Reunion

Summary:

Sonic has always lived his life running, but in an unexpected reunion, he is forced to stop and face the abyss of the years. More than the passage of time, he is confronted by the vivid memory of Amy Rose, whose presence forces him to face his greatest adversary: his own cowardice.

Our hedgehog must decide whether the fear of vulnerability will continue to dictate his destiny, or if he will finally find the courage to stop running from the unconditional love he left behind.

Work Text:

It had been an immensely long time since they had all been in the same place. The tranquility of the reunion was as strange as seeing the stars at noon. That scene was an intricate tapestry of familiarity and astonishment: seeing them now as complete adults, bearers of lives that had branched off into paths as distinct as the petals of a wild flower.

Every face, every contained gesture, came laden with new stories, invisible scars from personal battles, and, most palpable of all, silences. Silences that before the distance would have never existed, and which now settled between them as uncomfortable relics of an unrecoverable time. They looked at each other with the respectful curiosity of someone trying to decipher a version of themselves who chose another path.

The night's atmosphere was not one of strident celebration, but a tangible melancholy, dressed in amber lights that bathed their contours in a sepia tone, appropriate for nostalgia. The warm murmur of jazz music and contained laughter barely managed to conceal the tension beneath the surface. It was a soft, almost ceremonial joy, sustained only by the powerful anchor of shared memories, that immutable past that united them above the abyss of the years. For everyone, save perhaps for him, the gathering was a safe harbor. For Sonic, however, it was the sudden revelation of a truth he had been outrunning at full speed.

Sonic was nearing thirty, an age that, in his opinion, marked the end of total freedom. The rest had long passed that stage. Even Tails, his little brother, now acted with the calm and pain of knowing he had discovered some of life's hard and inevitable truths. It was as if everyone's life had continued its inexorable march in his absence, or, worse yet, despite it. The hero who could conquer time and space now felt as if he had blinked, and the current, selfishly, had refused to stop and wait for him. In that room full of familiar faces, Sonic felt, for the first time, out of sync with his own history.

But none of that disarmed him as much as seeing her.

From the first moment, Sonic had fought a losing battle against himself, trying not to look at Amy. He did it in fleeting, stolen moments, as if the mere act of observing her could leave a visible mark on his face. When she laughed and adjusted the rebellious lock of her quills, when she leaned over the table to better hear Cream's anecdote. Five years, an abyss of distance, hadn't been enough to erase the way her mere presence pierced him. He had missed her in a raw, persistent way that he would never allow himself to verbalize. And alongside the nostalgia, he carried a discreet, yet ironclad, guilt: never having had the courage.

Never having made up his mind. Never having told her.

Time had not just gone; it had slipped away, like fine sand, between his gloved fingers.

Since that moment they shared on the Starfall Islands, where he saw a different but determined Amy with the desire to explore the world and share her love, he knew she had grown up.

Now, doubt gnawed at him: Did Amy still keep that unconditional place for him in her heart? Perhaps that young love, so clear, so direct, always offered without condition or expectation, no longer inhabited her. Maybe that intensity had only been the fever of adolescence, a stage Amy had decided to leave behind.

She had always chosen him. It had always been him. And he... he never knew how to bear that weight without breaking himself or breaking her.

That's why he had let her go without a single word, without a goodbye to justify his cowardice.

Now she was standing before him, resplendent, almost unbearable in her own light. She laughed within her circle, illuminated by that warmth that seemed to be her essential attribute. Sonic found himself watching her like one observes a beloved relic, fearing it might wilt with just the touch of a hand.

Amy was still essentially Amy. With that firm sweetness, that tireless enthusiasm, that joy that didn't need to shout to be felt. Sonic felt a deep relief and something more, something more vulnerable: he had feared that time might have disfigured her, making her unrecognizable. But no; the essential remained intact.

And that moved him to the point of pain.

His eyes descended unintentionally—or perhaps wanting too much—and he felt a treacherous blush rising. Maybe it was the years, the distance, the repressed desire. Or maybe it was the short dress that revealed her legs with an effortless nonchalance. Amy had always been very beautiful, but now there was a quiet maturity in her, an unflashy self-assurance, that disarmed him in a new way.

Sonic felt an attraction more intense than he was prepared to admit. It wasn't the alcohol. It was her. It had been her all along.

And yet, he remained anchored in his silence. The same Sonic who guarded all his feelings where no one, not even himself, could see them.

The early morning stretched lazily. The party was still alive, although Blaze and Knuckles had already said their goodbyes for work reasons; Shadow, true to form, had never deigned to show up. Vector and Espio were still drinking beside him, and Sonic was already on his third drink, speaking with a slightly altered honesty, as if an internal spring had finally loosened.

It was then that he saw her.

Amy was ascending the stairs with that reflective slowness. Sonic felt the impulse before the thought could form: a warm, urgent tug that lifted him from his chair before he could doubt.

—I'm heading up. See you later —he muttered, leaving his half-full glass.

He searched for her through the silent corridors, his heart beating against his chest with a cadence he hadn't remembered in years.

Then he saw her again.

He found her on the balcony. She was leaning against the railing, looking toward the party that continued to throb without her. The night light caressed her profile, and for an instant, Sonic felt he was observing a memory.

He approached slowly. When he spoke, his voice came out with an unintentional softness, almost a whisper.

—Hey, Ames.

Amy turned, surprised, her eyes shining for a second, reflecting the light.

—Sonic? —Her smile was sweet, genuine, but faint—. I didn't think you'd come up.

The breeze was light, and the sound of the music reached them muffled, as if it belonged to another world. Sonic stopped a couple of steps away, close enough to feel her residual warmth, but not so close that he would have to justify his proximity.

She watched him with that look that had once been so easy for him to read... and which now seemed like a closed book that he was afraid to open.

—I just needed some air —she said, resting her arms on the cold railing.

Sonic nodded, though it wasn't an answer. He leaned beside her, maintaining a small space between them. Not too big. Not too small. A space laden with unspoken words.

—I missed these kinds of gatherings a lot —she expressed, without looking at him. —Yeah —Sonic replied, in a low voice—. I'm glad I came.

The last sentence came out more honest than he had planned. Amy blinked, perceiving his tone. She didn't say anything at first. She just took a deep breath.

—I'm glad too —she murmured, and her voice sounded made of something fragile, yet unbreakable.

The silence that followed wasn't comfortable, nor tense. It was dense, heavy. As if the air itself was about to break into flames.

