She watched from on high as the soldiers fought. Her brother stood beside her, watching the battle. They watched as the blood spilled from corpses, the scent of death strong in the air, filling them with energy. The sound of the clash of swords rose up to them making them grin, matching, bloodthirsty smiles. This was what they craved in their souls. This was what pulled them down from their comfortable lives. This was war. And they loved it.
Currently her troops were winning, something she could run in her brother's face until he won a battle. But still they stood side by side watching, waiting, hoping. Their armies were little more than toys, no real matter how many died in the relentless pursuit of victory. Time and time again, different places, different times, different people, but the same desire to win
She watched as one soldier cut his way through a mass of bodies, each an enemy soldier now dead. If he won she would reward him greatly, if not she would forget about him in a few days at most. He was extremely talented, defending himself well as with each body cut down several more came after, like a hydra regrowing their head.
She smiled to herself as her brother groaned in despair, if he didn’t call for the end of the battle soon he would lose almost all his soldiers and she knew he wouldn’t want to lose everyone he had trained, it was such a hassle to find good soldiers quickly, and this war was far from over.
He signalled to his generals to retreat in defeat. Turning to leave, “Nice try baby brother,” she teased, “maybe next time you might have a change at killing one of my soldiers.” with that he left and she followed him after one last glance at the battle field.
