Work Header

Days go by so fast, I wanna spend them with you

Summary:

Padmé travels to Hawaii with her sisters and meets Anakin, a surfer who makes her feel things she had never felt before.

It’s just a shame that their romance seemed to have the same expiration date as Anakin’s championship.

— anidala week 2025, day seven: free day!

Notes:

i couldn’t let anidala week go by without posting something about these two who mean the world to me.

so, this fanfic popped into my head yesterday morning after i watched a youtube video about surfers and, while watching, i couldn’t stop thinking about how anakin would make such a good surfer with his tanned skin and blonde hair, so here it is lol. i also follow a popular girl on instagram who’s traveling around hawaii and her content is all about fashion, so she was a big inspiration for padmé in this fic. the title comes from “walking away” by justin bieber, go listen to SWAG btw!

sabé and padmé are fraternal twins, so they look different. imagine natalie portman as padmé and keira knightley as sabé.

enjoy and remember: english isn't my first language.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

They shouldn’t have let Sabé choose the trip destination, that was obvious.

Sola’s wedding would be in three months, and as her bachelorette party, Padmé suggested they should take a trip, and Sabé promptly suggested going to Hawaii.

Everything seemed perfect, of course. Three sisters traveling together, spending their father’s money in a paradisiacal state, and still getting a natural tan while enjoying the beaches seemed like a dream. And it would be. If Sabé had remembered to check the calendar.

The beach was crowded.

With tents set up on the sand, a crowd packed in front of the sea, and iron barriers preventing people from entering the water, although they didn’t seem to want to get in the sea.

There were also dozens of reporters and cameras pointed at the waves where two men were surfing.

Of course, out of all the weeks of the year, the world surfing championship had to happen right when Padmé and her sisters were traveling to Hawaii.

“This is impossible.” Padmé said, angry as she took off her sunglasses and threw them forcefully into the large straw bag she carried on her shoulders. “Sabé, why didn’t you tell us this was happening?” She turned to her twin sister and saw Sabé shrug while Sola sighed.

“I didn’t know it was surfing season.” Sabé tossed her hair back over her shoulders and pushed Padmé to get out of her way, heading toward the beach.

Padmé huffed and walked hard steps behind her, with Sola following. “How do you not know? Look at how many people there are here, this event must be important. They must be talking about it everywhere.”

“Well, I didn’t see anyone talking about anything.”

“How can you stay calm like that knowing you ruined our trip?” Padmé asked angrily.

“Padmé, calm down.” Sola soothed, putting a hand on her shoulder. “Sabé didn’t ruin anything, we still have the whole state to explore. Besides, this championship won’t last all day, we can enjoy the beach when it’s over.”

“But by then the sun will already be gone and I’ll lose my tan.” Padmé said with a pout.

Sola laughed. “We can tan tomorrow.”

“If Padmé has stopped whining, can you guys come? I want to buy something to drink.” Sabé shouted, hands on her hips as she waited a few meters away.

Sola smiled slightly at Padmé and held her little sister’s hand as the three walked to a small wooden stand away from the crowd.

The friendly old man working there sold them three coconuts for the price of two and quickly cleaned a table for the three to sit at. Whether he did that out of kindness or because they were three young women wearing bikinis, no one could say.

“I think he liked you, Sabé.” Sola teased her sister as the old man walked away.

“Ugh, Sola, he must be older than dad.” Sabé made a face, adjusting her bikini strap and putting the straw of her coconut water in her mouth.

“Considering your past relationships, he wouldn’t be much out of the ordinary.” Padmé laughed and joined Sola in teasing. “Your last boyfriend was what? Fifty?”

“Twenty-nine, Padmé.” Sabé said through clenched teeth. “Obi-Wan was twenty-nine.”

“My God, a grandpa.”

“At least I’ve had a boyfriend.”

“What’s the point if it didn’t last two months?”

Sola sighed, watching her sisters argue.

“You two won’t stop with these little fights even on the trip that should be the most fun of my life?”

Seeing her younger sisters shrug and shut up, Sola knew her trick of appealing to their emotions had worked once again.

“Since we can’t tan now or go into the sea, what are we going to do? Go back to the hotel?” Padmé asked after a few minutes of silence. One thing about the Naberrie twins: they never could stay quiet for long.

“You can stay and watch the championship or explore the city.” A male voice spoke behind them.

The three sisters turned around and, in sequence, their eyes widened as they fixed their gaze on the voice’s owner, who was leaning on the wooden counter of the stand.

Padmé opened her mouth but the answer got stuck in her dry throat at the sight in front of her. Blonde hair wet with water dripping from the ends and running down tanned skin, blue eyes fixed on her, a shirt tight on a strong chest, and a smirk… God, that man was a delight.

