Work Text:
It was a full moon, light shining and grass glistening from the rainfall earlier. Lee Felix had always been a bit of a night owl, yes he's aware he shouldn't, in this world is dangerous. He could be mugged, beaten, have his blood sucked out of him and reduced to nothing but a pale bag of bones and dead organs.
So yes he's a huge idiot. But like all idiots he has blind confidence. It was just supposed to be a quick run to the local convenience store, just some candy and soda. He had locked his doors and tied his hoodie tight around his head. He was definitely an idiot but he wasn't so stupid as to go out there OBVIOUSLY. Vampires did have morals after all. They fed on human stupidity, believing if you were caught alive at night it was practically impossible to make it out alive. Bodies have been found after nights humans were dumb enough to go outside after nightfall.
Despite all his precautions, at the end of the day, vampires have incredible hearing.
"What's a pretty little thing like you doing out so late?" A voice creeped around him. He stopped, glancing around into the darkness.
"Behind you" He turned, seeing no one.
"You know what happens to humans like you out this dark? We have rules you know, don't you value your life?" A new one, a female voice this time joined.
"Aw, but this ones cute. Can't we play with him a little before his death. Let his last moments not be boring dont you think?" Third voice. Where were all these voices coming from?? He turned harder, eyes dilated scanning around him.
Again, he's an idiot so like one he just tried to run.
Yup, tried to run away from supernatural beings that are 10x better in every physical aspect he has. The fu- dense loaf of bread this man is. He's just lucky they weren't the only ones watching him tonight.
"Where do you think you're going little one?" He was grabbed by the head and thrown down into a puddle. Eyes darting as they gazed upon three sets of shimmering deep red eyes.
"You can't go without a little taste" In a flash the girl was at his neck, pulling his head back with a scream as she stuck her teeth into him.
"AAAAAGGGH!" He fell back in pain as he felt the blood leave his body, mind blacking from the shock. Brain barely registering the fourth figure coming out of no where. Catching fragments of the interaction, yelling erupted, bodies flew, people went into attack.
The girl had stopped sucking his neck at his point but it was too late. He was knocked out. The last thing he say was a pair of deep grey eyes looking into his.
He woke up lying on his bed, clothes still on, bandage over neck, pounding headache and a fervent urge to find the gorgeous grey eyes that saved him.
.
.
.
.
The same grey eyes that were currently hiding away in the confines of his house. This old abandoned house from maybe a thousand plus years ago that his family took over, honestly he stopped counting the years, after one hundred years on this earth the days start the mend together. He could probably be older then that and he wouldn't know.
"Hyunjin" His father called, stepping into his office where he stood at the window. The window constantly closed unless at night. The window he would stare at with his wide eyes, hoping just once he could see wonders the lit world had to offer him instead of the confining walls of his home.
"Your grandparents are downstairs they want to see you, come down" His father, Hwang Ha-Joon, the head of the Hwang Council after his grandfather Ju-won retired with his grandmother Su-Jin.
"Stop trying to stare out the window boy, let's go"
"Yes father"
He came downstairs to find his family seeing in the living room. His father talking to his grandfather, mother Young-Mi sipping tea with his grandmother. Aunt Su-Bin and Uncle Yu-Jin sitting pretentiously on the couch as normal. Worse was his cousins though. Twins Jong-Su and Yong-sun. He didn't mind his little cousin Myung-Hee though, still so sweet despite her brothers.
"Thank you for gracing us with your presence Hyunjin, to busy staring out the window again?" Yong-Sun started up.
He rolled his eyes before turning to his grandparents.
"Grandfather, Grandmother. I take it the flight was smooth?"
"Hyunjin! Oh I've missed you" He always liked his grandparents, back when they still lived with them, they were very sweet people. His grandmother taught him how to change animals and fly. His grandfather used to help him play tricks on the rest of their family members. Before -that is- they moved out into this retirement home for Antediluvians like them, where they sat as heads of the council where they wrote rules for people like Ha-Joon to enforce on their domain.
"I've missed you too Grandfather. how have you two been?" He heard his cousins groan behind him, muttering a 'suckup' under ones breath. If it weren't for the fact they're immortal and have no blood Hyunjin would love to sink his teeth into their necks and end them.
Bitter little rats like them aren't worth his time though.
Ju-won was a pale, wrinkly bald man with shining grey eyes that still stared with the same love and zest for life he had back when he was only a thousand years old and bought this house when it was fresh. Fangs still sharp but fake, smile still wide and genuine as ever. Su-Jin was the same, not quite as vibrant as her husband but just a quieter type of passionate, having spent her years raising two kids and running a council, she prefers the quiet of the mansion library, sporting a grey wig she turned from where she was talking to her daughter-in-law.
