Work Text:

They say that the eyes are the window to the soul. A timeless metaphor of discovering one’s true character and perception. Although this can mean anything to anyone, and people will do what they will with this message–

Rumi takes it quite literally.

Rumi has seen almost any and every shade of brown in Zoey’s eyes. She can’t tell if it’s from lighting or raw emotions. Everyone who knows of Rumi’s demon heritage has used “magical” to describe her at least once in their lifetime.

She thinks Zoey has more magic in those two orbs on her face, than she could ever have in her own hybrid being.

She sees it in the early morning. Just when the first rays of sun reach through the curtained window of their shared bedroom. Rumi, who usually wakes up first, gently cradles her sleeping girlfriend. Letting herself take in all the girl’s features closely in her relaxed state. It’s the only time she gets to do so, before her firecracker wakes up and takes the day by storm.

From counting as many freckles as possible, to memorizing the breathing pattern coming from her parted lips. The sunlight peeks its way in to cascade a golden halo, illuminating across her face and hair.

Zoey eventually cracks her eyes open, immediately met by light.

Chestnut Brown.

Rumi sees chestnut brown eyes. Trying to look up at her, without letting too much of the sun in at once.

“What a soft color for such a soft girl.”

Rumi thinks to herself. Which is fitting because when Zoey’s brain finally catches up, her first instinct is to nuzzle her face against Rumi’s neck. Before she thinks her girlfriend is content she then feels featherlight kisses slowly creeping up towards her jaw. Wherever Zoey could reach, her lips were there.

The mix of body heat, Zoey’s kisses, the morning birds singing outside, the rising sun– it’s all so soft. It’s chestnut brown. Zoey is soft like chestnut brown.

Rumi feeds into it. She slides her arm up the length of Zoey’s body– from where it was initially resting on her hip, up to her face. She takes a hold of her cheek and lifts her head where they meet eye to eye. Staring directly into chestnut brown eyes.

A smile forms on Rumi’s face– soft and warm. Zoey’s eyes are in their natural state as she stares back at her. Brighter, rounder, but still soft. She brings her face closer to Rumi’s. Their noses brush against each other as they both let their eyelids fall into a squint.

“Morning Ru.” Rumi can practically feel Zoey’s lips move as she speaks. Her raspy morning voice quietly makes its way across the room. Rumi lets out a low chuckle.

“Morning sleepy.. Feeling okay? You’re pretty close this morning.” She teases, as if this isn’t already a daily occurrence.

She feels Zoey’s grip on her tighten. Lips ghosting over her own, almost in a silent plea. She takes it upon herself to close the gap. Her thumb caresses the cheek she’s still holding while she starts to feel Zoey’s lips begin to move with her own.

It starts out a little hungry. Quick pecks mixed in with longer timed locks as their legs become intertwined. Zoey tries flushing herself completely against Rumi, almost as if she’s trying to morph into her. But then it slows down into something lazy, calm, and soft. Like they have all the time in the world at that moment.

The sounds of slow opened mouthed kisses fill the space of the room. Underneath the warm comforter you’d think they were just one being because of how pressed into each other they were.

“You’re extra sappy this morning Jagiya.” Rumi coos between kisses. “What’s the occasion?”

Zoey pulls back slightly. Simultaneously she hooks one of Rumi’s legs and slides it so it’s in between her own.

“I just love mornings with you. I never want to leave this bed.” Zoey’s eyes meet Rumi’s once again, capturing her in a trance of chestnut. She squeezes her legs together so they keep Rumi’s sandwiched in between them.

“Such a soft girl. We won’t leave until you say. How’s that sound?” Rumi whispers. She takes her fingers to the back of Zoey’s neck to scratch at her nape.

A content hum comes from Zoey. “Waffles for breakfast when we get up please?” The question groggily slips out Zoey’s lips.

There’s no way Rumi can say no. She’s already making a mental note to get the Kuromi waffle maker from the cabinet, Zoey’s favorite one out of the five different themed ones she’s collected.

“Of course. Anything for my soft girl.” They fall back into their rhythm of kisses and caresses, letting their morning slip away.

She sees it in the peaks of the afternoons. When the skies are at their brightest blues and the city’s people are buzzing to life. They disguise themselves from the public without overheating as much as they can, and conquer Meyong-dong for a quick lunch date.

After walking around the area Rumi gives up and asks Zoey if she just wants to grab something from Isaac Toast, Zoey’s favorite quick bites stand that sells sandwiches, coffee and specialty juices.

