Chapter Text
Dandy woke up yawning as he let his alarm go off, cherishing the warmth of his bed. He always loved starting the day off with his favorite song, Waltz of the Flowers! Not that he needed to, but he always noticed the difference when he didn’t wake up to it. He slowly sat up and stretched out his arms while letting out a big yawn, he was still tired but the day was waiting for him! He stood up fully, tapping his feet and bopping his head to the music playing. It was his favorite after all.
After his alarm finished fully did he walk over to his dresser, the floor was cold on his bare feet. He opened the first drawer and pulled out his favorite sweater, his mom had made it for him, a cream colored one with pastel flowers embroidered onto it. Even if he thought it was cheesy he felt special wearing it. Next, he pulled out a pair of his favorite light blue jeans that fit oh so perfectly with his cream colored sweater. And even though nobody would probably see them, he pulled out a pair of rainbow socks, with flowers of course!
After changing he looked into his mirror and struck a silly pose, he looked awesome! Glancing down he noticed Pebble, his pet rock. Even if other kids teased him over Pebble that didn’t let Dandy get him down! He loved Pebble, despite the fact that he was just a rock with googly eyes and a wobbly mouth made by permanent marker. He walked over and gave Pebble a stroke on his head.
“Dandicus! Breakfast is ready!”

“There’s my darling baby boy!” His mom exclaimed when she saw him.
Dandy playfully rolled his eyes before sitting down at the table, his breakfast laid out in front of him. It was his favorite!! French toast, bacon, and fresh fruit from the market. Dandy wasted no time in digging in, school was soon and he had to go!

After scarfing down his meal he slung on his backpack and laced up his shoes. But before he could make it out of the door he felt something tugging on the loop of his backpack.
Dandy turned back to see his mom holding his water bottle in one of her hands with a playful smirk on her face. “Forgetting something?” His mom asked.
“Oh yeah! I almost forgot, thanks mom!” Dandy said whilst grabbing his water bottle and kissing his mom on the cheek.
“Anytime baby, now get going before you miss the bus!” She said, pulling him into a quick tight hug before letting him go and waving goodbye as he shuffled out the door.

The bus ride passed quickly as Dandy looked out the window and listened to his classical music with his headphones. His mom had bought them for him at Christmas. He didn’t really need a new pair but his mother insisted, and he’s glad she did. She somehow found a pair of headphones with his favorite flowers on it, shooting stars. People often believed his favorite flowers were sunflowers due to the amount of them he sported on his clothes and other items, but in reality it’s just because those were easiest to find on items.
Once the bus finally pulled to a stop did Dandy take his headphones off and go to the front of the bus. He scanned his card that indicated he was at school and gave a cheery “Thank you!” To his bus driver before getting off the bus.
Walking into the school he saw his best friend, Astro, waiting for him at the doors.
“Astro!” Dandy squealed before wrapping his arms around him in a ginormous hug. “It’s so good to see you again!! It’s been too long.” Dandy said whilst nuzzling his cheek against Astro and breathing him in.
“You goofball, you saw me last night at theatre practice.” Astro replied, giggling a bit as he spoke.
“Yeah that’s soooo long!!” Dandy said before pulling away from the hug and grabbing Astro’s hand. “Now come on, the bell rings in 5 minutes!”

The bell rung right as they made it into their first period class, hands still clasped together. They had language arts together, which meant they had free seating wherever they wanted in the class. Dandy walked over to where they always sat, a cozy little spot in the corner with pillows. The classroom was also kept with soft lighting, to “help students focus” as Mr. Russo stated multiple times.
Finally letting Astro’s hand go, Dandy set down his backpack and sat down. He opened his bag to grab his computer and water bottle before getting situated next to Astro who had sat down too, scooting closer before finally laying his head down on his shoulder.
“Alright kids… today we’re just going to work on the paragraphs we started on yesterday. If you need any help don’t be scared to ask me or your peers.” Mr. Russo announced to the class before sitting back down at his desk.
Astro and Dandy wasted no time opening their computers and opening their Google Docs. Dandy searched his bag looking for his wired earbuds but he couldn’t find them. He must have forgotten them at his house this morning.
“Oh fiddlesticks.” Dandy muttered under his breath.
“Whats wrong?” Astro asked with concern.
“I forgot my earbuds at home, I can’t use my headphones on my computer.” Dandy said, the sadness in his voice clear.
“We can share mine if you’d like, we can listen to your classical music too if you want.” Astro replied, a soft smile painted on his face.
Dandy blushed before stammering out a “yeah… that sounds nice.” Why was he even blushing? Astro was his best friend!