"Great, retirement is fine but a little boring, me and your grandmother are thinking of backpacking through the human world" Su-Jin groaned.
"Ju-won we talked about this, we ourselves have set rules about this. We don't interfere in the human world" Ju-won never liked that, but it was a rule he was forced to live by back in the Dark Ages.
"Jagi it's 2025, I'm sure humans are more understanding now then that?" Hyunjin rolled his eyes a little.
'I wouldn't be very understanding if I woke up to at least one fresh dead body on the curb everyday' That's due to humans on stupidity though. Don't they have people like- what's the word? Presidents to tell them not to do dumb shit like that?
"Ha-Joon, Su-Bin talk some sense into your father"
"Appa this is exactly where Hyunjin gets these ideas from, always staring at the blinded window during the day and stalking humans at night" Ha-Joon argued.
"I thought he doesn't drink human blood? Hyunjin are the packs we send not enough" By now he had sat down. Sitting on the couch opposite to him.
"No grandfather, they work just fine" Hyunjin will admit though he did get his fascination for humans from his grandfather. Much to his parents dismay.
"The problem is that Hyunjin is a creep, and a weirdo. What kinda vampire doesn't drink human blood? We made a deal Hyun it's- what do humans call it? Natural Selection? We pick out the dumb ones who get caught at night"
"Yes except Hyunjin with his savior complex has been saving those twats"
Oh what Hyunjin wouldn't give to be able to snap their necks right now.
Ha-Joon stood up, staring at Hyunjin.
"You're doing what? Are you trying to starve us out Hyunjin?"
"First of all, I drink human blood I just don't like the process all that much, it's messy. Second of all it was just one or two humans here or there I'm not starving anyone, it's just fledgling punks Father. Third, Jong-su just say you're jealous next time instead of trying to do shit like this to get on Grandfather's good side" He bolted up, teeth already bared and green eyes flashing. Hyunjin didn't blink.
"I'm not jealous of you of all people you shit! But unlike you I actually care about OUR people, do you forget that humans used to hunt us! hundreds of thousands of us have died to the ancestors of those pathetic flesh bags you're helping! I have loyalty, you just think because your father is the head and you get everything fucking HANDED to you, you're too good to actually care!" He was getting heated, face would probably be red if he had blood in his veins.
"The ones who died to them were probably the low lifes like you who don't know how to actually be a vampire" His voice monotone, looking straight into his cousins eyes.
"YOU- YOU FUCKING PRICK" He would've jumped him right there if it weren't for the fact Yong-Sun and Uncle Yu-Jin didn't hold him back right then and there.
"JONG-SU HYUNJIN ENOUGH!" His father yelled, voice echoing off the walls.
"YOUR ROOMS NOW!" Su-Bin continued. Jong-su thrashed out of their arms, giving Hyunjin one last glare before leaving the living room.
"Hyunjin I said you too"
"Yes, Auntie. Grandmother, Grandfather" He bowed before exiting.
"I don't want to see you till dinner Hyunjin, we'll be eating out tonight"

10pm, suns been set for a few hours now and we're in the prime of the night.
"Hopefully they're out there again, gotta say thank you" He suited up in some dark clothes, trying to look inconspicuous and walked out into the dead of the night.
He wasn't walking for long before he found a group of vampires above. He froze, hoping they wouldn't look in his direction as he held his breath.
"... go for the kids... lasting..." He heard one muttered, he gasped.
the voices stopped. He ran behind a house.
"Someone go check that out"
"I'll g-"
"I will" Hyunjin volunteered.
"I'll meet you there" He flew down silently, alert for the victim. Felix's heart pounding hard in his chest despite himself.
"I can hear it you know?" It called from a distance.
"Takes an either really dumb person or really brave person to be out at this hour, your hearts beating faster. I know you're afraid" Bloody hell, he's going to die before he had a chance to thank his savior.
"I have a feeling' Closer.
'You're right around' He was desperately looking around for any possible escape route.
'Here." Scintillating grey eyes came in front of him as arms grabbed at his jacket, lifting him up as he screamed. Before he stuck his teeth into him he stopped. Eyes going back dull grey as he dropped him.
"You again?" He went to his level, staring the human up and down as he cowered in front of him.
"How fucking slow are you- What are you doing out again?? Do you have a death wish??"
"I- I wanted to thank you" He looked at him like he was crazy.
"Thank me for what?"