“Excuse me… you are?” Sola asked.

“Anakin, pleasure, madames.” He answered, still with his eyes fixed on Padmé.

“Nice to meet you, Anakin.” Sola replied. “I’m Sola and these are my sisters Sabé and Padmé.” She introduced them, pointing in their directions as she said their names.

“Do you surf, Anakin?” Sabé asked, nodding toward the blue board resting beside him.

Anakin chuckled softly and shrugged. “Catch a wave here and there.”

Padmé found herself laughing unintentionally, attracted by his natural charm. “Are you participating in this championship?”

If Anakin were a puppy, surely his ears would have perked up and his tail wagging when Padmé addressed him, but as a man, they could only witness his eyes shining and him straightening up before answering her.

“Yes, I am. Actually, my heat starts in a few minutes.” He took his coconut from the old man’s hand and walked to their table, silently asking if he could sit with them with a raised eyebrow. Sola agreed and Padmé had to hold back the little scream she wanted to give when he sat next to her.

“Are you from here?” Padmé asked.

“No, I’m from Margaret River.”

Padmé frowned. “Where is that?”

Anakin laughed. “It’s a small town in Australia.”

Padmé nodded and turned to her sisters, blushing when she saw the little smile on both their faces.

Anakin drank his coconut water and pushed the empty fruit on the table before turning to Padmé. “I know you’re not here for surfing, but what do you think about coming to see me compete?” He asked, taking a strand of her hair that had fallen in front of her face and tucking it behind her ear.

“I don’t know anything about surfing and I don’t really like being in the middle of crowds.”

Anakin laughed at her cute honesty and Sabé and Sola rolled their eyes at their spoiled little sister.

“No need to worry about that, I’ll get all three of you into the VIP.”

And so the three ended up in a fancy cabin, surrounded by people in swimwear, cold drinks, and beach music playing from somewhere above them.

Anakin had left them there and introduced them to some people, saying they were his guests before disappearing to prepare for his “heat.”

Sabé was happy with the variety of drinks served there, Sola was enjoying snacks beside her, but Padmé, although she was having a good time, really wanted to be with Anakin.

It was crazy because, in her twenty-three years of life, Padmé had never shown much interest in having a boyfriend and although she had had her fair share of experiences, none of the men she had been with ever really made her feel electric sparks running through her body like Anakin did without even trying.

“Hey, Padmé, have you ever tried Mai Tai?” Sabé asked, pulling Padmé out of her daydreams and showing her a large menu full of drink varieties.

“Never.” Padmé answered half-dazed. “But it’s in the most ordered section, so it must be good.” She explained, pointing on the menu.

“Hm, I think I’m going to order one then.” Sabé said, lifting her eyes from the menu and focusing on her sister. “You’re not going to want anything since Anakin’s not on the menu, right?”

Padmé nodded before fully understanding her twin sister’s question, blushing annoyed when she realized the hint. Sabé laughed when she saw Padmé’s red face and got closer, squeezing one of her cheeks between her fingers. “Just when I was teasing you for never having a boyfriend, you start a romance with a hot surfer, who would have imagined the trip that was supposed to be the best for Sola will end up being the best for you.”

Padmé slapped her hand away and stepped back. “There’s no romance. Anakin was just friendly, that’s all.”

“He put us in his VIP box, was almost devouring you with his eyes outside, and when we got here he looked at your ass when you walked in front. By the way, where did you get such a tiny bikini? Dad’s going to be mad when he finds out you’re wearing a thong bikini and parading on the beach with your ass out.” Sabé followed her, speaking loudly as if they were alone and making Padmé shrink in embarrassment when people turned their heads toward them.

“Can you talk quietly?” Padmé asked through clenched teeth. “And it’s all lies, Anakin is just being friendly because he saw we’re tourists.”

“That may be true on his part, but you can’t deny you almost jumped to lick the water running down his neck when he sat with us outside.”

“Sabé!”

“Don’t give me that Sabé! Just admit you liked him, Padmé.”

Padmé huffed. “Fine, I liked him so what? You can’t blame me when he’s—” Padmé made a motion with her hands, waving her arms and widening her eyes. “That way.”

“That way how?”

“Hot, Sabé.”

Sabé laughed loudly and opened her mouth to tease her sister, but Sola’s voice calling them interrupted.

“Sabé! Padmé! Come here, Anakin’s about to start!”

They ran back to the big screen on the cabin wall. The place was all open, providing a view of the championship for those who didn’t want to watch on TV, but it was a bit far, so most people were sitting in front of the screen.

Padmé and her sisters were there too, each sitting in a chair, now with drinks in hand, waiting for Anakin to finally appear on camera. It didn’t take long before that happened; soon he was sitting on the board over the sea, waiting for the wave to come.

