Chapter Text
At night in the city of Vale set a quiet dust shop. Inside were only two people. The elderly shopkeeper who stood behind the counter and a shirt girl in a red hood.
This silence would soon be broken as the doors opened. Entered Roman Torchwick, a well known criminal in Vale. With him are two of his men in black suits, wearing fedoras and sunglasses. Roman lights a cigar as he turns to the shopkeeper.
"Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a dust shop open this late?" Roman asked. He snapped his fingers as one of his men held a gun up to the shopkeeper.
"J-just take the lien and leave!" The shopkeeper pleaded in fear.
"Quiet you, we're not here for your money" Roman said in a reassuring tone before his tone became more cold again. "Grab the dust" he tells his men.
Roman's men start filling bags with dust vials, dust crystals, and the likes. The shopkeeper reluctantly complies and helps them.
One of Roman's men approaches the short girl from behind, aiming a sword at her back.
"Alright kid, hands up" the henchman commands but no answer. "I said put your hands where I can see 'em!" He demands with still no answer. He turns her around. The girl looking surprised as her hood falls down to reveal headphones. She takes one side of her ear and sees the sword in his hand.
"Are you...robbing me?" She asks in confusion.
"Yes!" The man yells in anger.
"Oh" the girl responded.
We cut to a view of the shop from outside as the man gets thrown through the window.
The girl in question jumped out the window. Her name was Ruby Rose. She stands up, holding her signature scythe-sniper, Crescent Rose, in his scythe form.
Roman and his men hear the commotion. "Don't just stand there, deal with her!" Roman commands as he and his men run outside the shop.
One henchman approaches her as she swings her scythe around to knock him back before slamming her scythe into the ground and finishing him by using her scythe to spin kick him.
Landing back down she sees a second henchman run for her, dodging his attack and slamming her scythe down on him. Two down.
She sees that she's now surrounding by five henchmen. Using her semblance to petal burst into the air. Crescent Rose changing into it's sniper form as she loads a combustion dust round into it. Shooting the ground between the five henchman as the explosion sends them flying back. She lands to her feet.
"You were worth every cent, truly you were" Roman remarks as he drops his cigar and puts it out with his cane. Police sirens can be heard in the distance
"Well, little red. This has certainly been an entertaining evening...and as much as I'd love to stick around..." *Roman aims his cane at Ruby as the bottom opens up to reveal a gun. "This is where we part ways" he says, shooting off an explosive shot in her direction.
Ruby shoots a sniper shot at the ground, shooting herself into the air and avoiding the blast. When she lands, she sees Roman fleeing up a ladder. Immediately giving chase.
Roman makes it to the roof with Ruby arriving right after him. Shouting "hey!*.
"Persistent..." Roman remarks, sounding a bit annoyed. Ruby readies to fight him but a bullhead arrives and opens a hatch.
"End of the line red" Roman says as he tosses a dust crystal at Ruby's feet and shoots at her. Resulting in an explosion.
However, the explosion is blocked by a protective spell. Cast by a woman standing in front of Ruby. Glynda Goodwitch. She then casts a summon spell as several purple streaks attack the aircraft.
As the bullhead shakes, Roman approaches a woman in red who's struggling to pilot the thing.
"We have a huntress!" He warns.
The woman hands over the controls to Roman as she walks towards the back. A purple storm cloud being casted as hail falls hard from above.
"They never give up...do they?" Roman asked himself in annoyance.
The woman shoots a blast of fire at Glynda and Ruby which Glynda once again protects against.
Ruby aims her sniper at the woman and shoots. Roman seeing this turns the bullhead so that the bullet completely misses.
The woman shoots another blast then another. Too fast for Glynda to block so she grabs Ruby and backflips away from the explosive fire blasts.
Part of the roof is destroyed. Glynda retrieves some shards to magically cast an arrow. Throwing it at the aircraft. Roman tries to pilot the bullhead out of the way but it still hits.
Glynda attempts this again but the woman on the aircraft blocks the arrows with rings of fire.
Ruby attempts another sniper shot but gets blocked by the woman's attacks. Creating blazing circles around Ruby and Glynda.
Glynda grabs Ruby again and dodges the explosion from the rings of fire. When they look up the hatch of the aircraft closes and is too far away to give chase. Glynda sighs.
Ruby gives Glynda an exciteful smile. "You're a huntress! That's so cool!"
We cut to a dimly lit room where Ruby sits at a table and Glynda walks back and forth scolding Ruby for her recklessness.
"If it were up to me, you'd be sent home... With a slap on the wrist" Glynda says coldly. "But someone else wants to meet you" *she says as she steps aside to reveal a man in green with a plate of cookies and a mug. He sets the cookies down and sits opposite to Ruby. The man observed Ruby.
"You have... Silver eyes" *he comments. Pointing out Ruby's unique eye color. Ruby seemed confused.
"So! Where did you learn such fighting techniques?" The man asked as he gestured to a scroll showing Ruby's fight against Roman's men.
"Signal Academy..." Ruby answered.
"They taught you to use one of the most dangerously designed weapons at Signal?" The man asked in disbelief.
"It's just I've only seen one other scythe-wielder with that skill level. A dusty old crow?" Ozpin asked.
"Oh, that's my uncle Qrow!" Ruby responded between eating cookies. She finished a cookie so she could speak more clearly.
"He's a teacher at Signal. Took me under his wing. Now I'm all like..." Ruby says as she starts imitating action movie sounds. The man nods.
"So what's a small girl like you doing at a school that trains warriors to fight monsters?" The man asked.
"I want to be a huntress" Ruby responded.
"You want to slay monsters?" The man asked out of curiosity.
"Yeah! I only have two more years at Signal then I'm gonna apply for Beacon! My sister Yang is already starting this year!" Ruby says with excitement.