"Saving me, ye-yesterday I hoped to see you again" His eye twitched as he rubbed his temples.
"You almost risked your life to say thank you? You realize if it was ANYONE else in my family you'd be dead right now"
"yes?"
"You're a nonsensical, inept FOOL you know that" He jabbed his finger in his chest.
"Go home NOW" He started flying away till he felt his hand held back.
"Wait, when can I see you again? I owe you more then just a simple apology, let me cook you dinner or something, do you eat animal?"
"Tell you what, I'll come by your house tomorrow but for now I need to leave, my family will start to wonder where I am" He picked up a random squirrel and bite into it.
"God that was disgusting. Now go the fuck home, I didn't eat a squirrel for you to actually die" He nodded and ran away as Hyunjin rejoined his family.
It was a mess, apparently some family decided to say fuck it and have housewarming party on their patio. Only those weak florescent lights as if that keeps them away. Guess the house is back up for sale.

The next morning Felix made a dash for the supermarket, picking up plenty of meats and seasonings. He truly is a pure soul. After that he went to work and by the time that was over the sun was setting in a matter of hours.
By nightfall he had prepped a nice pot roast. It was a little bland due to lack of garlic but nothing inedible. It was just simmering on the stove now as he waited and soon enough he heard a knock at his window.
"There you are" He opened the window as he crept in.
"Was wondering when you would be here" In the light he finally got a good look at him. He looked pretty human, tall slim body, short black hair dressed like he's attending a funeral. Not like anyone he's ever known has really 'died' to say.
"Yeah well my family wouldn't shut up so it took a while" He looked around the living room, was simple, one couch, coffee table and TV.
"What'd you make?"
"I made some pot roast, might be a little bland from lack of garlic but I don't figure you guys care a lot able taste anyways, plus making a vampire a meal with garlic as a thank you seems a little ungenuine" He led him to the dining room.
"Vampires aren't deathly allergic to garlic you know? It just gives us stomach problems and I'm choosing to ignore that taste comment, do you really think so low of us?"
"You eat raw unfiltered human blood.-- so yes, I do think that low of you"
"Very confident words coming from someone who could be dead in seconds you know"
"Yes but I don't think you will" He sighed before taking a seat. The food smelled delicious, granted he didn't really need human food for survival but he didn't want to feel like he wasted the boys time by telling him that.
"So tell me about yourself. What's your name?" He set down two bowls of roast on the table, starting to eat.
"Hyunjin. Hwang Hyunjin, son of Ha-Joon and Young-Mi"
"Hmm. Are they like... important?"
"Only the King and Queen of this area. I'm next in line to inherit this place when my father retires, but that won't be for hundreds of years, He's not even a thousand years old yet"
"Damn, how old are you?"
"125, but frankly I stopped counting the years after 100, and you?"
"24, but my 25th birthday is next month"
"I see... what's your name?"
"Felix. Lee Felix, I came here from Australia, we had vampires there too but they evolved so they don't die in the sun. Practically wouldn't be able to tell the difference between them and humans"
This was only first of many instances the two met up.
Once again a week later at Felix insistance.
"Hyunjin you gotta try this" He shoved a steak in front of his face with a garlic aioli on the side of the plate.
"Steak, this is practically raw. How do humans eat this?" He poked at it with his fork, half expecting it to get up and dance away.
"Red meats don't really need to be cooked so thoroughly. It's white meat that would kill you"
"And what's this white sauce next to me?" He raised as eyebrow at him as he smiled.
"Sshhh, no questions Hyunjinnie just try it" He put his fingers to his lips. He stared at him, putting his finger down slowly as he picked up his fork. Smearing the sauce on his meat he brought it too his lips.
'Fragrant. Quite aromatic' He took the bite. His eyebrows shooting up as his eyes went wide looking at the younger.
"Oh wow... that's delicious" He took more bite, rapidly devouring the steak in front of his as Felix watched with a satisfied smile on his face.
When he was done with it he sat back all full and pleased with himself he looked to see the blonde with a shit-eating grin on his face.
"Good?"
"Yeah really" They sat in silence before Hyunjin stomach started rumbling. His grin somehow got wider.
"What are you smiling at you idiot?" He stared at him, giving him a once over until-\
*pffffffffft*
Hyunjin thanked every god on earth he couldn't flush.
"Awww, that was a cute toot hyunnie"
(If you guys didn't catch the reference just leave now. I dont wanna see your pfps again. /jk/ also yes. this entire scene revolved around that one moment)

Felix's 25th birthday.