Zoey's smile is big when she looks up at Rumi, it shifts her whole face to this adorable, almost squishy look– giving anyone the desire to pinch her cheeks endearingly.

What Rumi can’t look away from though are her eyes. Which she thinks tells just enough of how excited she really is.

Honey Brown.

She sees honey brown eyes flooding into her own. Bright, and shining louder than any of their award show trophies.

“What a bright color for such a bright girl.”

She can feel her pulse in her ears. Zoey’s excitement towards pretty much everything is contagious. It always finds its way into Rumi– a warm and electric feeling that dances around her heart that she wouldn’t trade for the world.

“Yesss! We haven’t had Isaac Toast in foreverrr.” Zoey places her hands on Rumi’s shoulders and shakes her as she exclaims her excitement. In reality, the last time they had Isaac Toast was two weeks ago. Two weeks too long for Zoey apparently.

Rumi snorts. “Watch the shaking, before my hood falls down.” She shimmies her way out of Zoey’s grasp before pulling her in by the hip. A simple gesture that brightens Zoey’s eyes once more.

They get to the stand in no time. Zoey gets a ham, cheese, and potato sandwich and Rumi settles for the honey garlic ham and cheese sandwich. They share a sparkling grapefruit drink because Rumi can never finish one on her own.

She watches Zoey’s honey brown eyes sparkle under the midday sun, just when she takes a bite and the melted cheese stubbornly strings between the sandwich and her mouth. A gasp can be heard from Zoey as she pulls the food further and further away, before the strings break and she’s left with a “cheese tongue” spilling from her lips.

They take a glance at each other before breaking out in laughter. Zoey struggles to collect the hanging cheese while Rumi pulls out her phone to sneak a couple of photos. Zoey’s eyes gleam their honey brown glow in every single one.

She secretly makes one her new homescreen before shutting off her phone.

“Silly girl.” Rumi murmurs before taking the broken end of the cheese. She watches Zoey’s eyes follow her as she puts the end into her own mouth. Starting to take bites towards Zoey.

She quickly catches on. The blush on her face visible as she makes her way towards the center. For a couple of girls who were trying to stay hidden they probably weren’t doing a good job.

There’s one bite of cheese left between the girls. Rumi takes a second to look into Zoey’s eyes, then at the cheese, and back at her eyes again. Almost like she was giving her the honors to taking the last step. Zoey chuffs out a little laugh before closing her eyes and biting one last time– taking the rest of the cheese in her mouth and securing her lips onto Rumi’s. They hold themselves there for a second before pulling apart.

Zoey is bright– her ecstatic girlfriend is brighter than honey brown in this crowded city. Of all the commotion zooming around them Rumi can only see the bubbly girl in front of her. She hugs one of Rumi’s arms, initiating her to start walking. “Can we go to Miniso super quick? I wanted to get those cute hair clips I saw last week!”

Rumi doesn’t have to answer because they both know the answer is already yes. Zoey’s already leading the way. And Rumi’s prepared to get her bright girl the hair clips, along with anything else her heart desires.

Ironically, the hairclips Zoey was eyeing at Miniso were “honey bear” themed. Cute plastic teddy bears and jars of honey were placed on each clip. Rumi teases her as this is the first non-turtle interest she’s had in a while.

“Honey Bear clips to compliment her honey brown eyes.” The thought passes through Rumi’s mind instantly.

“Until they release turtle accessories I don’t have yet, the honey bears will have to do!” Zoey claims as she soon gets distracted by the beauty aisle.

Rumi ends up with a full basket, and an even fuller heart by the end of their shopping spree.

She sees it in the darkest of nights. When the moon and stars are dancing in the sky and the cool air binds people together. Buildings lined up with loud but colorful lighting bring the attention of Seoul’s young adults on a Friday night.

Rumi and Zoey are amongst them all. Being idols come with their perks sometimes– getting to access the more high-ended clubs being one of them.

Rumi leads her girlfriend to the bartender’s table to order their first drinks of the night. She’s dressed in a tight white top and silver sequined mini skirt. Her light gray blazer she used as a “jacket” is draped over her shoulders, almost falling off as she guides Zoey to the bar.

She tries not to stare for periods of time too long. Zoey’s curves highlighted with the glittery navy blue mini dress she was wearing. The cowl neck and slim fit hugs her figure nicely.

Although dressed in dark colors she still manages to be the brightest one in the venue. She’s a little social butterfly in these situations, covering herself and Rumi for people’s small talk as they make their way through the crowds.

