The applause was deafening.
Kisa stood on the stage, happily waving to the crowd. Quartz managed to win the gold trophy once again. As her eyes roamed the crowd, she spotted the person she wanted to see the most.
“Tsuki-nii!” she yelled, jumping ecstatically. He smiled and waved at her. She ran off stage and towards him. Before she could get close to him, the auditorium’s lights turned off for a second. By the time the lights turned back on, her brother was gone.
Kisa opened her eyes. The familiar ceiling of her bedroom was above her. She wasn’t at the theater—it had been a dream.
Quartz had won first place in her last performance as a third year. She was going to graduate soon. It didn’t seem real, yet the weather getting warmer proved it was true.
Happy.
Kisa thought that was how she should be feeling. She had accomplished her wish of going to the same school as her brother. Univeil had been everything she ever dreamed of and more. After winning the finale performance, she would say goodbye to her classmates at an end of the school year party. Having one last happy memory with her friends was something she looked forward to.
But she couldn’t bring herself to be completely excited for the upcoming party. Tears flowed down her face. Kisa brought a wrist to her eyes to wipe them away, but more tears kept coming out. There was one goodbye she didn’t want to accept but she knew that remaining hopeful for a reunion would continue to hurt her.
She would never get to tell her brother that she had attended Univeil after she wanted to go due to him performing there.
She would never get to tell her brother that she loved acting more than ever thanks to the wonderful friends she made at school.
And, after four years of him being missing, something told her that she would never get to see her brother again.
