Work Text:

Do you know the phrase, ‘curiosity killed the cat?'

Well, Scar would like to coin a new phrase:

Curiosity nearly sent the cat into cardiac arrest.

You couldn't blame him for being curious!

At first, the giant mirror on the ceiling was something silly to laugh over and snap a quick photo in.

But things didn't stop there, of course. Like always usual, Grian and Scar started off making excited conversation about ideas for the rest of their lives together, before they quickly spiraled.

They had already been practically sitting on each other, fingers intertwined, looking at each other like a couple of love-struck teenagers.

Grian glanced down and fidgeted with the thin frame of his glasses– like he couldn’t decide whether to take them off or not.

Scar tilted his head and watched as Grian eventually made up his mind. He placed his hand back over Scar’s and squeezed it, before quickly giving him a chaste peck on his lips.

He blinked in delighted surprise, and when Grian pulled away, he cupped his jaw and pulled him right back in.

Grian held onto his wrists and leaned into him.

One of Scar's hands slid down his side, slowly tracing his shape, before settling on his thigh. He gently tugged him into his lap, savoring the warmth that came with.

Grian tilted his head and tugged at Scar's lower lip with his teeth.

Scar groaned and sank back into the cushions, holding Grian tighter. Sharp nails trailed along his scalp and his hair was held in a fist. Grian wrapped his other arm around Scar's broad shoulders.

Scar slid a cold hand up Grian’s back, under his shirt, causing him to melt against him and release a heavenly melody of chirps and coos.

If Scar had the ability to be truly bird-brained, the sound would have turned him into a puddle immediately.

Scar tugged the hem of Grian's shirt upwards (which was actually Scar's shirt that he had "borrowed" for their honeymoon) and Grian got the hint immediately.

As much as he didn't appreciate the loss of contact, he had to let Grian go for a moment- it was for the greater good.

He held his hips, eyes darting up and down his torso as his glasses and shirt were hastily removed. Hanging from Grian's neck was an icy-blue crystal made from Scar's very own vex magic. A physical manifestation of his very essence.

That, he never took off.

Scar gave a dopey, lopsided grin. Before he could say something sweet and/or flirtatious like he would have normally, Grian tightly grabbed his collar and surged forward.

Scar wouldn't be surprised if he looked in a mirror later to see his lips all busted and bruised.

And there it was.

The seed of curiosity had been planted.

Grian tilted his head and kept their chests pressed flat together.

Scar closed his eyes, choosing to focus on kissing Grian back.

For now at least.

It wasn't long before Grian began making quick work of the buttons on Scar’s shirt (Scar having already gone around the whole day with most of his chest bare, left little for Grian to undo).

Scar let Grian slip his sleeves from his arms, knowing how much he enjoyed trailing his nails down his muscles. Despite always embarrassedly claiming that his muscles weren't the reason he liked doing so, Scar could easily tell he was lying.

He felt Grian smile against his lips as he tossed his shirt off to who knows where.

Grian settled his hands, one on the nape of Scar's neck, and the other splayed across his collarbone.

While Grian kissed him stupid, Scar's mind wandered to the mirror above. He wondered if Grian's feathers were ruffled. He wondered where their clothes had ended up. He wondered just how messy his hair had become, or how red his face had gotten.

Somewhat snapping him from his thoughts, Grian harshly tilted his head back, locking his lips onto his neck.

Scar simply could have passed away from the sensation. He couldn't help the fact that his back had arched slightly, as if it were possible for him to be any closer to his husband.

Grian smiled into his skin, and kissed his way up his neck to the small area between his jaw and ear. His grip tightened. Scar didn't want him to ever let go.

Grian's wings twitched, and suddenly Scar's mind was brought back to the mirror above.

It couldn't hurt to look, right?

Really, there were no cons to taking a peek.

And the deeper Grian kissed him, the more his curiosity grew.

Grian sank his teeth into Scar's skin, and Scar could tell he was definitely leaving a mark.

He yelped, but didn't push him away. The idea of him ever doing such a thing was downright ridiculous!