“What can I get you ladies tonight?” A kind bartender asks. He looks the same age as the girls, but his drink making skills convince them he’s been around a lot longer than people may be expecting.

“Can I get a lemon drop?” Rumi orders for herself. “And then a malibu sunset for her?” She gestures to Zoey, bringing her in even closer with the arm she already had around her lower waist.

“Make it extra strong please!”

Rumi laughs at her request. A fond smile on her face, but the gaze in her eyes she returns to the bartender is a silent request not to. He understands completely.

He places the crafted drinks on the table as Rumi takes out her cash to pay, slipping a generous tip in the mix as well for working with Rumi’s concern. Zoey immediately takes a sip, savoring the fruity flavor combination while they make their way toward a reserved booth. Another idol perk they like to use to their benefit.

They both take their time with their drinks. Not talking much at first because of the music, but enjoying each other's company nonetheless.

That was until Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop The Music” starts playing throughout the club.

Safe to say Zoey was ready to dance. She downs her drink. Letting it get her energy buzzing to let it all out on the dance floor. She’s a giggling mess as she starts grabbing at Rumi’s blazer.

Baby are you ready? ’Cause it’s getting close.

Don’t you feel the passion ready to explode?”

What goes on between us, no one has to know.

This is a private show, oh

“Dance with me Aegi!” Rumi, who has never said no to Zoey a day in her life since they started dating, lets her blazer fall on the booth’s bench. She takes one last long sip from her lemon drop, not quite finishing it– Zoey’s energy is already intoxicating enough.

She lets her get dragged to the floor. Zoey’s already going through movements, letting herself feel the music.

They find an open spot in the crowd which was a bit more difficult due to the popularity of this song. The bass is louder than it was from where their booth is. An entire sea of people is around them but Rumi’s eyes can't leave the girl in front of her.

Do you know what you started? I just came here to party.

But now we’re rockin’ on the dance floor, actin’ naughty.

Your hands around my waist, just let the music play.

We’re hand in hand, chest to chest and now we’re face to face.

Rumi watches and mimics Zoey’s moves that are correlated to the lyrics. Before she knows it her hands are tugging Zoey in by her hips and she feels Zoey’s arms around her neck. They sing only to each other but voices are drowned out by the music.

Their dance is messy, they're more focused on enjoying each other. What started out cute turned sensual when Zoey decided to turn around and press her back against Rumi. Her hips slowly sway with no plan to the beat of the song.

Rumi lets out a small gasp as she slides her hands up and down Zoey’s sides. Reciprocating her movements as best she can without melting too quickly.

When she turns Zoey back around. She’s met with half lidded eyes trying to make their way into her soul.

Russet Brown.

Before she can react Zoey slips one of her legs in between Rumi’s, guiding one of her girlfriends legs into her own and sliding herself against Rumi’s front. Ending up in another grinding-like dance.

The lyrics at this point can barely be heard. Not when Zoey’s russet brown eyes have Rumi wrapped around her girlfriends’ finger.

She grips Zoey’s hips harder with no thoughts behind it. Almost as if it’s second nature. It causes their chests to press together as well. It’s impossible for either of them to keep their eyes or hands off the other.

The combo of the club lights, the music, and Zoey simply existing makes her look ethereal. She didn’t need a drink to come to that conclusion. Zoey knows what she does to Rumi. She knows all her likings.

Rumi thinks in that moment her minx of a girlfriend knows her deep eyes do things to her. In this and any other setting.

Zoey purposely makes Rumi stare eye to eye with her. Not that Rumi wouldn’t do it willingly anyways.

“What a gorgeous color on a gorgeous girl.” One of Rumi’s hands finds its way under Zoey’s jaw. While trying to contain herself she holds her still and she comes down, her lips barely brushing against Zoey’s ear.

“You have no idea what you’re doing to me, Aegi.” It sends a chill down Zoey’s spine. She pulls away from Rumi and pulls her arm while she makes her way off the dance floor.

She realizes after a minute she’s guiding them to the bathrooms.

The bathrooms are somehow just as vibey as the club itself. Light is only coming from the mirrors and the overhead lights are colorful instead of white. Rumi lets herself get basically dragged into a stall.

The door doesn’t get to close all the way before Zoey is on top of her. The straps of Rumi’s top are used as Zoey’s leverage and she’s bringing Rumi in for kiss after kiss. The song having been switched from Rihanna to a David Guetta song a while ago. Which one it is doesn’t matter to them as they made out in the bathroom.

