The contact was light. Barely there.

But Luffy froze.

Doflamingo noticed immediately.

“…Oh?”

His touch lingered a second longer, thumb grazing along Luffy’s jaw. The reaction was subtle—just a hitch in breath, a flicker of heat rising across Luffy’s cheeks—but it was there.

And that was enough.

“Well, well… what an interesting reaction.”

“Shut up!” Luffy jerked his head away, but the motion only made the chains rattle helplessly. His face burned now, much more visibly, and that seemed to delight Doflamingo far more than any act of defiance.

Trebol snickered in the background. “Heh—Doffy, looks like the brat’s sensitive—”

“Leave us.”

The command was quiet, but absolute.

Trebol paused, then shrugged, oozing his way out of the room with his usual clown-like chuckling. The heavy door shut behind him, leaving only silence—and tension that coiled tighter with every second.

Doflamingo stood slowly, towering now. “You’re full of surprises, Straw Hat. Strength, willpower…” He tilted his head. “And such… innocence.”

“I’m not innocent,” Luffy muttered, though it sounded more defensive than convincing.

“No?” Doflamingo stepped closer again. Too close. “Then why does something as simple as this—” his fingers ghosted along Luffy’s collarbone, slow and deliberate “—make you react like that?”

Luffy sucked in a sharp breath, shoulders tensing. “I said—cut it out!”

But he didn’t sound angry now.

He sounded flustered.

Doflamingo’s grin sharpened.

“Fufufu… you really don’t know, do you?” His voice dropped, almost thoughtful. “Untouched. Unexperienced. And yet you throw yourself into the world like you own it.”

Luffy glared at him, though the intensity faltered every time Doflamingo’s hand drifted just a little too close to somewhere sensitive. “What’s your point?”

“My point,” Doflamingo said, leaning in until their faces were inches apart, “is that you’re far more… entertaining than I expected.”

There was no mistaking it now—the way his gaze lingered, the way his voice softened into something darker, more possessive.

Luffy swallowed.

Not out of fear.

But because something about this—this closeness, this attention—was throwing him completely off balance in a way no fight ever had.

“I despise you,” Luffy muttered.

“You do,” Doflamingo replied easily. “That’s what makes it interesting.”

His hand slid again, this time resting briefly against Luffy’s side—light, testing.

Luffy flinched.

Not away.

Just… reacted.

And that reaction sent a visible thrill through Doflamingo.

“Such honesty in your body,” he murmured. “You can’t hide anything, can you?”

“I’m gonna punch you,” Luffy said weakly, though his face was now unmistakably flushed.

Doflamingo laughed—a low, rich sound that filled the room.

“I’d like to see you try.”

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Then Doflamingo straightened, turning away as if nothing had happened at all. “Rest for now, little Straw Hat. You’ll need your strength.”

Luffy blinked, disoriented by the sudden shift. “What for?”

Doflamingo glanced back over his shoulder, smile sharp as ever.

“Because I’m not done with you yet.”

The door opened, light spilling in for just a second before it slammed shut again—leaving Luffy alone, chains rattling softly as he exhaled.

His heart was still racing.

And he hated that he didn’t entirely understand why.