Instead, he tried to whisper the name, "Gri," but it came out more as a desperate whine. His nails dug into Grian's back and his breath came in short, quick gasps for air.

Scar wanted to mentally slap himself for making such a sound, but he felt Grian's feathers ruffle. He remembered the effect these sorts of moments always had on him, and spared himself chastisement.

Once Grian had left a few last kisses over the bite, he spared no time in beginning work on his other side.

The wings on both his head and back twitched nearly non-stop. The hand not holding Scar's hair in a tight fist trailed down his chest, down his stomach, up his side, over his shoulder, down his arm, and all over again, leaving a trail of fire in its wake.

Finally, Scar let his eyelids flutter open. It took him a moment of genuine concentration to focus his vision and not let himself fall back into the sensations of Grian's attention and admiration.

He glanced upwards, locking eyes with his own reflection.

His eyes widened, nearly coming out of his skull.

His hair stuck to his forehead, and a ridiculously deep blush spread from the tips of his ears, all the way down to his neck and shoulders. A red bite mark showed below his ear, and a few bruises had begun to appear, surely to darken within the next few hours.

But less about him.

Grian was the one he was interested in from the start.

The sight made him inhale quickly and stop breathing.

Grian had unfurled his wings, draping them over the couch cushions. All of his feathers had puffed up, and Scar watched his wings twitch happily as he adjusted his hands.

His gaze trailed slowly from the dip in Grian's spine to the base of his wings. Wonderfully bright feathers exploded across his back, reaching down to the hem of his pants. He watched the movement in his shoulder blade as his hand continued to wander. He watched the flex of his arms, toned muscle finally bare. Grian had quite a bit to show off, but he tended to reserve the sight for Scar, and Scar alone.

Which meant times like these made his heart skip more than a few beats.

He swallowed.

"Scar?"

His head spun.

"Darling?"

He stiffened. Right, Grian was speaking to him.

Grian nuzzled his nose into his neck, keeping his eyes closed. "Sweetheart,” (his heart fluttered at the petname), “you're not breathing."

Oh right.

Breathing.

That was important.

He parted his lips and forced himself to inhale the smallest bit of oxygen.

He couldn't afford to die by kissing again.

A few small breaths later and Grian was satisfied with his attempts to hold onto life. He smiled (a sight that Scar saw and nearly stopped breathing again because of) and turned back into him, resuming kissing. Slower this time, softer.

You'd think that would help ease Scar's racing heart.

But you'd be wrong.

Grian, knowing every single way to wind him up, slowly kissed down his neck, reaching his collarbone.

Scar could easily close his eyes again and fall back into the trance where the only thing he registered was Grian, Grian, and more Grian.

But he was far too entranced by the way Grian's spine curved as he shifted, the way his wings fluttered, the way his arms moved, and the small tilts of his head.

He was absolutely breathtaking.

And that was a big problem, because if he quit breathing again, Grian would most surely stop and leave him alone until he could get a hold of himself.

He couldn't draw his eyes away though!

Grian's feathers stood out brightly against every other color in the room. A few had even come loose, lying around them, reminding Scar of rose petals.

Before he could get too lost in that train of thought, he caught a glimpse of his feather earring and his heart swelled.

Scar was Grian's, and only Grian's. And Grian was his.

He almost couldn't believe that he had Grian all to himself for the rest of his life and whatever lies beyond.

His thoughts were cut off when Grian nipped at his collarbone, fortunately (or moreso unfortunately) not leaving a mark.

Scar gasped and tried to speak, but only managed a few high-pitched, incoherent syllables. Then he sighed.

Grian giggled, and the shake in his wings matched the sound.

Scar decided he needed to do something to return Grian's fruitful efforts.

Admiring his wings once more, Scar trailed his fingers up his spine, making him shiver under the touch.

Scar caressed the space between his wings, where the feathers were most abundant.

Grian rested his forehead on Scar's shoulder and cooed.

A sweet sound that only made Scar dizzier.

He dug his fingers into the pillowy-softness– not very hard though, since this spot was way more sensitive than the skin of his own neck (where Grian had no worries of being too harsh. He could do whatever he pleased and Scar would always be happy).