When the sea got rougher and he and his opponent saw the start of the wave coming from the horizon, both beat their arms, swimming toward it.

Anakin quickly stood on the board, sliding on the wave and zigzagging before gaining balance and standing up, while his opponent missed the timing and was carried backward by the sea.

Anakin slid on the water and enjoyed the wave until the last second, performing maneuvers with mastery that made the crowd cheer on the sand.

Padmé didn’t really understand what he was doing, but if the cheering people liked it, she liked it too.

It seemed hard for her to imagine balancing on a board even on land, if Anakin could do that in an unstable place like the sea, to her it was a huge talent. And he still managed to do maneuvers!

His performance earned him seven points from the judges and he took the lead over the other competitor, who remained with zero points for failing to catch the wave.

The competition continued for the next thirty minutes, with both competitors delivering spectacular maneuvers, but in the end, Anakin was victorious, with thirteen points against ten from the other opponent.

He celebrated in the sea, raising his arms and shouting to his friends on the beach before climbing back on the board and swimming to the sand.

Padmé got up from in front of the television and went to the front of the VIP box, looking at the beach and watching him run across the sand and hug some people, smiling excitedly while his friends lifted him on their shoulders and carried him to the VIP box.

The laughter and celebration continued when he arrived, but Padmé stayed away, watching Anakin enjoy his victory with his friends and feeling kind of shy about how to approach him.

Should she go there and hug him?

No, that was too intimate…

Maybe smile and congratulate him?

Well, she wasn’t given much time to think because Anakin soon appeared in front of her. With a huge smile, wet hair, and the shirt even tighter on his chest. Padmé had to gather a lot of inner strength to stop her eyes from roaming and fixating on his physique.

“And so what did you think?” He asked with a big smile on his face and eyes brighter than Padmé had ever seen.

“I don’t understand much, but what you did was spectacular!” Padmé said excitedly, though her cheeks were flushed. “I can’t even imagine how you manage to stand and balance on a board in the sea. I can barely balance on heels.”

Anakin laughed at her cuteness. “I’ve been doing it since I was six. Twenty years surfing, I guess I have to be good.”

Padmé’s eyes widened. “Since six? And wasn’t that very dangerous?”

“Well, not really… I went with my dad and my brother.” He explained, holding her waist to move her out of the way when someone asked to pass. “We gave my mom some gray hairs, but we never really risked our lives.”

They laughed and without noticing, they were getting closer and closer to each other, Anakin’s hand not leaving her waist, taking advantage that Padmé didn’t seem bothered by the contact at all.

“But what about you? You still haven’t told me anything about your life.” Anakin said, pulling Padmé closer and squeezing the hand on his waist. “I already told you where I come from, what I do…” He ran his hand up and down her skin in a soft caress. “I even brought you here to watch me compete…”

Padmé shivered a little but didn’t pull away; on the contrary, she enjoyed the closeness and Anakin’s cold touch even more.

“Well, there’s not much to say…” Padmé said quietly. “I’m from New York, I’m twenty-three…” She gathered courage and put her hands on his chest, resisting the urge to take off that wet shirt and touch his skin directly. “I graduated a few months ago in fashion design.”

“Fashion design? Wow, sounds cool.”

“It’s something I like to do. I’ve always liked dressing well and creating fun combinations, at college I learned the basics and, you know, got to know the tools and stuff.”

“It suits you.” Anakin said, taking his hand off her waist and holding the pendant of her bikini that was between her breasts. Then he released the small shell and held one of the necklaces she wore, running his finger back and forth on the jewel. “I’ve never seen anyone wearing so many accessories on the beach.”

Enchanted by his intense presence taking over her, Padmé found her lips slightly parted, getting closer and closer to Anakin and breathing heavily the smell of sea on him. “I can take them all off for you if you want…”

Padmé had never been so bold in her life, but the drinks she had drunk, combined with Anakin who seemed to make her worse than pure vodka shots, had made her a little drunk, so she was going to use that as an excuse for the things she said.

“Oh, I will definitely want that.” He almost purred as he got even closer to her, now Padmé was between his open legs, resting her hands on his chest while he slid his hand down her waist and rested it on her ass. “Which hotel are you staying at?”

“I can send you a message with the address if you give me your number…”

Anakin gave a weak chuckle and leaned, resting his face on the junction between her neck and shoulder. “Clever…” He kissed her neck and stepped back, walking back inside the VIP box.

Padmé took a deep breath and closed her eyes to calm down. When she opened them, her sisters were waving at her from afar. Sola was laughing and Sabé seemed about to pull her hair out while making obscene gestures in her direction, opening her mouth and moving her tongue on her cheek while pretending to give a blowjob with a closed fist in front of her mouth.

