Chapter Text
He bends over, tying the lace of his sneakers. One knee pressed against the rough gravel of the track. He stands up, watching his fellow teammates practice around him.
Hank Olson is at javelin, lamely throwing the staff. Clearly not interested. Collie Parker is practicing sprints, his legs pumping as he propels his body forward as fast as he can. Curley is attempting (poorly) at throwing shot-put, Stebbins is watching him with an amused grin.
Ray then focus’s back on his stretches. This year he would put in his all. He has to be number one. Most importantly he had to beat Peter McVries. The number one long distance runner in the state. And soon Ray would be, he would make sure of it.
He walks over to the start line, pressing the button on his stopwatch. Three… two… one…
And he’s off.
