Work Text:
Tim opened the front door, not bothering to take his keys out. He pushed past the entryway with the grocery bags. Jay turned towards Tim, a surprised look on his face. “Hey, you’re home.” Jay said.
“Hey, I’m home,” Tim mocked. He set the piles of bags onto the kitchen floor.
“I could’ve helped you with that.” Jay set his computer on the coffee table, standing from the couch.
“Oh, no. It’s fine, only a few bags. I can handle it,” Tim grinned at Jay. He was happier nowadays, Jay thought as he gave Tim a ‘Welcome Home’ kiss. Tim started to go back for the rest of the food whenever something caught his eye.
“Hey, Jay? What is that?” He pointed to the couch with his eyes, staring at a black ball of fur curled up and purring on the heated blanket Jay used.
“Oh, that?” Jay asked, walked over to the couch with a big smile plastered on his face.
“Yes, that.”
“She was meowing at the back door earlier, so I let her in,” Jay picked up the cat, who let out a soft meow of surprise. She was a loud purer. “She is so insanely cuddly. She’s been sleeping next to me while I work all evening.”
“You just found a cat?” Tim walked towards the little thing. It was cute. It must’ve been young; it resembled a kitten more than a mature cat.
“No, the cat found us, duh.” He laughed slightly at his joke.
“Right, right,” Tim reached out to pet her, “Are we keeping her?” He asked as the cat started licking his fingers.
“I mean, I was hoping to. She seems to like me. And you too, for that matter. I can buy a litter box, food, toys, all of that. What should we name her?” Jay let her down, sitting her on the floor. She rubbed against his sweatpants' leg, meowing loudly.
“I dunno. You found her, you should name her.” Tim shrugged, walking back outside. Jay followed, running down the steps to the truck.
“Well, I was thinking about Fangs. She likes to bite me, so it’s pretty fitting.” Jay leaned into the backseat to grab the remaining bags.
“Yea?” Tim already had his hand above Jay, resting on the door to close it.
“Yea,” Jay was still smiling ear to ear, his joy overflowing. Tim didn’t know Jay liked cats. He didn’t know he was that attached to this cat this quickly either.
“Fangs sounds nice.” He shut the door and followed Jay back up the steps. Once he sat the bags down, he leaned backwards into Tim’s open arms.
“She can sleep in our bed, too. C’mere, kitty kitty.” Jay tsked the cat over. The little thing ran straight up to him.
“I think she likes you.” Tim inquired, resting his head on the other man’s shoulder. He wrapped his hands around Jay’s waist, taking in the smell of his bodywash.
“I think she only does because I fed her a bunch of food earlier. She’s so tiny,” Jay said.
“You wanna take her to the vet tomorrow? I should get off around 1:30 or 2:00 if you wanna go?” Tim pressed a kiss to Jay’s neck. He hadn’t seen Jay all day. He had gone to work, then remembered they were out of basically everything, stopped by three different grocery stores, then finally came home. He wished he could work at home like Jay did, but his job brought in so much money for them. That was the main reason they paid their house off so quickly was because of Tim's job. He worked down at the lead plant as a mechanic, and it paid extremely well. He didn’t mind doing the hard work here and there, but missing Jay was a huge part of it. They had grown so codependent it was hard to be without him.
“Yea, I’ll head to the store in the morning to get her some stuff. Should we get her a collar?” Jay’s voice lit up. Tim snorted.
“Sure, we could do that,” Tim nuzzled his face into the crook of Jay’s neck, “You smell really good,” Jay pushed him off.
“Stop that, you always say that. I smell like normal me,” He said, bringing his wrist to his nose.
“Yea, normal you smells good.” Tim sat down on the couch, taking his boots off. He needed a break. The cat jumped onto the other side of the couch next to Tim, pawing at his leg.
“Hey, kitty.” Tim smiled. Jay took to the space between the end of the couch and the cat. Fangs crawled into Tim’s lap, already purring again.
“Aww. I think she likes you too,” Tim reached a hand out to rub in between the little things ear, earning him a loud meow. Jay snickered, leaning his head over to rest on Tim’s chest.
“You wanna take a nap? Then we can cook later? I’m so tired, it’s actually insane.” Jay yawned with that, readjusting himself to get more comfortable.
“The last time we did that, we both woke up in the middle of the night.”
“Mm, that doesn’t count,” He let his eyes fall shut.
“It definitely does. You can sleep, I’m gonna watch something on TV. Maybe find a decent movie.”
Jay had long since dozed off before the sleep took Tim as well. Fangs, resting peacefully in his lap, and Jay softly snoring on his chest. For a pretty bad workday, this had turned into an extremely relaxing evening not only for Tim, but Jay too. Once again, like before, they both woke up at eleven, confused as to how they got on the couch, and dozed right back off again.
