Nothing is Wrong

Summary:

Paul is a college freshman and his life is great. He gets good grades in all of his classes and he managed to get his school's theater club to let him put on his own original play! Sure, it's tech week and two of his actors don't know their lines, but the show must go on, right? And besides, Christmas is coming up, so he's got that to look forward to. He and his friends are all going to meet up over break to celebrate, surely. Nothing is wrong! Nothing is wrong. Nothing is wrong...

Chapter 1: Cast

Chapter Text

  • PAUL BILLIARDS - College student with high-functioning depression. Is excited to be directing his own play but feels emotionally disconnected from his peers. Waiting for December to bring him a Christmas pick-me-up.
  • BILL BACKGAMMON - The only friend at college Paul feels really close with; also playing the dad in Paul’s play. Reserved and patient with Paul’s antics. Prefers not to bring up his own problems.
  • JUDY POKER - The lead in Paul’s play. Doesn’t have her lines memorized until the last minute. Is dealing with some intense stuff in her personal life, which Paul does not realize.
  • MARIELLE BLACKJACK (pronounced MUH-RAY) - The final actor in Paul’s play. Her vibrant social life has kept her from fully learning her lines. Outgoing and charming.
  • RICHARD ROULETTE - Paul’s best friend who goes to a different college but comes home for the break. Kind of a dudebro. Speaks his mind and doesn’t mince words.
  • THE HOUSE - Paul’s inner monologue. Appears during ‘Interstitials’ to comment cryptically on the events of the play. Restrained insanity.

This show is written in two acts:
