Work Text:
Come out with us they said, it'll be fun they said. Yeah being ditched by your two best friends was not your definition of fun. What started out as a typical girls night, the three of you roaming around town going wherever the wind took you, has now turned into you watching their bags while they dance with strangers. Gorgeous strangers but that's beside the point.
Normally you wouldn't really mind it. But after the mind numbingly awful week at work you were honestly looking forward to spending time with your people. You don't want to be a bore and ask them to stop having fun but you wish they would look over and see the lack of fun you were having.
Seeing that they weren't going to tire anytime soon you settle into your booth and grab your phone. When in doubt your fictional characters never let you down. You quickly lose yourself in the book, trading the bar for the fantastical lands within. Suddenly you're ripped from this world when you notice someone sliding into the booth. Believing it to be your friends you look up excited.
Your smile quickly fades when you see it's a man you don't know. Your heart drops when you look out to the dance floor hoping to meet either of your friends eyes but they don't notice. You are on your own to try and get rid of this guy.
"Now what is someone as beautiful as you doing all alone here?" You can tell he's been drinking for a while by the intense slur is anything affecting his speech. You'd think that would make it better, make him easier to fight or get away from. It doesn't, the drunker they are the quicker they can snap.
"I'm not alone." You try to keep it short, not quite rude but not leaving extra room to continue the conversation.
"You look alone to me." His eyes are looking pretty much everywhere except your face. It makes your skin burn. Even though he isn't touching you, you practically feel his every thought. You feel your skin crawling as a shiver runs through you. You swear you see a smirk cross his face at your reaction.
"I'm not I'm here with some friends and my boyfriend." You hope he hasn't been watching you long enough to know that there is no boyfriend in question. While you're sure you could make a scene and your friends would help you don't want to be the center of attention. You can only hope that the mention of a boyfriend is enough, please let it be enough.
"Friends maybe, but no way would a boyfriend let you out of his sight when you look like this." He licks his lips and moves closer to you. Alarm bells are ringing and you're sure if you don't get out of this soon it's only gonna get worse.
"Well she's her own person so why wouldn't I let her?" You look to the left and see another man you don't know standing there. The new arrival causes the other man to lean back to his side. You let out a breath of relief when he's no longer inching closer to you. "Excuse me I'd like some time with my girl alone." The look this new arrival gives leaves no room for objection as he steps to provide a path for the unwanted man to leave. He grumbles what you can assume are hurtful words as he awkwardly scoots out of the booth and finally leaves.
This new man sits down making sure to keep space while still looking close incase they're still being watched. After a moment you fully let out the breath you were holding, unable to stop the tears that come with. You reach up to wipe at them and notice how much you're shaking. After a minute of slow grounding breaths to gather yourself you see a glass of water being slid to you. "I'm sorry I just saw you eyeing your friends for help and couldn't help but react. I'll only stay long enough to make sure that guy is kicked from the bar. Are you ok?" Your eyes go from the man to the water and back to the man. Sitting in front of you is a sight that should be setting off your fight or flight again. This man is one a stranger and two clearly strong. His muscular frame is being shown off by the black t-shirt he is wearing. The sleeves clinging in a way that shouldn't look as good as it does. His hair: dark, curly, and long enough to be hitting his eyes. He sits with a confidence that has been earned, yet he doesn't exude the usual stench of arrogance that follows. His whole presence screams masculine but for some reason you're not met with the inclination to run at the first opportunity. Then his words finally hit you.
"How is he gonna be kicked from the bar?" Hearing the shake in your voice you decide to take the water that was offered.
"My friends. I told them I was gonna see if you needed help and that if I got that guy away they had to make sure he left. They should be headed that way with a manager or someone now." Sure enough there were two younger men leading an older man straight to that guy who had found a new woman to corner. You watch as the manager starts talking which is quickly followed by the drunk man yelling and trying to get in the managers face. It ends with security kicking him out. You look back at your mystery hero in disbelief before he sighs and says, "I suppose that's my queue to leave. Have a nice rest of your night." You're surprised when there is a part of you that yells out not wanting him to leave.
You blurt out "My name's y/n by the way." before you're really thinking about it. Unsure how to get him to stay you try to channel twenty seconds of bravery. "You don't have to leave if you don't want to. I definitely owe you a drink as a way to say thank you. I honestly don't know what would have happened with that guy otherwise." He carries a look of contemplation before finally deciding to sit back down.
"Ok, my name's Changbin. I will definitely let you let me buy you a drink. What are you drinking?" You don't stop the laugh that follows. After bickering back and forth you relent and reluctantly tell him your drink order, and off he goes. It's at this moment that your friends decide to remember you exist.
"OH MY GOSH WHO IS THAT?!" One yells too close to you and you have to hurry and shush her before she says something embarrassing.
"My Knight in black tee shirt" you giggle back. While they give looks to each other you make eye contact with him as he waits at the bar.
"OOOH DO WE LIKE HIM?" Your other friend shouts equally as loud.
"I don't know, but I'm going to find out." You duck you head as a smile continues to spread across your face no longer able to lay dormant. You maneuver around your friends before they can ask too many questions. Sparing them one more look before turning and walking up to Changbin at the bar.