Things escalate quickly. Rumi had only gotten more roused up from before. She brings her hands under Zoey’s ass and gives a squeeze– using her strength to hike her up against a wall in the stall. She then starts making her way down Zoey’s neck. Placing hot kisses down the line of her throat.

“Rumii– nngh– Aegiii!” Zoey’s mind is soaring. Rumi’s attention leaving her more tipsy than her drink did. Rumi makes her way back up her neck. When she gets close enough Zoey brings a hand to firmly grab Rumi’s braid. Drawing her attention back to her.

“What am I doing to you baby? Are you gonna show me here? In the stall?” Russet brown eyes glanced between girlfriend’s features as Rumi finally snapped.

Golden. Zoey is met with Rumi’s now golden eyes. Thanks to her demon heritage of course, but it's Rumi’s window into her soul. Where Zoey’s elaborate eyes shift between shades of brown, Rumi’s matches with her gold.

“Only if you want me to, darling. I’d love to devour you in this bathroom stall.” Her voice is hinted with a rasp. She unknowingly presses Zoey further against the wall.

Zoey lets out a whine before her lips are back on Rumi’s. Gold and russet eyes never leave each other– their night does indeed fade away in that stall.

𖤓⋆˖⁺‧₊𖤐₊‧⁺˖⋆☾--------𖤓⋆˖⁺‧₊𖤐₊‧⁺˖⋆☾--------𖤓⋆˖⁺‧₊𖤐₊‧⁺˖⋆☾

“Eomma! Mommy! Skipper is stuck under the couch again!” A little girl shouts, grabbing the attention of Rumi and Zoey quickly, making them scurry into their living room.

“What is he even doing out of his space Bo-mi? You’re supposed to be ready for bed by now.” Zoey crouches down next to her tiny replica with a flashlight of her phone. They look identical in the way they try to find Skipper, the family pet guinea pig under their couch.

“I promise I’ll be in bed as soon as we find him. It’s my fault he got away.” Bo-mi sits up to look at Rumi. And oh my god

Chocolate Brown.

Lord and behold, Bo-mi inherited Zoey’s “magical” eyes. similar in shape and size. Zoey actually never figured out Rumi’s analyzing skills when it came to eye language. But Bo-mi worked smarter, not harder.

Her eyes became her secret weapon.

“Heyy don’t you start with that sweetie.” Rumi starts. She can tell she’s already falling apart under the glance of her daughter. You’d think someone just denied her access to the teddy bear museum with that look on her face. “Both of you move back, I’m going to lift the couch.”

Not only did Rumi have one, but now two pairs of chocolate brown eyes casted in her direction. They watched her intensely as she brought the couch up from one end. Near the wall it was pressed against sat Skipper. Frozen in place– he probably knew he got caught being sneaky… again.

“Skipper!” Bo-mi quickly makes her way over and scoops the guinea pig into her arms. Chocolate brown stares into beady black, she rushes out the living room to place him in his space and making sure all the latches are secured this time. When she turns around her moms are already at her door.

“I don’t see a Bo-mi in her bed, do you Jagi?” Rumi says out loud. Zoey catches on to Rumi’s game. A daily occurrence in this household is the war of getting their child into her bed.

Rustling sheets can be heard in the dark room as Bo-mi scrambles into her bed. She leans over to turn on the night light in the outlet next to her before settling underneath her blanket.

Rumi and Zoey make their way to her. Zoey tucks her in while Rumi makes sure the latches to Skipper’s space are actually all locked. “Alright my sweet. You have a big day with auntie Mira tomorrow at the dance studio. That means early wake up and quick breakfast.” Rumi says to Bo-mi.

“No Snoopy waffles?” It almost comes out as a whine. She always has waffles for breakfast made from her Snoopy waffle maker. A gift from Zoey last Christmas.

“Yeah no Snoopy waffles?” After all this time Zoey never changed. Rumi is once again met with two pairs of shining chocolate brown eyes being reflected from the light of her daughter’s night light. They both silently beg. Zoey’s doing so because Rumi to this day, has still never told Zoey no– and Bo-mi thinking she’s winning this battle with her learned “tactics”.

“What a sweet color for these sweet girls” Rumi can’t help but think to herself.

“Very charming you two, Snoopy waffles will be on the table tomorrow.” The two in question come together to hug Rumi. Two windows she is able to experience life out of, aside from her own eyes. Two of the most important souls to her are some of the most beautiful and purest imaginable. Guiding her through what will be the best life she could possibly ever have.