Sonic glanced sideways at her. The warm light delineated Amy's profile, soft, almost ethereal. But it was when he looked directly at her that he noticed: silent tears were sliding down her cheeks. She didn't even seem aware of them.

—Amy... —he murmured, confusion and fear mixed in his voice. He cautiously placed a hand on her shoulder. —Don't touch me —The phrase struck him. Amy recoiled from his hand with an abruptness that held no hatred, only pain. Pain in her voice.

Sonic felt his heart stop.

—Amy, what's wrong?

She looked at him. And that look truly hurt. It was accusatory, and at the same time, devastated.

—Why did you come up here? —she asked. Her voice was sharp, hurtful, but on the verge of breaking.

Sonic opened his mouth, but the words got stuck.

—I came back after five years —she continued, her voice grazing the edge of anger—. Five damned years, Sonic. And all I get from you is... nothing.

Her breathing became shaky.

—I was watching you all night. Waiting for you to approach. To talk to me. To... —her throat closed up in a knot of frustration— to hug me, at least. But it was like I didn't exist. As if you didn't remember me.

Sonic felt guilt rise like a burning sensation behind his back.

—The reason I stayed at this party —Amy continued, her voice now broken— was to see if at some point you would come looking for me. And you didn't.

—I wasn't ignoring you —Sonic finally replied, urgently, though without raising his voice—. Amy... I just didn't know how to talk to you. I didn't know what to say. That's why I came up. To be alone. I wanted to talk to you...

Amy looked at him with bright, wet, exhausted eyes.

—Why? —she asked.

Sonic swallowed. He opened his mouth. He closed it again. Even with the alcohol urging him on, he couldn't find the precise word. He couldn't find the courage.

Amy laughed, barely, a small, desperate sound.

—Just say it. That you don't want to see me. That you don't care about me anymore... That you hate me...

—Amy —his voice came out hoarse, but firm, undeniable—, I could never hate you.

Sonic realized, then, that she had drunk more than she appeared to. Her cheeks were flushed. Her breathing was shallow. But her words... her words were sober. Too sincere.

—You didn't even look at me —she whispered—. I just wanted... you to notice me.

Sonic moved closer. Very slowly. Like someone approaching something that could break with the wrong movement.

—Ames... —he said, with a sweetness he didn't recognize in his own voice—. I was always looking at you.

Amy lifted her face. Her eyes were open oceans. Vulnerable. Undeniable.

Sonic raised a hand, and this time, Amy didn't pull away.

He wiped her tears with his thumb. Slowly. Almost reverently. She trembled.

He wrapped his arms around her. Not with urgency, nor with guilt. But with a need that had been simmering for five years. A hug that seemed to have been waiting.

Amy broke against his chest. She buried her face, allowing the relief to shake her.

And Sonic, his heart beating in a way he had never known before, murmured against her quills:

—You have no idea how much I've missed you.

He confessed with sincere nostalgia, and, without letting go, he slid one of his hands from her back to the nape of her neck, stroking her soft quills with reverence. It was a gesture he hadn't allowed in years, but which now felt like the only place he belonged.

—Besides, I told you to tell me everything when you came back —he added, pulling her back very slightly so he could look at her. His green eyes were laden with a firm tenderness—. Think about it, Ames. I wouldn't have come here with you, alone, if I didn't care.

Tears had welled up again beneath the hedgehog's eyelids. She buried her face, allowing the emotional release to shake her.

There was a silence. It wasn't dense now, but protective. They both clung to each other, taking refuge in the warm embrace they had formed.

—... I tried to forget you —Amy whispered. The sentence came out broken, almost inaudible amidst her residual tears.

Sonic frowned, leaning toward her.

—What?

Amy pressed her lips together, swallowing air, as if speaking required physical effort.

—I tried to get over you —she finally said, her voice trembling—. I hurt someone who didn't deserve it...

She clung to him more tightly, her body shaking against his.

—I met a friend during my trip —she continued—. He... he fell in love with me. And I dated him just to stop thinking about you. —Her voice broke in a muffled sob—. To forget you.

The confession dropped like a stone into an still lake.

Sonic remained motionless. Not out of indifference, but because he didn't know how to move without breaking the moment, but he kept listening, his breathing held.

—I hurt him —Amy said—. He hates me now. And I understand why... —Her breathing became a soft, anguished gasp—. Because I could never stop thinking about you.

The silence was almost absolute. The blue hedgehog was astonished by the nakedness of her words.

Knowing that she had spent so much time suffering, and even trying to force herself to forget him, formed a painful knot in his throat. Just the thought of it hurt.

—Sonic... —Amy lifted her face. Her eyes were wide, a vulnerable frankness that hurt to see—. I always had you on my mind. I could never forget you. —Her voice dropped to barely a thread—. I'm still madly in love with you despite everything...

The truth sank into him, heavy and unstoppable.

His heart flipped so violently that he felt pain. His body, accustomed to immediate action, didn't know how to react to something so grand, so expected, so feared.

His breath caught. His chest rose and fell with desperate force.

He couldn't say anything. The voice wouldn't come out.

A wave of silent heat consumed him. Every muscle tensed, frozen. The truth, awaited in the darkness of his fears, had hit him harder than any enemy punch. It wasn't just the declaration that paralyzed him; it was the echo of his own cowardice reflected in Amy's story.

She had suffered because of him. She had tried to force herself to forget the unforgettable.

The knot of guilt he had felt at the foot of the stairs became a real knot, tightening his diaphragm. Amy's words—the confession about the other guy, the pain she inflicted—revealed the collateral devastation of his own inability to commit. He, the hero who always saved the world from tyrants, hadn't been able to save the only person who loved him without asking for anything in return. And by running, he had pushed her into a desperation that led her to hurt a third party.

He felt sick. His fear of not being enough to sustain that love, his fear of "breaking something beautiful," had ended up breaking her in a much crueler way than a simple rejection.

He looked at Amy, who was still clinging to him, her face flushed and tear-streaked. She was no longer the vulnerable, teenage Amy who chased him; she was a woman who had lived, matured, made difficult decisions, and who returned bearing the scars of the war she had waged against herself.

The alcohol had made him honest with his friends, but it hadn't made him brave. Facing Amy, the purity of her feelings made his ability to speak vanish. It was as if the weight of a lifetime of evasion had concentrated in that moment, sealing his lips.

How could he explain it? How could he tell her that he hadn't gone five years without thinking about her? How could he confess that Amy Rose had always been his only weakness, the one he was afraid to approach?

Since their first encounter, Amy had been the most beautiful chaos in his perfectly chaotic life. She was home, his destiny. Her affection was not a burden; it was a gravitational force so intense it threatened to halt his eternal run. He wasn't running from her; he ran because she existed. He ran to be worthy of the stillness she represented.

And that's why he had pushed her away: because her love was the only thing in the universe he couldn't control. It was the ultimate vulnerability.

Now, she was right there, broken against him, confessing her devotion, and Sonic couldn't articulate a single sentence. His mind was a hurricane, but his voice was drowned out.

The silence stretched until it became unbearable. Amy pulled back slightly from his chest, her blurred eyes searching for his in the gloom. She looked tired, exhausted by the honesty imposed by the drink.

Despite the trembling on her lips and the moisture on her cheeks, a smile broke through. It wasn't the radiant smile he knew, but a fragile, resigned, yet completely sincere grimace.

—You don't have to say anything, Sonic. It's okay —she murmured, her breath smelling of liquor and despair.

She closed the minimal distance remaining between them, rising slightly onto the tips of her toes. Her eyes fixed on his with an intensity that was no longer demanding, but offered.

—I love you —Amy said, without permission, without thinking, her voice broken by alcohol and emotion.

It wasn't a question or a plea. It was a fact. The naked, brutal truth he had always avoided, spoken by its owner at the worst possible moment.

The effect was instantaneous and devastating. A shiver ran down Sonic's spine. Amy's "I love you," so intoxicated, so vulnerable, sounded more definitive than any oath.

The blow to his stomach was physical. Sonic's body went rigid, his breath stopped completely, and his eyes widened with a mixture of panic and utter astonishment.

What do you do? his internal voice screamed, desperate. Say something!

But Sonic was paralyzed. He couldn't move, or breathe, or speak. He could only feel the weight of that word, of that love, falling onto the balcony, stopping his entire world.

The initial paralysis wasn't just astonishment; it was the surrender of a long-held fortress.

Amy's eyes, wet and pleading, looked at him with a mixture of challenge and exhaustion. There was no reproach, just the raw truth of her soul. And in that gaze, Sonic saw the reflection of his own fears, his flights, all the words he had swallowed for years. He saw the weight of what he had done to her and the pain she had carried.

The alcohol hummed, but it no longer served as an excuse for the silence. Sonic's throat remained knotted, the words still trapped, but a new, fierce urgency took hold of him. He couldn't speak. He never could. His way of communicating had always been through actions.

This was the moment. The moment he had avoided for a lifetime.

There was no manual. There was only Amy, her pain, and her unconditional love, delivered without reservation.

His gaze dropped from Amy's eyes to her lips, which trembled slightly. They were not lips that demanded, but that waited. And in that waiting, in that expectant stillness, Sonic found his answer.

He leaned in.

It was a slow, almost solemn movement, despite the urgency burning inside him. His eyes never left hers. Amy didn't move. She just stood there, letting the distance erase centimeter by centimeter.

The sweet, floral scent of her hair enveloped him. The soft warmth of her breath, with the faint smell of liquor, caressed his face.

And then, their lips met.

It wasn't a sudden crash, but a soft confluence, uncertain at first. Sonic's lips, which had run a thousand battles and tasted a thousand breezes, rested on Amy's with a delicacy he didn't know he possessed. It was a kiss that sought not unbridled passion, but deep understanding.

In that touch, Sonic poured everything he couldn't say. In that kiss, there was guilt, regret, and the relief of a mutual confession. But above all, there was the unspoken "I love you," the recognition that his wandering heart had always belonged to this woman.

Amy's lips responded with a trembling but determined softness. It was a sigh, a silent moan of release. Her hands, which had previously clung to him in desperation, now slid to the nape of his neck, her fingers tangling in the blue hedgehog's soft quills.

The kiss deepened, not by intensity of force, but by depth of emotion. It was a kiss that erased five years of absence, that mended silent wounds. It was the first kiss of their lives, the climax of an infinite wait, the answer to a question he had never dared to answer.

When they finally separated, only by millimeters, their foreheads still pressed together, Amy's eyes were closed.

Sonic looked at her, his own breath ragged. His lips buzzed with the sensation of the contact. Still without saying a word.

Amy slowly opened her eyes, revealing a brightness he hadn't seen in years. There was surprise, a hint of disbelief, but most of all, a profound peace. A small, genuine smile curved her swollen lips.

—Sonic... —she murmured, her voice barely a thread, still heavy with the emotion of the release.

Amy didn't wait, didn't think. She propelled herself forward, closing the slight distance between them, and kissed him again. This time, she took control.

Her kiss was different. She closed her eyes tightly, her lips pressing against his with an intensity that carried the emotion of long years of absence and a love that had not extinguished. Her hands left Sonic's neck to strongly cup his face, pulling him toward her with a delicious desperation, as if she feared that if she let go for an instant, he would speed up and disappear again.

Surprise shot through Sonic's body like an electric current. The first kiss had been an act of apology and confession; this one was the declaration of war from a love that refused to die. Amy's passion, which had once been a childlike motor, was now a mature, deep, and hungry force that caught him off guard.

The blue hedgehog felt an uncontrolled shudder, a wave of raw heat that ran from the crown of his head. It was the raw sensation of desire, mixed with the gratitude of a soul finding its peace. For the first time, instead of speeding up, his body fully anchored itself to the sensation of her. His arms instinctively wrapped around Amy's waist, pulling her even closer, the fabric of her dress yielding under the firm pressure of his hands.

The kiss grew deeper, wetter, more desperate. Their breaths merged, becoming short and ragged. The outside world—the distant music, the amber lights, the cold of the night—faded. Only they existed, and the minimal space their bodies occupied.

Sonic felt the heat of her body through the clothes, the soft curve of her hips, and a low, rough groan formed deep in his throat, muffled by the kiss.

Amy felt the response of his body, the firmness of his grip, the passion that now matched her own. She leaned back against the balcony, using Sonic as her support, allowing the kiss to consume them. Every touch of their lips was an oath, every caress an unspoken word.

She pulled back just for a few seconds to catch a breath, her lips swollen from the contact, her eyes closed. Then, she sought his mouth again.

Sonic yielded completely, forgetting guilt, fear, and words. The hedgehog responded to Amy's kiss with an intensity that made her gasp. He held her firmly by the waist, lifting her slightly to anchor her against the balcony railing. The cold metal contrasted with the rising heat between them. Their mouths separated only to grab desperate gulps of air.

