Chapter Text
In a time long since passed, there lived a young witch of great renown. The Divine of his majesty Venancio III, Divina de Viejo Mar. She was every common man’s dream: a young girl with an affinity for the arcane arts, taken and trained to perfection; promoted to Divine.
The king treasured her greatly and held her close to his chest, showering her with all the power and riches the world could provide. For a tome, there was no shelf left untouched; for an herb, no garden left unpicked; for her knowledge, no price too heavy to bear. So utterly loved was she that they could not see the rot that festered beneath her gilded robes.
For the Divine was no good man. Blinded by greed, she turned her gifts up to the abyss and bargained for a power to rival even the old gods. Enraged by her insolence, the Sun God, Silaw, struck her down and cursed her form for the rest of eternity. No longer could she feel the warmth of the sun’s embrace. No longer could she live without craving for human flesh.
From her back sprouted black leathery wings wider than the heavens. From her mouth grew a liar’s tongue sharper than a blade. She was a monster. In body, mind, and soul.
Seeing her new form, the king grew fearful. If his Divine was punished by the Sun God himself, then she was no Divine at all. She was a demon, sent from the other world to destroy them.
All of them.
Spurred by this fear, the king imprisoned her and ordered his men to build her a cage atop the craggy rock at the heart of Pequeño Mar.
There a blackened fortress now stood high above the water… its lighthouse turning ceaselessly in a never-ending fog.
This was over two hundred years ago.
And now…
A young man is set to kill her.
