Chapter Text
Mira woke up as the sun streamed through the her window. She followed her daily routine, pulling up her hair, brushing her teeth, and going to the kitchen to make herself coffee.
She enjoyed watching the sun rise over Seoul from their balcony. In these moments her mind was silent and Mira could just… be.
Rumi woke up a little later, graciously accepting the latte Mira had made for her. The singer couldn’t function very well in the morning. But what comes out of Zoey’s bedroom every morning is even worse. The rapper staggers out in turtle pijamas, at least an hour after Rumi, wrapped in a blanket or two, hair a mess, drool sometimes even stuck to the edge of her face. It was the most beautiful sight Mira has ever seen and she looks forward to it everyday. Mira greeted her with a smile, “Morning sunshine,” she then handed her the sugary monstrosity Zoey called her daily coffee. The tall woman smiled as she turned away, catching Rumi’s smirk as she headed to the studio. Rumi shouted, “We are going into the market at eleven, don’t be late.” Mira gave her a thumbs up the fire turning the corner.
Of course Mira got lost in the music and next thing she knew Rumi popped her head in “It’s eleven we’re leaving.”
Mira lost the beat for a second at Rumi’s words, she sighed knowing that she lost the zone, and responded, “Sounds great, let me just shower and…” Rumi cut her off, “Nope, I warned you.” The purple haired girl grabbed her hand and dragged her out the room, “Zoey’s already waiting in the car.” Mira was baffled as she was shoved out of their home and into the car.
It wasn’t till she was side by side with her crush did Mira realize she was sweaty, in a white sports bra, and ratty pink huntrix sweatpants.
Luckily, Mira was able to keep her cool and made it to the market without exploding.
The day passed without note, except for the small turtle plush sitting on the counter of a stall opposite to where the girls had decided to get food.
Mira noticed that Zoey had been staring at it the whole time they were in line, Mira let out a small chuckle and handed Rumi the card. Rumi rolled her eyes, they were all totally loaded but Mira still insisted on paying and the other two had given up resisting.
Mira whispered to Rumi, “Distract Zo for me, and I’ll have the spiciest thing on the menu.” Rumi gave her a look, then answered “Yah no problem” but Mira heated her mumble, “totally whipped.”
Mira could have argued, but she was on a mission, and once she saw the American turn her attention from the plush to Rumi who had just asked her the difference between turtles and tourtuses.
Everything went smoothly for Mira as she slipped to the counter, grabbed the turtle and held it out to the cashier.
The young girl was frozen, and that should have been Mira’s first clue, but she kept glancing back at the ray of sunshine that was spewing random facts across the street. Then the young girls voice brought Mira to attention, “Your Mira from Huntrix.” Mira pushed a wide smile into her face. In her fan voice Mira responded, “Yah…Hi!” she squeezed the plush again, “How much do I owe you?”, the girl was not listening, “Can I have a photo. I’m Giselle, and VERA, V ITS MIRA FROM HUNTRIX” the girls shouts made everyone turn their heads and suddenly everyone turned to her; and the sunglasses she wore to hide stemmed foolish.
From the corner of her eye she saw Zoey start towards her through the crowd of people, protectiveness flashed in her eyes. But Rumi grabbed her arm, a silent exchange passed between the singer and the dancer.
Mira then turned to address the fans, “Hi everybody, so nice to see you! I really wish Rumi and Zoey were here cause I’m sure they would have just loved to meet you! But I hope I can be enough!” She flashed her confident smile and winked. The next time Mira looked to the Gimbap stand her girls were nowhere to be seen.
When Mira finally got home she let out a groan the moment she felt the couch sag under her weight. She held up the jelly cat, “She better fucking adore you.” No matter how much she loved her fans, being ambushed with photos and autographs while being sweaty and hungry was exhausting.
On cue her stomach growled, and with the last of her strength she made Ramyun, then took a shower super fast while it cooked. Mira ate the Ramyun in record time then laid back down on the couch.
Just as she was beginning drift off Mira felt a pressure on the couch. Her eyes snapped open. Zoey met her gaze with a lazy grin and crawled over to Mira, who with no hesitation shifted and parted her legs so Zoey could crawl up and before she could flop down onto her chest Mira held out the turtle with a small grin. Zoey’s eyes widened and she squealed, “OH MY GOD, you got me Mr. Bubbles!!!”. Mira looked at Zoey’s face and knew it was all worth it, “Mr. Bubbles?” Zoey let out a giggle and curled into Mira clutching the turtle. Then she murmured into Mira’s skin, “Dont act like you are surprised. He totally looks like a Mr Bubbles.” Mira laughed, then pulled the small girl tighter to her with a sigh. This was a part of their relationship Mira loves so much, the silent moments.