Amy ran her hands over Sonic's torso, feeling the tense muscles beneath his fur. It was the hero's body, strong and agile, that had saved her countless times. Now that body was there, still for her, surrendering to a mutual desire. Her fingers ran softly over his peach-colored chest with a growing eagerness.

Sonic deepened the kiss, his hands ascending her back, pausing just beneath her shoulders before descending again to the curve of her hips. The clothing felt like an irritating barrier. Amy's short dress, which had seemed alluring before, was now a torture, marking the skin he longed to touch.

He was weakened by the alcohol and the emotion of the moment; he only wanted to have her.

The blue hedgehog pulled back for a second, their foreheads touching, their noses brushing. His green eyes were dark, lit by a fire Amy had never seen.

—Ames —his voice came out as a rough growl, the first word he managed to utter, loaded with a primal need. His body pressed completely against hers—. God, Ames...

She could only respond with a low moan, feeling excited to hear her nickname in that tone. She sought his mouth again, but this time, Sonic stopped the kiss with an unexpected sweetness. Instead, he placed slow, burning kisses along her jawline, on the curve of her neck, feeling Amy's accelerated pulse beneath his lips.

Amy's body arched, and she tilted her head back, giving him access. Feeling Sonic's mouth made her gasp, her legs trembling. She clung to his shoulders, lost in the sensation, the desire burning away any lingering shyness.

Sonic's hands moved, bolder now. One of them went up under the edge of her short dress, finding Amy's soft thigh. The contact with her bare skin was a mutual jolt. Amy smothered a moan into his shoulder, surprise and desire uniting.

"This... this is perhaps too much," a small voice tried to warn the blue one, but it was drowned out by the intensity of the moment.

Sonic felt the limit, the edge of a precipice that was beautiful and terrifying. The adrenaline of speed did not compare to the thrill of this stillness, of this deep connection. His desire was intense, but Amy's vulnerability in that moment imposed an instinctive brake. He had promised himself not to break her further.

His hand stopped, and with a visible effort, Sonic separated himself from her, leaning back against the railing, his breathing trembling. His face was flushed, his quills slightly ruffled.

Amy blinked, returning to reality, feeling the cool air on her neck and the tingle where he had touched her. She looked at him, her eyes wide with passion.

—Sonic? —she questioned, her voice choked.

He shook his head, his eyes fixed on hers, full of a palpable desire, but also a newfound awareness.

—Not here, Amy —Sonic said, his voice still hoarse, but with a shade of control—. I need... I need us to talk first. But not like this. And no, definitely, I don't want to do it here.

He tried not to sound like a rejection, but rather conscious of the moment's importance.

Amy understood. She nodded, feeling the blush rise in her cheeks. The desire was still there, a hot pulse. She smoothed her dress, though she knew the gesture was futile, and bit her lip, looking at Sonic with a fresh shyness.

Sonic felt the impact of the newly installed shyness in her. The Amy who had just kissed him with an adult eagerness now bit her lip, her face flushed with contained emotion, and her large emerald eyes avoided holding his gaze completely. The liquor still hovered in the slight moisture of her eyes and her shallow breathing, but the desperate frankness had given way to a tenderness that felt dangerously sweet to him.

"God, she is so Amy," he thought, feeling a lurch in his chest for the third time that night. That mix of overwhelming passion and sudden modesty dismantled him completely. He wanted to close the space he himself had imposed, to take her again and immerse himself in the sensation of her body yielding; he wished to drown his remorse in that contact, to prolong the first genuine kiss of their lives. But just as he was about to speak, the evidence of Amy's state restrained him with the force of a retaining wall.

It wasn't a fair deal for either of them. If Amy was going to receive the truth of his heart, she deserved to receive it without the veil of liquor over her mind; and he needed to articulate his reasons without the watered-down honesty the alcohol had lent him. He yearned for this to be a stable foundation, not a drunken, rushed confession.

Sonic inhaled deeply, feeling the sharp, early-morning air in his lungs, and prepared to break the silence with a practical phrase.

—I'm cold —Amy interrupted in a whisper, curling up slightly, her arms crossing over her chest as a reflex gesture of self-preservation.

Sonic blinked, shaking the hot haze of desire from his head. The cold. Of course. They were on a balcony, barely sheltered, at the coldest hour of the night.

Amy's simple statement brought him back to reality with a wave of pragmatism. She had cried and drunk; her body was exhausted by the emotional release.

Sonic straightened up completely, scanning the hallway that led back to the party with an efficiency his brain usually reserved for battle strategies. The alcohol and the enormity of what had just happened demanded to be urgently processed.

He saw a dark, slightly ajar door at the opposite end. A guest room, probably.

—Come on, we need to find a warm spot. You need to clear your head and rest for a moment —Sonic said, his voice regaining its usual tone, though still tinged with seriousness.

Amy looked at him, and her eyes reflected a fleeting moment of dismay, the latent fear that he was running away again.

Sonic caught the signal instantly.

—I'm not leaving, Ames —he assured her, his voice soft but resolute. He reached out his hand, and this time took hers with an unmistakable gesture of protection—. We'd better save our important conversation for when we're not so drunk. Okay? I want to talk to you tomorrow, and this time without liquor.

Amy nodded slowly, allowing herself to be led. The silence that re-established between them was no longer dense. It was more of a truce heavy with expectation.

The blue hedgehog led her to the guest room, feeling the tremor in her hand and her slightly unstable gait. Upon arriving, Sonic opened the door and turned on a small bedside lamp. It was a functional space, with a large bed and immaculate sheets.

—Stay here, Ames —he said, guiding her toward the bed. He helped her sit down—. I'm going to bring you some water. And I'll stay right here until you fall asleep.

He took one of the blankets from the foot of the bed and wrapped it around Amy's shoulders. The sudden warmth made her sigh.

As he headed for the door, Amy stopped him with a light touch on his wrist.

—Sonic —she murmured—. Thank you.

He didn't look at her. He only squeezed her hand lightly in response. He couldn't look at her. If he did, the plan for the "sober conversation tomorrow" would instantly disintegrate under the weight of his desire.

—I'll be right back —Sonic said, leaving and closing the door behind him.

Outside, he leaned against the wood, inhaling and exhaling, feeling his heart pound furiously in his chest. Desire, guilt, affection, and the promise of a future were woven into a knot that he could only untie with words.

Sonic moved away from the door and headed to the kitchen with the necessary caution not to arouse suspicion. He filled a large glass with lukewarm water and returned.

When he opened the door, he found her exactly where he had left her. Amy was sitting on the edge of the bed, wrapped in the blanket, her figure hunched under the dim light. To his surprise, he found her visibly downcast; the intensity of the intoxication and the emotional release had evaporated, leaving only a deep vulnerability. The spontaneous smile, that attribute that had always been her trademark, was absent.

Sonic approached slowly and offered her the glass.

—Drink this, Ames. It will help.

Amy accepted the glass with trembling hands, nodding silently. She took a long sip, without looking at him. The action was mechanical, devoid of the sparkle of life that Sonic had drawn from their kiss just minutes earlier.

The blue hedgehog felt a sharp pang in his chest. He sat down beside her, on the edge of the bed, maintaining a careful distance. The closeness, nonetheless, felt immense.

Remorse rose in his throat again with a bitter taste.

The idea that he was the genesis of Amy's sadness, the other guy's pain, and the five years of emptiness, struck him with the force of a meteor. For an instant, his mind, agitated by liquor and emotion, began to conjure images of all the times he had abandoned her, that he had refused to embrace the affection she professed for him. He felt an asphyxiating pressure, on the verge of a crisis of regret.

But just as the need to apologize became an inarticulable knot, Amy spoke again, pulling him out of his negative spiral. She kept her eyes fixed on the glass of water she held with both hands, as if it were the most transcendent object in the universe.

—Do you love me? —she asked in a murmur that barely scratched the silence. Her voice was barely a thread, yet perfectly clear in its meaning. A small pause, and then, with the same muted voice— Or why did you kiss me?

The question perplexed him. The air got stuck in his lungs. It was a question so elemental, so fundamental, that the answer seemed more complex than saving the planet. How could he articulate the reason for a feeling he had evaded for his entire existence? The word 'love' (querer) felt too vast, too permanent for a hedgehog who barely understood its concept.

He remained silent, his mind a whirlwind. Lie? Impossible. Tell the complete truth? He still couldn't.

He didn't kiss her out of pity, it wasn't just appetite. It was a surrender. It was the only way to tell her yes, that she was important.

Finally, the conclusion came, simple and pure, devoid of the verb 'to love' (amar), but heavy with intent.

—I just followed what I felt —Sonic said, his voice sounding rough from the dryness in his throat.

Amy did not reply, she just kept looking at the water.

Sonic felt the declaration was insufficient, a half-measure on his part. He needed to consolidate the action. He forced himself to extend the declaration, noting how his own honesty made him tremble.

—It came to me to do it —he continued, his voice firm now. He paused briefly, looking at her profile, at her exposed vulnerability—. Although, frankly, it was something I've wanted to do for a long time...

His last phrase, spoken softly, floated in the air between the warmth of his guilt and the cold of the night. The admission of a desire repressed for years, the acknowledgment that she had always been the pending end of his trajectory.

Amy lifted her head very slightly, still not looking at him, but her breathing became perceptible. It seemed that, finally, a small part of the heaviness had been removed from her shoulders.

Slowly, Amy placed the glass of water aside, on the bedside table. The sound of glass on wood resonated in the silence. Then, for the first time since they had entered the room, she looked at him directly. Her gaze was no longer one of reproach or devastation, but attentive and curious. A small, yet genuine, smile formed on her lips, and the familiar spark, that flash of life and mischief he had missed so much, rekindled in her eyes.

—Have you always wanted to kiss me?

The question, phrased with that mix of youthful frankness and adult awareness that only Amy possessed, shook Sonic. His heart, already pounding wildly, seemed to skip a beat. He concentrated intensely on maintaining his composure, on formulating an answer that didn't sound like the stammering capitulation he felt. The attempt was futile.

—Well... y-yes, of course, but I also mean... yes to the other thing, about loving you, y-yes.

His voice sounded hopelessly nervous and clumsy at the same time. The sound of his own stuttering and the silent laugh of embarrassment he felt internally made his face flush. In that instant, he felt ridiculous and vulnerable with an intensity he had never experienced on the battlefield.

Sonic thought that Amy always managed this. She had always been the only person in the universe capable of disarming him, of stripping him of his control and his facade of the unperturbed hero. She was the only one who made him feel like an insecure, clumsy, and, yes, deeply moved teenager because of her.

—Do you want to kiss me again? —Amy spoke again, in a low but sweet voice, as if offering a secret under the dim light.

The question left him even more paralyzed. Sonic looked at her with complete astonishment. A strong blush rose to his face, heating his quills to the roots. He observed Amy: her eyes were narrowed, loving, and with a desire so perceptible that he could see the force of the emotion driving her. She was so tender in her question and so magnetic in her maturity that the mixture was driving him crazy. He felt that at any moment his internal mechanisms would explode.

In a low voice, barely a murmur of acceptance and longing.

—Yes...

Still looking at him with that expression of desire, Amy did not wait a second. She leaned across the space separating them on the bed. She brought her face closer to his, gently sealing her lips against Sonic's.

Sonic reciprocated without thinking, the last trace of his self-control crumbling at the simple certainty of her mouth. He kissed her slowly, still overwhelmed by the avalanche of feelings, but this time he returned the kiss with a newfound tenderness, one that was the antithesis of his usual speed.

As their lips moved, the kiss became deeper and more sincere. Sweetness soon gave way to a pressing need. The kisses grew more passionate, more desperate, loaded with the weight of the wait. Sonic, feeling Amy's warmth, the firmness of her embrace, completely ignored the voice of his conscience reminding him of the situation. Nonetheless, in that instant, there was only the urgency of having Amy; the pure desire he had denied for an entire lifetime.

His hands moved instinctively. Sonic's arms fully encircled her, drawing her until their bodies merged in a firm, unreserved contact. The embrace became an axis, a center of gravity that made the outside world disappear. Amy gasped against his mouth, and her own hands gripped Sonic's neck, pulling him into a more intense kiss. The air became short and ragged between them.

The blue hedgehog broke the kiss only to slide his lips to the curve of her neck. He began to kiss her along the jawline, savoring the faint trace of liquor and the sweet scent of her quills. The blue one began to place wet kisses along Amy's neck with a consuming intensity, gently sucking and brushing her chin with the tip of his tongue.

Amy, her head slightly thrown back, began to gasp more clearly, surrendering to the sensation. They were guttural sounds, small moans that were a mixture of pleasure, relief, and surprise.

Every one of those gasps was pure fuel for Sonic. The sound drove him insane. Amy's passion, that open heart that had always been a part of her personality, which now gratefully expressed her pleasure, made him lose the last vestige of control. He felt proud to be the reason for her pleasure.

His hand, which had risen to caress her face, sank into the nape of her neck, holding her with a firmness that was not dominant, but desperate.

He felt the soft texture of her quills against his fingers, the accelerated pulse beneath her skin, the urgency of her breathing. Everything about her screamed more, and for the first time in his life, Sonic longed to be consumed by her.

Amy's short dress wrinkled beneath his hands as he pulled her even closer against his chest. Sonic continued placing his kisses on Amy's neck, his own breathing ragged and forced. He felt her move, a lazy but deliberate gesture. She clung to him more tightly, and with a voice that was both surrendered and excited, still with her slightly alcoholic breath, she whispered a single word: "Take me..."

Simultaneously, Amy hugged him with her legs, wrapping her thighs around his waist with a softness that made him tremble. The unexpected contact of her skin caused almost an electric shock, eliminating any remaining rational thought in the blue hedgehog's mind.

Sonic didn't think twice, and complied with her wish. His breath stopped for a second, feeling the weight and pressure of her body against his. He inhaled her scent in the hollow of her neck as he spoke, his own voice a rough growl of desire that he did not recognize.

—Okay, because I'm not stopping.

—I don't want you to stop —Amy immediately replied, her voice muffled by urgency, a total surrender to the emotion.

The control, the promise, the pending conversation; everything vanished under the intensity of the moment. Sonic dropped his weight onto her, kissing her on the mouth with a new eagerness, one that was not just physical, but a thirst to recover lost time and seal the truth they had just confessed. He kissed her with a passion that contained the weight of all his years of flight, his cowardice, and his unacknowledged affection.

Amy responded to the kiss with absolute surrender, her lips moving against his with a familiarity that felt strangely right. Sonic's hands left her waist to find the edge of the short dress. His touch was slow and deliberate, an ascending caress on her thigh that made Amy gasp against his mouth.

Sonic squeezed the soft fabric of Amy's dress between his fingers, and with a quick, though trembling, movement, he slid his hand further up, finding the soft curve of her hip. Her pink fur.

The world kept spinning, but for them, the rotation had stopped at that instant of breakthrough and realization.

Feeling her soft fur beneath his own hands was a sensation so captivating, so warm and smooth, just as he had imagined during his years of lonely pursuit.

The contact of his hand ascended slowly, caressing the hedgehog's abdomen, an action that made her slightly shiver and tremble. Sonic looked up and found an inextinguishable fire in Amy's eyes, a yearning that only called to him. The hedgehog knew he would explode if he kept looking at her that way.

His lips left the sensitive skin of her neck and descended toward the curve of her shoulder, a paused path but laden with intense need. He continued his journey downward, deliberately approaching her chest, while absorbing the tender sighs of his beloved.

Amy noticed Sonic's hand, still holding the edge of her dress, a pressure that denoted the imperious need to strip her of the garment, and she understood his silent intention.

—Give me a moment...— she murmured, and with a fluidity that showed a new self-assurance, she straightened slightly, pulled up her dress, and took it off completely, exposed before him only in light-colored underwear.

Sonic was left without a clear vocabulary to describe what was before him. The visual impact was so direct that he felt a sudden tingle run through his entire body, concentrating particularly in his lower region. A wave of heat rose to his face, tingeing his quills with a fiery blush.

Amy looked at him, and although her eyes showed a hint of shyness, a contained laugh escaped her lips when she saw Sonic's expression. He felt a pang of embarrassment, convinced he had put on the face of a goofy, completely smitten teenager.

—Could you... continue? —Amy inquired, with a slightly trembling sweetness but a frank eagerness, pointing with her finger to the exact spot where he had interrupted his exploration. — I love when you kiss me like that...

The way Amy invited him, that balance between plea and command, made Sonic's pulse race. This hedgehog was going to drive him insane. A smile of challenge and flirtation spread across the hero's face.

—I will only do it if you tell me where you want me to place my kisses... —he spoke with a deliberately rough, low, and husky voice, seeking to provoke an even more intimate response. He wanted to draw out the moment; he wished to play with the tension she had so masterfully created.

Amy looked at him in surprise, revealing a vivid blush that spread over her face up to the roots of her pink quills. Slowly, a playful smile, laden with awareness of her power, formed on her lips.

—You already know where —she spoke in a low, tentative voice, but with a hint of challenge. She narrowed her eyes, fixing her gaze on him—. Kiss me as you were just now, wherever you most desire.

Sonic felt the pang of desire. The tingle that had begun in his lower region turned into a throbbing urgency. She had returned the challenge, forcing him to choose and, therefore, to confess his own need without words. He observed her mischievously, noticing the barely perceptible tremor on Amy's lower lip; she was as excited as he was by this power game.

—I have a very wide repertoire of possibilities, but my appetite is to hear you name the location. —Sonic spoke again, bringing his face closer to hers with premeditated slowness, his seductive gaze held an intensity that even surprised Amy, who had never seen him so completely exposed—. Tell me the exact coordinate, Ames.

The use of her nickname, pronounced with that intimate, husky voice, was the real thrust. Amy felt the air run out of her lungs at the intensity with which Sonic looked at her, a look that transcended physical appetite and became an exploration of the soul.

She, who had always been the direct one, now hesitated. Sonic's game was working: it forced her to verbalize the surrender, an act more vulnerable than the simple kiss. Her face flushed even more, and Sonic realized she was struggling to maintain composure.

—Here... —she murmured, her voice barely a whisper that cracked. She brought her hand to the fabric of her bra, right where one of her breasts was covered, the most sensitive skin he had explored minutes earlier. Her eyes were a mix of plea and ardor, she slowly moved the fabric to reveal more of her breast—. Don't make me say it. Just... kiss me.

The surrender was total. It was the point where her vulnerability met her need. It was no longer a game; she was pleading for more.

Sonic could resist no longer. The last sliver of his self-control vanished. The need to speak was replaced by an urgency that left him no time for rational thought.

He lunged toward her, not abruptly, but with a centripetal force. He kissed the exact spot she had pointed to while slowly pulling back the fabric, gently sucking the skin, feeling Amy's racing pulse beneath his lips. At the same time, he slid his hands down Amy's waist, with no fabric in the way, and lifted her slightly, pulling her even closer to his body, seeking a seamless contact.

