Chapter Text
Shinji’s life was not very good, to say the least. At six years old he lost his mother in a car accident, leaving his father in a great depression, reaching the point of distancing himself from him and leaving him in the care of Misato Katsurugi, who was his mom’s best friend and had a great affection for him and for his mother.
Misato was there for him when he fell into a great depression after being distanced from his father and after losing his mother. She comforted him, took care of him, and was there for him in the worst moments of his life, and he fully thanked her for it. He thanked her for all that comfort and those displays of affection that she gave him; he thanked her for not leaving him alone. Misato, who had a good status, had transferred him to the great Nerv Institute, a prestigious institute that contained primary school, secondary school, and preparatory school, and it was also a gigantic institute. He thanked a thousand gods for making Misato work in that place, because he would possibly get lost in that gigantic place.
His first day in primary school was not very good, to say the least. When they invited him to enter the classroom and introduce himself, nobody turned to look at him, not a single glance, something that saddened him. It was obvious, who would notice someone like him? He decided to put those thoughts aside and move toward his seat where they indicated, which was the last seat, something he appreciated. When he sat in his place he saw that his desk partner was a boy who had not even turned to look at him. Shinji, nervous, sat beside him without giving any greeting; he really did not know how to relate to people. Every time he tried he trembled like jelly and stuttered.
And that was how the rest of the class went...
Recess was not the best; he literally spent it alone while he watched other kids play among themselves or just talk.
He also wanted to play...
Someone who stood out a lot in his class was a girl who had been transferred from Germany. Her name was Asuka Langley Sōryū. She was someone intelligent and proud; her personality was somewhat explosive. She was provocative and competitive at the same time. From one day to another Asuka began to get closer to him. At first he tried to move away because the girl seemed like someone intimidating to him, and at the same time he was afraid of being close to someone. He felt that they would abandon him like a rag... like his father, who did not hesitate to abandon him.
Since Shinji suffered the abandonment of his father he acquired a new insecurity.
Abandonment.
Not only did he lose his mother, he also lost his father, and that saddened him. He wanted to return to the days where his mom hugged him and transmitted security and affection to him; he truly missed her.
The fear sometimes happened to him with Misato when she left him alone at home; that anguished him.
Days passed and Asuka and Shinji had become friends. Shinji decided to put that fear aside and allow Asuka to be part of his life, his friend, his first friend. Well, he did not receive very good treatment from her, but at least he had a friend, that was what mattered. The months went by and Shinji during that time slowly began to make friends, who were Asuka, Toji, and Kensuke. He would not lie if he said it was the best year he had. Sometimes the fear of being abandoned invaded him, but he tried to be strong and avoided those thoughts.
His days improved; they went from being total silence to conversations and laughter from his friends.
But not everything is roses...