Mira closed her eyes again, taking in the feeling of Zoey in her arms; yet she skillfully ignored the rollercoaster in her chest that was racing through her whole body and the warmth it left behind.
Zoey began to hum, she took Mira’s hand, the that had previously been laid across her stomach. She laced their fingers, unlaced them, and tapped their fingertips together.
Giving in, Mira cracked open her eyes only to see the lyricist staring up at her; still humming, still playing with her fingers.
“I didn’t like that girl at the market, she kept staring at you, and she’s the reason you had to leave us”, Mira bit the side of her cheek to suppress a smile, she wanted to believe Zoey was jealous. So the dancer just tries to pull her in for more cuddles, she resists. The groan Mira releases is cut short when the smaller girl adjusts to sit up on her waist, effortlessly destroying every competent thought in Mira’s mind. Zoey gave her a an intense look, a little curious, a bit tired, and something else deeper that Mira has seen before but never deciphered. “How are you always so cool”, God, her voice is perfection. Mira gave her a bashful smile, “All natural talent I suppose”. Zoey laughs, the noise that incites a feeling in Mira she will not admit too, “Maybe, but still, ” with some hesitation she continues “you laugh differently when your with fans. It’s sweet, no, it’s sexy,” Zoey blushed furiously and Mira let a smirk find her face, “It’s less…” she trailed off again with a mumble and Mira raised an eyebrow, the smile on her face kept growing and couldn’t be played off. “Less what?”, Mira let her voice come out teasing, she let her hand come up and tilt Zoey’s chin so she had to make eye contact, “I’m sorry Darling, but you murmured and I couldn’t”. Zoey’s hand smacked down onto Mira’s mouth, but she didn’t fight against the hand on her chin so Mira had an excellent view of the furious blush on the gorgeous woman on top of her.
They sat in silence, in the tension, and Mira wasn’t sure if it was her fried brain, but she swears Zoey’s face is getting closer, and the hand on her mouth is growing gentler.
“Who wants to watch a movie”, Zoey jumped at Rumi’s voice, “Yay, that sounds great”, her voice was breathy, flushed; it perfectly matched her face.
Mira heard Rumi in the kitchen “MIRA, COME OUT FOR A MOVIE”. She sat up, slightly dislodging Zoey, “I’m right hear”. Rumi looked startled, her eyes flit between Mira’s perfectly trained expression and Zoey’s angry blush. Mira could tell the wheels were spinning in that purple head, and she rolled her eyes at the knowing smirk on her stupid face.
Rumi walked over with a pile of snacks grabbed the remote and acted normal, apart from the snicker that escaped when Zoey attempted to extract herself from Mira, embarrassed, but the older girl was having none of it; Mira wrapped her arms around her waist and lifted Zoey into her lap. Which is where she stayed for the rest of the movie, devoutly retrieving snacks for Mira unprompted, at least till she fell asleep halfway through the movie. The other two girls took turns poking holes in the plot of the movie, each yelling at the tv; yet somehow Zoey stayed sound asleep atop the dancer.
When the movie ended Mira and Rumi finished the snacks and laughed about the stupid plot holes. When it is time for bed Mira was about to take Zoey to bed when a flash cut through the dark of their living room. With a slow turn of her head Mira turned her head to Rumi. The leader had a sly grin, “You’ll thank me later”. Mira shook her head but her gaze drifted back to Zoey’s sleeping form and she felt her gaze soften. Another flash, “Okay demon girl you better run”, with practiced ease Mira lifted Zoey into her arms and chased after Rumi, who gave a startled squawk that turned to a cackle when she snapped yet another photo before slamming her door shut (but was gentle enough to not wake Zoey because this is not the first time Rumi has provoked Mira after Zoey has fallen asleep).
Mira sighed and looked down at the small girl in her arms still clutching the turtle. She walked Zoey to her room, immediately calmed by the blue and green aesthetic, though her heart continued racing. Mira tucked Zoey into bed beside the turtle plush.
Pushing down the familiar feeling, Mira let herself gaze down at the beautiful girl. A smile, warm and genuine was on her face and Mira had no intention of suppressing it. When she is with Zoey smiling and laughing come so easy, but Mira remembers how she left Zoey, Rumi too; and the memory breaks her heart.
Just as Mira went to leave she felt a small hand wrap around her wrist, then next thing she knows Mira is entangled with the rapper. Mira would always be in awe of the small girl’s strength. A sleepy voice hummed in her ear “Stay”, butterflies erupted in Mira’s chest, this is dangerous and she knows it. Yet she could not move, the exhaustion she felt earlier is coming back full force. In this moment the older girl decides, she would confront her feelings for Zoey, the ones that go deeper than friendship.
Mira falls asleep with a dopey grin, holding onto Zoey for dear life.
