Chapter Text
Everyone has heard horror stories about the man with a knife, the kind of monster who takes the form of a person but in every other way is a mindless murderer. Not one plea, or threat, or scream can stop that man from killing you, and, understandably, that’s terrifying. Maybe it was something about the way he invaded your own home. Maybe it was knowing that once he’d seen you, you could never outrun him. Maybe it was that nothing about him was supernatural; only uncanny and vaguely unhuman.
But what’s maybe more horrifying than that is death itself. The tragic, freak accident kind. The kind of fate that people would shake their heads in minor sorrow at– maybe with a muttered phrase of sympathy –and then go on with their day when they saw it in the news. Someone might send your parents their condolences, someone might scoff and say that you shouldn’t have been doing what you were doing when you died. As if that’d justify it. If only it were that simple..
It’s been almost two years since death came for us. It’s been two years since I lost them. None of that can be fixed now. It won’t matter how many times I think of how different it could’ve gone, it can’t be undone. Nothing done can be undone. But nonetheless, I feel inclined to write this. Two years ago, six amazing people were lost. All of them had their own dreams, their own goals, and their own potential that will never get to see the light of day.
I’m not just gonna let them fade into the unforgiving void that is obscurity. Not when they still have stories to be told. Not when they’re still alive somehow, even if it’s only on paper.
Ever since their passings, I have found that I feel damn near everything they felt leading up to it, even if through a thick blanket of static. I’ve tried my very best to articulate the whispering of the flickers in my head, even though it's as if I can feel the thoughts click but the clarity is still belonging to someone else. As if I’ve solved a puzzle but only the souls it was meant for can see it; I am not one of them.
With that having been said, please, enjoy the following with the understanding it may not be exactly as it went.