Amy clung to his shoulders with a deep, guttural moan, her body vibrating under the pressure of the affection she had waited a lifetime for. Unconsciously, she began to move her hips against Sonic's, an intuitive movement that provoked a deep growl of pleasure and focus in her lover.

—You're going to drive me crazy if you keep moving like that...— Sonic managed to articulate, his voice now a dense murmur laden with desire, pressed against her skin.

While Sonic remained focused on her, fervently kissing the area of her cleavage, his hand slid with a clear intention behind her back, seeking the clasp of the intimate garment. He raised his gaze to Amy in expectant silence, asking for her consent to go further. She responded with a smile that was half longing and half challenge, nodding with an unmistakable urgency.

The blue hedgehog released the bra clasp with the dexterity his agility allowed and slowly slid the fabric out of their field of vision. The act of removing the garment was a gesture of mutual trust, fully revealing her breasts to his eyes. They were soft shapes, perfectly proportioned for him, a spectacle of natural beauty that stole his breath. In the dim light, Amy looked like a classical figure, a vision that anchored him to the bed with a force more powerful than any chain.

He brought his hand to the soft contour of one of her bare breasts, kneading it with an instinctive delicacy, while maintaining his concentration on the hedgehog's reactions. The sounds that flowed from Amy were captivating murmurs of ecstasy, and Sonic observed how her body arched toward him, seeking more contact. He admitted to himself that the sight of Amy, totally surrendered and writhing in pleasure, was profoundly attractive.

Sonic descended his path of kisses over the region of her breasts, his affection a warm, moist trail. Then, a bold and tempting idea crossed his mind. His eyes fixed on his lover's nipple. With a decision that was the sum of all his self-control, he sealed the small circle with his lips, sucking gently. The intensity of the act provoked a sharp gasp from Amy, almost a choked cry.

—God, Sonic! —she exclaimed, the name pronounced with a mixture of astonishment and euphoria.

Sonic pulled back barely a few millimeters, his green eyes shining with triumph and affection.

—Did you like it?

—Y-yes... keep going, please... —Amy pleaded, her voice trembling with emotion. Her hands clung to his quills, pulling him toward that sensation that had revealed an unexpected pleasure.

Sonic persisted in his delight, kneading her breast with one hand, while with the other he delicately sucked the exposed nipple, tracing the areola with the tip of his tongue. He was absorbed in the task of maximizing her enjoyment. He felt her continue to arch her body toward him, moving her hips with a constant, rhythmic friction against his, a movement that brought him to the brink of madness.

Amy did not stop moaning and whispering Sonic's name, a litany that begged for the continuation of the pleasure. She slid her hand over the nape of the hedgehog's neck, pulling him with firm pressure toward her chest, communicating her desire for him not to stop.

Sonic was completely subjugated by Amy's sounds, by the cadence with which she pronounced his name, by the way she pressed her body in search of a more intense sensation. His hand, which had been stroking the hedgehog's thighs, gently ventured upwards. Unconsciously, he moved toward her most sensitive and protected area: her crotch.

The contact, though subtle, was a shock. Amy gasped with a tremor that ran through her body, a shiver so pronounced that it made Sonic stop immediately, alarmed.

—F-Forgive me, Amy, I got carried away... I... —Sonic said, feeling the guilt rise again as quickly as his arousal. He feared he had crossed a line without permission, returning for an instant to his old dynamic of fearing he would break her.

—N-No, it's okay, I want you to continue. Please. —Amy instantly interrupted him, her voice a perfect blend of sweetness and longing. Her hand rested on his, guiding it with a determination that dispelled any doubt.

The hedgehog's affirmation was a balm to the blue one's conscience. There was no longer any need for uncertain words. Her acquiescence was active and evident. Her touch, her voice, everything confirmed her readiness. She wasn't shying away from intimacy; she was receiving it with open arms. He experienced a profound relief, knowing he hadn't spoiled the moment or caused fear. She was ready. And he, completely surrendered to the situation, was too.

—I want to do this with you —the young woman expressed again, with an honesty tinged with sweet anticipation.

—Are you sure? —he asked, his voice barely a whisper of respect amidst the whirlwind of emotion.

—Yes —she murmured softly. She tilted her face toward him with a provocative and sensual look, and brought her hand to the firmness of his abdomen—. Touch me...

The way she pleaded with him shook him to his core. He restrained himself no longer and sealed his lips against hers again. The kiss was an amalgamation of unbridled passion and a newfound tenderness, a tacit promise of the depth of his affection.

His hands caressed and exerted deliberate pressure on the young woman's thighs, a touch that drew out silenced gasps during the kiss. As they explored each other's mouths, her tongue brushed the hedgehog's lips, an explicit invitation that he accepted without hesitation. He captured her tongue in a French kiss that became a fervent declaration of his devotion.

His hands continued to pay homage to the hedgehog's figure, appreciating every contour. Subtly, one of his hands descended toward the area he had touched accidentally before. He passed his palm carefully over that intimate place, still covered by her last garment. The caress was gentle, trying to be patient and not impetuous, analyzing his partner's response in detail.

A moan resonated in the kiss again, and the young woman briefly separated, leaving a thin thread of saliva connecting their lips. Her voice again broke the silence, resonating with a mix of pleasure and adoration at the actions he was carrying out. Subtly, his fingers had squeezed her most sensitive spot.

—S-Sonic! —she exclaimed.

He placed a soft, sweet kiss on her cheek, continuing the hypnotic rhythm of his caresses in her intimate zone. —I love it when you say my name like that.

The movements of his fingers over the last barrier of cloth became more chiseled and rhythmic, a precise cadence that caused the young woman to lift her hips in an instinctive movement, seeking a more intimate and deep contact. The sight of the scene, the way desire consumed her, provoked a sharp pang in the hedgehog's lower region, where arousal had formed a burning pressure. An erection. A part of him screamed to claim her completely, to make her his immediately, such was the intensity with which he found her desirable. However, the other part, the newly acquired maturity, demanded a reverent patience.

The hedgehog could no longer bear the tension. With a gesture of liberating audacity, she surprised the hero by removing the last garment covering her. She slid out of the cloth, becoming completely unclothed before him.

Upon perceiving the fullness of her figure, the hedgehog almost felt his mouth dry up in astonishment. He realized he was staring at her, with an expression of stunned ecstasy.

—Damn, Ames —he paused.— You are... beautiful —he murmured, his voice husky with disarming honesty, unable to articulate a more complex phrase before such beauty.