"Do you know who I am?" The man suddenly asks.
"You're Professor Ozpin. The headmaster of Beacon" Ruby answered.
"...and you want to come to my school?" Ozpin asks.
"More than anything" Ruby says with excitement.
Glynda pulls Ozpin aside.
"I don't think she's ready. She's too immature, too reckless. A more competent huntress in training would've known to call in a Huntress from the start" Glynda said with great disapproval. Ozpin simply laughs.
"Yet, most Huntsmen and Huntresses wouldn't be where they are today without a few hiccups" Ozpin points out with a smile. He returns to Ruby and nods.
"Okay" he answers. Ruby smiles with excitement.
We cut to a larger bullhead, an airship. Where Yang, Ruby's older sister, tackles her into a bear hug.
"Oh, I can't believe we're going to Beacon together! This is going to be great!" Yang said with excitement.
"Please stop" Ruby said, barely able to breathe as Yang drops her from the hug.
"I'm just so proud of you!" Yang says with excitement in her voice.
"Really, it was nothing" Ruby claims.
"What do you mean? That was incredible! Everyone at Beacon's gonna think you're the bees knees!" Yang continued to hype her sister up.
"I don't want to be the "bees knees"! Okay? I don't want to be any kind of knees! I just wanna be a normal girl with normal knees!" Ruby said in annoyance.
"She sure does love the word knees a lot..." A red head girl commented from a seat nearby to a guy with long black hair wearing primarily green and magenta.
"Nora, it's rude to listen in on conversations" the guy commented.
"It's not my fault Ren... They're so loud!" Nora said, clearly not self aware of how loud she is in the moment. Ruby and Yang were too caught up in their own conversation to notice though.
"What's with you? Aren't you excited?" Yang asked.
"Of course I'm excited...but I got moved ahead two years... I don't want people thinking I'm special..." Ruby admits.
Yang gives Ruby another hug. "But you are special" she assured her sister.
Their attention was grabbed when Glynda appeared on a big screen.
"Welcome to Beacon! I'm Glynda Goodwitch" Glynda started.
"Is that...?" Yang asked, implying Ruby told her about how Glynda helped her against Roman.
"Yeah" Ruby responded.
"You are among a privileged few who have received the honor of being selected to attend this prestigious academy! Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace, and as future Huntsmen and Huntresses, it is your duty to uphold it. You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task, and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and the training to protect our world" Glynda announces as the airship approaches Beacon.
Ruby and Yang enjoy the view outside the airship window. You then see a blonde boy run across the airship to vomit into a trash can.
"Poor guy" Yang commented. "Guess the view isn't for everyone" she added.
"It was a nice moment while it lasted" Ruby commented.
"Who do you think we'll meet?" Yang asked.
"Hopefully someone better than vomit boy" Ruby remarks.
Soon enough the airship lands. Before them a large impressive school built with beautiful architecture. Students walk off the airship as we focus on Yang and Ruby again.
"The view from Vale's got nothing on this" Yang says, sounding impressed.
Ruby becomes a 2D chibi character as she notices all the student's weapons.
"Oooh! Yang! That girl's got a glaive gun! Oooh oooh! He has a sword bow! And she's got a 3 in one weapon! That's so cool!" Ruby shouts. Nerding out over weapons.
"Easy there, sis. They're just weapons" Yang says.
"Just weapons!? They're an extension of ourselves! A part of us!" Ruby says with starry eyes as she returns to normal form.
"Ruby, come on. Go make some new friends" Yang said, trying to encourage her sister.
"Well... Why would I need new friends when I have you?" Ruby asked.
"Well uh..." Yang sees some students she recognizes in the distance. "My friends are here. Have to go! See ya!" Yang said as she ran off to talk to these students. Clearly an excuse to help Ruby make new friends.
"Wait! Where are you going!? Are we supposed to go dorms!? I don't know what I'm doing!" Ruby panics as she falls back onto a luggage cart.
"What do you think we're doing!?" A voice asks. Ruby looks up to see an angry white haired girl in fancy clothes. She quickly gets up.
"S-sorry" Ruby says sincerely.
"Sorry!? Do you have any idea what you could've done?" The girl asked. Ruby holds a case in confusion.
"Give me that!" The girl says as she opens it to reveal dust. "This is dust, mined and purified courtesy of the SDC" the girl said proudly.
"Uhhhh..." Was all that came out of Ruby.
"Are you even listening!?" The girl asks waving a red dust vial around. "Dust! Fire, water, lightning, ice!" She explains further. The dust vial being shaken around causes Ruby to sneeze. An explosion of several elements go off on the girl.
"Ugh, are you a complete dolt!?" The girl asked.
"I'm so sorry!" Ruby said in regret.
"Aren't you a little young to be here!?" The girl asks harshly.
"Well I-" Ruby is interrupted.
"This isn't your ordinary combat school, you know? So watch where you're going!" The girl shouts.
"Hey, I said I was sorry Princess!" Ruby responds in frustration.
"Heiress actually" another voice says from the side. Blake Belladonna.
"Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company. One of the largest distributors of energy and dust in all of Remnant" Blake continued.
"Finally! Some recognition!" Weiss says.
"The same company known for it's questionable business practices. As well as it's mistreatment of the faunus" Blake finishes. Weiss gets angry again as Ruby laughs. Weiss gets up in Blake's face.
"The nerve of- ugh!" She yells as she decides to just storm off instead.
"I promise I'll make it up to you!" Ruby shouts to Weiss. "So, what's your..." She turns to see that Blake is gone. "...Name?"
"Hey, I'm Jaune" the vomitboy from earlier introduced himself to Ruby.
"Hey, aren't you the guy who threw up on the ship?" Ruby asked as she shook his hand.