After an hour the bell rang, waking Dandy up. When had he fallen asleep? And why didn’t Astro tell him?
Still half asleep, Dandy mumbled “When did I fall asleep?” Whilst sitting his head up properly instead of on Astros shoulder.
“I’m not quite sure, but you looked so peaceful I didn’t want to wake you up.” Astro replied, staring at Dandy in the eyes with that same smile from earlier.
“That’s sweet of you, thank you Astro.” Dandy said, giving him a smile of his own.
Dandy put his computer and water bottle back in his bag, was still tired from his nap but it couldn’t be helped. It was Astros fault for being so darn calming anyways.
Dandy stood up and stretched his legs before offering his hand out to Astro, who of course accepted it before standing up himself and began to start walking, their fingers intertwined.
They walked together for a moment before Astro had to pardon himself to get to his next class. Dandy dropped Astros hand and gave him a quick wave before scurrying off to his own.

After 3 more periods, it was lunch time. Halfway through the day! Dandy thought with joy. Plus he and Astro had 2 more classes together!
After going through the lunch line he thanked the lunch staff and walked over to where he and Astro sat at lunch, sometimes with others but mostly just the two of them.
Astro was already waiting at the lunch table, eating the lunch he packed. When he saw Dandy his face lit up and he raised his hand and waved at him.
“Dandy! You will not believe what just happened in cooking. We were trying to fry churros and Sprout started an oil fire! Mx. McLaughlin had to come over and extinguish the fire with baking soda.” Astro explained whilst Dandy started eating, the shock on his face apparent. “We were lucky it was only a small one, otherwise it could have set off the fire alarm and everyone would have had to exit the school!” Astro finished, giggling slightly.
“Oh my goodness! I’m so glad everyone’s okay.” Dandy responded. Of course Sprout was the one to start the fire, for a baker he sure wasn’t the best cook!
After eating and talking more, the bell that let students know lunch was over went off.
“Geez! Why does the 30 minutes they give us always seem so short?” Dandy groaned.
“Like the elders say, time flys when you’re having fun.” Astro said with a goofy expression on his face. Dandy giggled and grabbed his lunch tray. “Wait for me will you?” Dandy asked. “You know I wouldn’t leave you behind.” Astro said in a calm voice, contrast to the one he had just moments prior.
After dumping his tray and stacking it with the others Dandy walked back to their table where Astro was still waiting for him. Taking Astro’s hand they started walking to P.E. together. They both hated that class but at least they had each other and their other friends.

Just as the two walked into class, they heard someone shout “I HATE DODGEBALL!!!!” It was Shrimpo. Of course.
“Shrimpo. We’ve been over this before. If you can’t handle the game we do you can always walk.” A stern voice replied. It was Mr. Seedly, the gym teacher. “I HATE WALKING!!!” Shrimpo yelled.
Ignoring that entire conversation, they both set down their belongings. Astro noticed Sprout and Cosmo up ahead and he and Dandy started walking over to them together.
“Howdy friends!” Dandy hollered at the two whilst giving them a wave with his free hand, the other holding Astro’s.
“Oh hey Dandy, hey Astro!” Sprout replied, giving a smile. Cosmo looked over and let out an amused grin. “We were just talking about how Sprout started a fire earlier.” Letting out a giggle.
The 4 of them talked a couple minutes before they were told to split up into teams, Cosmo and Sprout taking one side while Dandy and Astro went on the other one. When Dandy and Astro walked away Cosmo turned to Sprout “Do you think they’re… gay?” Cosmo asked with curiosity in his voice. “Yeah no most definitely, just look at them! No best friends do all that! Not even us!” Sprout responded in a sure tone.
Soon dodgeball started, and Shrimpo, like always, just had to cause trouble. He threw a ball at Cosmo and it hit him in the head. Before anyone even had time to react Sprout screamed “YOU SON OF A BITCH!” And punched Shrimpo in the nose.
“Oh golly…” Dandy said, covering his mouth. Shrimpo had blood all over his face and he fell to the floor from the impact, now making noises almost guttural from how bad the pain was.
“SPROUT. SEEDLY.” A voice boomed from the side of the gym. “OFFICE. NOW.” It was Mr. Seedly. Sprout turned around, realizing what he just did before looking his dad tentatively in the eyes. “But dad, he… he hurt Cosmo!” Sprout pleaded. “Does Cosmo look hurt to me? NO! Sprout, they’re foam balls. Cosmo is fine.” Sprout looked over at Cosmo, who was holding his head in one hand while using the other to give a thumbs up. Sprout stomped out of the gym, not even bothering to grab his stuff.