However, Grian's reaction only made Scar more susceptible to self-induced suffocation.

Grian gasped Scar's name, voice cutting off at the end. His grip tightened immensely, nails digging into Scar's bicep and the back of his neck. A cacophony of chirps filled the room. His shoulders rose and fell heavily.

Scar's eyes widened at the reaction. Grian's wings fluttered again, nearly doing a whole flap.

He shook ever so slightly in his lap and Scar had started to worry he'd hit a sore feather, hurting him as consequence.

His worries quickly dissipated when Grian quietly demanded, "Do it again."

Scar blinked quickly and his heart nearly ripped itself from his chest.

Rather than further messing up his feathers, Scar carded his fingers through them, straightening them out into neat rows. His hands moved all the way from the base of his neck to the end of his spine, causing Grian to melt into him.

He trilled endlessly- not a care in the world.

Scar however, had a few cares in the world.

One being more pressing than the others.

The fact that he might actually die.

Well, not actually. He was being dramatic.

But, with Grian's weight against him, the way they stuck together, the heavy rise and fall of both of their chests, Grian's death grip on him, and the endless sounds of Grian's pleased chirping, Scar might actually explode.

To further his dilemma, Grian moved a hand over his heart, surely feeling it beating out of control.

"Your heart doesn't usually go this fast," he teased, "Are you okay?"

Scar only managed a curt nod.

Grian hummed. Then he stiffened.

‘Oh dear,' Scar thought.

Grian had definitely put the pieces together.

He folded his wings back in, making Scar's heart race just a little less, but not enough to ease Grian's curiosities.

"Scar?" He asked sweetly.

"Hm?" Was all he could manage. He continued stroking  his feathers, watching them rise in a trail behind his fingers.

Grian drummed his fingers, "Why do I have a feeling you remembered the mirror?"

Scar hesitated for just long enough for Grian to notice.

His blush deepened as Grian buried his nose into the crook of his neck.

His ears pointed down and an embarrassed smile spread on his lips.

He watched Grian peek his obsidian-colored eyes open. He immediately met Scar's gaze and his grin spread.

"How long were you watching like this?" He laughed.

"Um..." Scar faded off. He tried to remember the exact moment when he'd opened his eyes, but his mind was too full of images of Grian on top of him, colorful wings fluttering.

He shifted his arms around Grian, holding him tighter.

Grian fell into a fit of uncontrollable giggles. He wrapped his arms around Scar's neck and turned back into him. "I hope you enjoyed the show," He teased with a sing-song voice.

Scar made a noise of acknowledgment, turning to press his nose into his hair (still doing his best to keep an eye out above).

"Now I want a turn," Grian pouted.

"But G…” he managed, "I was looking at... at your... wings." He took a deep breath, regaining some of the air it took to speak coherently.

"You have wings too," Grian retorted. "And I miss them. You haven't brought them out in ages.”

Scar giggled and pressed a kiss to the top of his head, "I owe you then."

"Next time?" He pleaded.

"Next time," he agreed. "I need like– a week to… catch my… breath."

Grian huffed, “Fine.” He adjusted so that his ear rested on Scar's chest, no doubt listening to his heart race. "Wow," he said, "I really did a number on you, didn't I?"

Scar giggled and tilted his head back, smiling widely at their reflection, where Grian was looking back at him. He adorned a softer expression, but still full of just as much love and admiration as Scar's.

His heartrate picked up again, and he finally had to force himself to close his eyes. He pursed his lips, pleading internally that his chest wouldn't burst open.

Grian giggled and planted a quick kiss to his jaw. Making himself comfortable, he settled back into him.

Yep.

Scar couldn't wait to spend the rest of his life being Grian's.

Notes:

This fic is inspired by the time my friend and I were at a social club and the lounge area had a mirror for a ceiling. We were sitting there looking up at it, chatting idly, but then I started giggling because this fic was beamed into my brain.

As always, if you feel so inclined, comments and kudos are greatly appreciated!!

(One last thing: the line "He couldnt afford to die by kissing again" is a reference to one of my other fics called 'Take My Breath Away')