The young woman did not grant him time for more words. She captured his lips again with a voracity that grew without limits, a passion that was the sum of all their years of waiting. The kiss was a fusion, a pact that erased the past and anchored them to the urgent present.

As both merged in the passion that had culminated in their kiss, the hedgehog slowly positioned himself over her. His hand traced the young woman's body with a softness mixed with pressing need, memorizing every curve and the silky texture of her naked skin. She pulled him closer with her arms encircling his neck. He admitted that, in the past, he had fantasized about the hedgehog in his solitude, repressing this longing with all his strength. Now he felt immense gratitude for having her there, submitted only to his affection.

Their pelvises aligned instinctively, and he began to move them, brushing against her inner thigh. She responded to this friction with a choked gasp, raising her hips to intensify the sensation, as he moved with a passionate but considerate rhythm. The hardness of his body was already palpable, throbbing against her lower region.

The blue one pulled back slightly to contemplate her, and asked with a soft voice, but with an inescapable seriousness in his tone.

—Tell me if it's too much for you.

—It's okay —the young woman responded, offering him a smile full of love and confidence.

He kissed her one last time before seeking his best position over her. He separated to clearly visualize the moment, and brought his intimacy to hers. When they first made contact, a tremor shook them both, an unknown and powerful emotion taking hold of the atmosphere.

The hedgehog entered her with extreme care, analyzing every gesture and breath of the young woman, obsessed with the intention of not causing her pain. The hedgehog closed her eyes, her breathing became ragged. Both were trying to assimilate the immensity of this new shared experience.

When the blue one was completely inside her, the young woman arched her back, and a resonant moan escaped her lips. In her lover's eyes, the sight of her, with that expression of pure pleasure, was as beautiful as the sensation of fullness from being inside her. The reality far exceeded his most yearning fantasies.

—Are you well? —the hedgehog asked, his concentration unwavering, but his voice full of overflowing affection.

—Y-Yes... God, it's incredible —the young woman responded, her voice broken, confirming that the wait had been worth it.

Upon hearing his partner's confirmation, the hedgehog prepared to continue. He began with paused movements, a slow but already pleasurable cadence for both. With each sway, he felt her enveloping warmth and gratifying tightness, a sensation that tested his newfound moderation.

The hedgehog began to express low moans, loaded with pure joy, lifting her hips to intensify the friction they were generating. Between ragged whispers, she pleaded with him to increase the rhythm, a request he accepted without the slightest doubt.

His thrusts became more frequent and energetic, but always maintaining a precision that avoided any harshness. He placed his hands firmly on the young woman's hips to maximize the sensation, applying subtle pressure that made her gasp with pleasure. Seeing her in that state of absolute abandon, so surrendered to ecstasy thanks to his touch, was an image that would be etched in his memory.

—Could you... go faster? —she asked, with a mix of affection and peremptory need in her voice, looking at him with insatiable desire.

—Heh, speed is my middle name —he replied with a playful tone, returning her gaze with the same intense affection. He brought his face close to hers and sealed their lips in a kiss of confirmation—. You don't have to beg twice.

Upon finishing speaking, he held her with a firm and reassuring strength as he accelerated the cadence of his movements. The young woman's moans intensified, her pleasure escalating with each deep penetration. The deeper he sank into her, the stronger he groaned with satisfaction, finding the sensation addictive. Without a doubt, this was something they would do often. He promised himself that he would dedicate this affection to her as many times as possible.

The room, enveloped in the dim light of dawn, was completely transformed, permeated by the essence of their union. The air was saturated with the sweet aroma of the hedgehog's body and the metallic smell of skin warmed by exertion. The silence of the night was usurped by the dull rhythm of their bodies colliding, the hedgehog's ragged gasps, and the young woman's symphony of ecstasy. The soft amber glow of the nightstand lamp delineated the sweaty contours of their intertwined figures, turning the bed into the sole center of the universe. It was a dense atmosphere, charged with an intimacy that overcame the distance of the years. Every sound, every touch, was a confession and an oath. There, in that explosive stillness, the true beginning of their story was being written.

-------------

In the morning, silence had taken hold of the large house. Outside, the morning mist slowly lifted over the garden, and the air carried the residual scent of damp grass and evaporated liquor. The party was now only a memory: remnants of empty glasses and extinguished amber lights. All the guests, save two, had returned to their lives. The current of the world had moved on, dragging the others back to routine.

Downstairs, in the main hall, Tails woke up with a pounding head, courtesy of the drinks from the night before. His mind, usually sharp, navigated in a dense fog as he stood up. Checking the mess, the memory struck him: his best friend, the blue hedgehog, hadn't left. The image of Sonic going out after Amy on the balcony returned to his mind.

The young genius set about searching the house for him with fraternal concern. After an unsuccessful sweep of the lower floors, logic guided him upstairs. It occurred to him that they might have fallen asleep in one of the guest rooms. He went up to the upper corridor. Passing the balcony, he noticed a door that wasn't completely closed.

The fox gently opened the door to the guest room and stood completely motionless at the sight. In the center of a nest of tangled sheets, Sonic and Amy were sleeping deeply, completely devoid of any clothes, nestled against each other in total abandonment. Sonic's face was buried in her quills, and Amy held his hand with a soft possessiveness.

Instantly, the fox slipped out of the room and closed the door with instinctive delicacy, his mind in a state of shock and astonishment. The image was both intimate and, for him, slightly unsettling, leaving him blushing from the involuntary intrusion into something so personal.

However, after the jolt, a wave of sincere joy flooded him. A smile formed on his face. Finally. It was about time those two took that step, and judging by the state of the sheets, they had done it with the intensity that characterized them.

The sound of soft footsteps pulled him from his thoughts. Cream, with the freshness of the morning on her face, appeared in the corridor.

—Tails, do you know if Amy left last night? I didn't see her and couldn't say goodbye to her —the rabbit asked.

The fox paused, formulating a response that honored his friends' privacy.

—She left with Sonic, but they didn't tell me where they were going. It looked like they had important matters to discuss. —Tails shrugged, keeping the secret with an unprecedented complicity.

In the silent room, oblivious to the morning already underway, the hedgehog and the pink one had finally stopped evading their destiny. The fear of permanence and the weight of love had dissolved in the warmth of their embrace. The gravitational force that Amy had always represented had finally managed to capture the fleeting comet. The couple had found the stillness he so feared, and it turned out to be his only place of belonging. It was the peace only reached by confronting the abyss of the inevitable.

Thus began the promise of a shared future after the trial of their reunion.