The rest of the day went by as normal, Dandy walking in the hallway with Astro and going to his classes. He and Astro both had the same class together last period, so after the bell rang they walked out together.
“Wanna hang out at my house? We don’t have theatre practice today.” Dandy asked Astro. “You know I do silly, let’s go and get in my car before the rush.” Astro replied.
…
“Hey mom! I’m home!” Dandy exclaimed while he crouched down and unlaced his shoelaces.
“Hey baby!” His mom said, walking over to the doorway. “And you brought company! Err… what was your name again?” His mom asked, embarrassed. “MOM!! This is Astro, remember?” Dandy replied before turning over to Astro “Sorry about her” Dandy said before giggling nervously.
“Oh no it’s quite all right, thank you for having me Mrs. Dancifer.” Astro said politely.
“You boys go ahead upstairs! I’ll fix you two a snack, be up in a minute.” She said cheerfully.
The two of them climbed up the stairs and went into dandy’s room, getting on Dandy’s bed immediately. Dandy put his hand underneath his bed before he finally found what he was looking for, his personal computer. Opening it he and Astro looked for a movie to watch, soon enough they found one. It was Fantastic Mr. Fox, one of their favorites.
Dandy’s mom came in and gave them their snacks before retreating back downstairs. Putting their snacks to the side, Astro laid down and Dandy put his head onto his chest, feeling the way Astros breathing felt against his cheek. Astro then wrapped his arm around Dandy before pulling him closer and putting the blanket over the two, and then placing the laptop on his stomach.
The two snuggled together whilst watching the movie, growing sleepier with each growing minute. After an hour the two had both fallen asleep, the movie as backround noise to the two of them.

“Hey sweetheart, is Astro staying for dinner tonight or- oh!” Dandy’s mom stood in the doorway looking at the sight before her. The two of them were sleeping together, Dandy even snoring a bit with his mouth open against Astro’s chest.
She almost melted at the sight… her baby boy liked someone! Or… at least she assumed so. She’d have to ask after Astro had left. This was all so new to her! She never expected her son to like someone, especially not a boy! Not like it was a problem, as long as her boy was happy she was happy too.
Walking over to Dandy’s bed she shook Dandy awake. “Come on sleepyheads, it’s time for Astro to get home!” She said, keeping her voice soft. Dandy let out a grumble before opening his eyes and realizing the position he was in and what it probably looked like. Dandy sat up immediately before giving his mom a huge death stare. “You saw nothing.” Dandy hissed before turning back down at Astro. He looked so peaceful and cute… whatever! He needed to wake up and get out right now.
He carefully got off of his bed, hoping not to move it to much as to not wake Astro quite yet. After getting on his feet he practically pushed his mom out of his room and closed the door, still giving her the same death stare as before.
After he closed his door he looked back at his bed, where Astro was staring at Dandy looking as if he was about to burst into laughter. The second he and Dandy locked eyes he did.
The laughter was contagious and soon enough Dandy was laughing too, wheezing from how hard he was. He didn’t even know what was funny he just enjoyed Astro’s laugh.
Astro stood up and came over to where Dandy was before pulling him into a big hug whilst still laughing his butt off. After calming down he let go, standing rather awkwardly in front of him.
“Well uh… I guess I should go home now?” Astro said nervously whilst playing with his hands, a habit he did whenever he was scared or felt awkward.
“Yeah um… that sounds like a good idea!” Dandy replied.

5 minutes later they were downstairs and Astro was putting his shoes on. Dandy had his hands behind his back as he just stood there.
“Well… I think guess is goodbye for now?” Astro asked with a small smile on his face.
“Yup! See you tomorrow…” Dandy replied, returning the smile.
Dandy stood at the door as he watched Astro get into his car. He gave a polite wave before closing the door and turning back towards the kitchen, where his mom was standing with a smirk on her face.
“So… are you boys dating?” She asked, amusement in her voice.
“MOM!!”