"Thank you what is it?" He was holding a red crystal necklace, catching the light perfectly as he looked at it, mouth open in awe.
"I know humans have things like friendship bracelets and this isn't exactly one I thought you'd like it" Figured leaving out the part this was normally a necklace for a betrothed, he could repurpose it.
"I love it Jinnie thank you" He put it around his neck and gave him and hug, arms tight around his waist and head at his neck. Choosing to ignore the way he felt his nonbeating heart stop a little he hugged him back.
"I'm glad you enjoyed it yongbok -ah"
Maybe that's where it happened. Maybe that was the mistake.
They kept meeting up, started like once every two weeks. To every week, to everyday that Hyunjin practically lived at Felix's house. He could only stay for a few hours at a time though, the boy's still human and has a day job to effort his home and the amazing meals he cooked.
It's been more than a year at that point and Hyunjin's family wasn't blind to the change. He wasn't so reserved, spoke in a less formal tone then he used to, seemed to have a zest for his perpetually frozen life.
"What's got you smiling like that?" Uncle Yu-Jin would pester him during dinner.
"Yes, Jinnie what has gotten into you, these past months you're just so much happier these days" His mother jumped in, full truth Hyunjin couldn't answer anyways. Yes he loved his new friend Yongbok but he loved him like he loved any of his other friends, right?
"I just am amma I don't know"
"I feel like yesterday you would've answered that same question with a 'nothing mother, I'm perfectly fine' something has changed" Speaking of his friend he should go soon, it was snowing out and Hyunjin had promised Yongbok he would come out and showing him a painting in real time.
'You have to let me watch you sometime' Sitting in his living room with whatever the hell was playing in the background as Felix flipped through his sketchbook, only growing more stunned at the drawings.
'You don't need to flatter Yongbok it's not that good I haven't been drawing that long'
'Nonsense! It's amazing, next time it snows you better come out and let me watch you, promise me' He laughed, eyes crinkling as he took his book back.
'I promise'
"Nothing has changed appa" He left, going up to his room gathering his supplies in a cloth bag. Sneaking out the window he went to his house. Little did he know he wasn't the only one sneaking
"I was waiting for you Jinnie" He grabbed his key and they headed out. Hyunjin knew a secluded spot near the forests, not enough trees to feel creepy but not to little to feel exposed.
"Are you gonna watch me the whole time?"
"Yes, I said that's what I was gonna do, why?" He fidgeted where he stood.
"It's just a little weird, I'm not used to having someone watch me"
"What would you want me to do?"
"I- I don't know just interact with the scene it will get my mind relaxing" Felix nodded before going in front of his and jumping into the snow, forming a snow angel as more fell on them.
"OH I'M SO COLD" He yelled, Hyunjin laughed already starting to sketch out the scenery. Felix stood, going next to it to form a snow man, rolling up the big snowball as he turned to Hyunjin.
"THERE! Don't move!" It was perfect. the trees hanging overheard, the moon shining bright above, the necklace catching this glow that made it twinkle perfectly, the snow falling and him.
Beautiful Felix with his purple beanie on.
Beautiful Felix with his bleached blonde hair.
Beautiful Felix with his freckles.
Beautiful Felix with brown eyes.
Beautiful Felix with his flushed face.
Beautiful Felix with his smile that - while Hyunjin had never seen the sun or sunrise - made his feel so warm inside like that.
Beautiful Felix with those pink heart-shaped lips that Hyunjin desperately want to taste. Yearned for it, felt starved of despite never tasting it.
He never felt more motivated in his life, hands working furiously the just try to capture the pure, raw him of the moment. He was there for god knows how long but the shorter never complained, standing in the same position over his big snowball.
"It's done" He stepped back to admire his work as he came over. Jaw dropping at the realism.
(Not a real painting obviously)
"I- Jinnie it's amazing" He turned to find him already looking at him, making eye contact before his eyes dipped lower. God how much he wanted those, they looked good, probably tasted better then they looked.
"Eyes up here Jinnie" He didn't even notice when he came closer, standing right in front of him, looking beautiful in the light, softs pants coming from his as he could see his breath.
"May I kiss you Jinnie?" Oh lord his lips were every thing he thought they would be an more. He didn't know the status of Felix's... sex life like that but fuck, (if there were) the other people before him had it good. Felix's hands twitched at his side before going up into a gentle grasp around the latter's waist, giving him the freedom to move them away if he didn't want.
"Jin-- It's cold, let's go to my house, hmm?" He nodded, mind a little slow, eyes wide an unaware.
So unaware.
