It was a nice day...

Summary:

Crowley and Aziraphale try to tell the story of how things began... They may need some help.

Notes:

Work Text:

Standing on the wall, rain splattering against his wing, Aziraphale longed for a cup of tea, which was a bit odd really, since it would be a long time until Britain invented the good old cupperty. Still, there were worse places he could be. Out there for one, battling lions and who knew what else. No, instead he was standing with a cold arm pressing more firmly against his own with every minute.

Wait a minute angel… You're misremembering it. The rain hadn't started yet…

A lost and lonely figure stared out from high up on the wall. His blond curls catching the late afternoon sun, a worried look on his brow. When along came a devilishly handsome snake. Sleek red and black zig-zagging up the wall like a bolt of lightning (which also hadn't been invented yet, but was very much on its way.)

Well, if you're going to be nitpicky about it, you're jumping ahead quite a bit yourself!

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

And God said, “Let there be light,”

I thought you said Crowley, well, AngelCrowley said that. I remember because—

Yes,yes, not now my dear. Just a bit of creative license

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

Dammit Aziraphale, just reading that burns my eyes, and what's that Maggie was saying?

How about you two stop arguing and compromise!?

What and break the habit of a lifetime?

Took longer than a day.

What was that dear?

It took longer than a day. All the work. All the stars and stuff. The whole team of us were at it for, I dunno weeks at least. Time didn't really have much meaning back then. But it was definitely not just a day.

We're trying to tell a story, it doesn't have to be literal.

It literally does.

Listen, you two will never get your story finished with all your bickerflirting–

"Bicker”??

“Flirting”????

–so I suggest you turn to someone who knows what they’re doing. There’s a goblin named ireallyneedmoretea who lives in a village called GOAD. She’s renowned the world over not just for her wonderful writing but also for her expert beta reading. I bet she could work miracles on your manuscript!

Miracles?

Err, leave the actual miracles to us, but what do you say, my dear? Perhaps this “Tea” can take a look at our notes while we try that new trattoria around the corner? I am feeling rather peckish after all this writing.

Sure. I’ve been curious about their wine list.

Yes, please do ask your friend if she is available to beta.

Do you think she can make sense of our, erm, “notes”?

I have faith in her.

Excellent! please let her know that in gratitude, we will ensure that she always has plenty of tea.