He packed up his things as quickly as he could, wanting to get back to his home and feel connected to the younger again. He felt a little reckless, a little stupid but high. High off the adrenaline of staying out of his home, high off the kiss, high off the mere idea they could share.
He felt like he was 50 again, young and stupid and sneaking out of his parents home and trying not to get caught. He can't remember the last time he felt like that, so... sly so... sneaky it felt- surreptitious to be with Felix, and he loved the feeling.
They quickly got into his house and landed on the couch together, Felix turned on the fireplace remotely and snuggled into some blankets with Hyunjin on top of him.
"Can I do that again, Hyunnie? Please? I want to do so, so many more times" Hyunjin was only a man.
Many kisses were shared that night, shared in the quiet, shared in the laughter, shared in the smiles stuck on their faces each time they pulled away. Kissing each other was just so right.
So why did his family think it was so wrong?

Hyunjin sneaked back into his room before the sun peaked out, still flush from his night he tucked his painting behind his dresser and changed to sleep.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Late at night, when he thought his family winded down into a comfortable co-existence, he was about to head out again he was called down to the living room.
"Hyunjin! A word please" His father's voiced echoed through the walls, he came downstairs to find everyone there but his Uncle, firm blank expressions of their faces. Even Myung-Hee from where she sat on her mothers lap.
"What's this about father?" He took an empty seat on the other side of the room.
"It's nothing Hyunjin I just wanted to share a drink with you" As if on cue Yu-Jin came in with enough glasses for the whole family. The blood was a deep red, right texture and consistency Hyunjin loved, he watched as his family drank their glasses, he also taking some solid sips from it.
"You like it" Ha-Joon asked, his tone taut and smooth.
"Yes, very nice. Where did you get it?" Ha-Joon set his glass down.
"Bring it in" The twins left the room and came back a few minutes carrying a big black bag, dragging it into the middle of the living room. They unzipped it and out he fell, cold, pale with multiple puncture wounds on his body.
Hyunjin froze, dropping his glass and as if a cruel showing of morbid symbolizes the blood in his glass stain the carpet around him, painting a heartbreaking scene of his lover dead on the floor surrounded by his own blood.
"No" He whispered under his breath.
"Oh yes Hyunjin." He reached into his pockets and pulled out a stack of pictures. Him and Felix from yesterday. Hyunjin painting him, Them admiring the finished product. The- the kiss.
"My son... heir to the throne, to a life of endless power, I find fraternizing with HUMANS?? AND A HUMAN BOY NO LESS!" Ha-Joon yelled, standing up as he threw on the table.
"GIVING HIM A BETROTHED NECKLACE" He pulled it out of his other pocket and threw it on the table with the photos.
"ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME?!" Hyunjin's composure shattered, teeth bared eyes ablaze with hurt and anger. In a second he was on top of Father. Grabbing him by the shoulders and throwing him on the floor, getting on top of him and punching him in the face. Ha-Joon quickly rolled them over and scratched Hyunjin in the face.
He went for the neck, trying to strangle him out when he made the mistake of looking in his fathers eyes. His hands went still in an instance as Jong-Su and Yong-Sun where on top of him.
Ha-Joon realigned his nose, it looking as good as new as the bruises on his neck faded.
"Get out Hyunjin, you have 20 minutes I want you gone" They dropped him, he looked around the living room, the once warm and familiar faces of his family now cold and distant. And then there was him. Still dead, still pale, lying in his own blood as some sort of twisted picture.
Hyunjin stood going up to his room and packing his stuff, some clothes, some blood bags, his half of the necklace. But most importantly the painting, he grabbed it from behind the dresser and gently placed it in his bag.
He went downstairs, looking at his family one more time and the boy he loved on the floor.
"Goodbye Hyunjin" Ha-Joon declared, not even looking up at him.
He turned, opened the door to the fresh crisp air of the night, a chill down his spine. He left.

Hyunjin POV
"That was two years ago" I was sitting on my couch, been living in a small abandoned home for two years now.
"Two years since you've been dead Lix, three years and some since I met you. You'd be 28 by now. I wrote you a song, only way to cope since your death. It's not very long, only a few lines, it was too painful to keep writing" The painting I made of him hangs on the wall in front of me, always there, always watching, reminding Hyunjin of a happier time.
I picked up my notebook and opened it to the page.
STARVED
(All the love that I lost)
Boy you leave me starving for a taste of you
I've been I've been I've been trying to escape the truth
That you're perfect even though you leave me feeling bruised
But still I would rather starve then taste somebody new
Boy you leave me starving for a taste of you.