She raised her middle finger at her twin sister and was about to shout some very rude words when Anakin appeared again in her field of vision, holding out a phone to her.

Padmé raised an eyebrow at him.

“To put your number in.” He explained.

“Oh yes,” she took the phone from his hand and typed her number, smiling softly as she saved his contact with a little heart next to it. “Here it is.”

“A heart?” He laughed when he noticed how she saved the number.

“You can change it if you want.”

“I’ll change it to angel since you look like one.”

Padmé blushed. “Have you ever seen an angel?”

“Never. But my dad once told me they were the most beautiful creatures in the universe… suits you, doesn’t it?” If Padmé’s cheeks were pink before, now they were completely red and burning to Anakin’s joy and amusement, who bent down to kiss one of them. “I have to go now,” he puckered his lips and Padmé frowned sadly. “But I’ll send you a message later and if you want I can take you out tonight. Show you the city and stuff…”

“Just the two of us?” She got closer to Anakin, running her hand along his arm.

“You can bring your sisters if you want. A friend of mine is throwing a party at eleven. We can go out earlier to see the city and stop by his party afterward.”

Padmé nodded. “Sounds good to me.” She stood on tiptoes and kissed the corner of his lips. “See you later then, Anakin.”

“See you later, Padmé.”

No one could say Padmé swayed her hips on purpose and walked away swaying when she moved away from Anakin. Even though she had done exactly that.

𓇼 ⋆.˚ 𓆉 𓆝 𓆡⋆.˚ 𓇼

Padmé had to endure thirty uninterrupted minutes during the car ride from the beach to hotel of her two sisters’ teasing her about Anakin, plus three minutes inside the elevator, and another forty (and counting) since they arrived in the room.

They didn’t seem to get tired of replaying the scene of the two on the beach and didn’t spare details in the acting, adding more and more things each time they acted it out again.

“And when he squeezed her ass, Sola, did you see?” Sabé asked excitedly, burying her face in the pillow while rocking back and forth on Sola’s bed.

Although the room had three beds, none of them was the one they had chosen.

Sabé was lying on Sola’s bed, Sola was sitting on Padmé’s bed, and Padmé was on Sabé’s.

“I saw when he sucked on her neck!” Sola said in a high voice, getting up from the bed, throwing herself next to Sabé, and shaking her by the shoulders.

“He didn’t suck my neck or squeeze my ass!” Padmé said indignantly.

The two didn’t seem to hear, continuing to shake back and forth with huge smiles on their faces.

“But my favorite moment was when he touched her tits…” Sabé whispered with a shocked expression on her face.

“Oh my God, that was the best.” Sola pretended to fan herself with her hands.

“He never squeezed my tits, where did you get that from?” Padmé asked wide-eyed.

“Padmé, we saw his hand on your tits, don’t try to lie.” Sabé accused her, pointing a finger. “What else was his hand doing there if not squeezing your little boobs?”

“Hey! They’re bigger than yours.” Padmé said, irritated, crossing her arms over her chest. “And Anakin didn’t squeeze anything. He was just looking at my necklaces.”

“Oh yes, that’s definitely what it was.” Sola said ironically, rolling her eyes. “Just like the kiss you gave him on the mouth was actually a secret you were telling him, right? But it was so secret you had to say it with his mouth pressed against yours.”

Sabé threw herself backward on the bed laughing at Padmé’s red cheeks while she tried to explain between stammers.

“I didn’t kiss his mouth, it was the corner of his mouth.”

Sola rolled her eyes.

When Padmé finally thought the teasing was over, Sabé jumped up startled when the sound of a new notification filled the room.

The three sisters stared at each other motionless and Padmé didn’t even have a chance to reach her own phone when Sabé waved to Sola, who ran toward Padmé and pinned her on the bed while Sabé ran and grabbed her phone.

Padmé struggled in her sister’s grip and tried to free herself while Sabé stood on her own bed, holding Padmé’s phone, quickly typing her password when she saw the notification from an unsaved number on the lock screen.

“Oh my God, Sola!” she shouted. “It’s from Anakin.”

“What?” Turn it this way, let me see!” Sola answered excited while still holding a struggling Padmé in her arms.

Sabé turned the phone and jumped on the bed with a smile on her face. “I’ll read it for you.” She calmed down, throwing herself sitting on the bed. “Hi, angel. This is Anakin.” Sabé read the message in a deeper voice, trying to imitate Anakin’s tone. “He sent a smiling emoji and a red heart.”

“Angel? My God, you already have nicknames?” Sola teased, releasing Padmé.

“Sabé give me my phone now!”

The twins started a chase around the room, with Padmé running in circles after Sabé, who laughed and dodged the furniture trying to escape her sister.

Sola enjoyed watching them until Sabé tripped over her own legs and fell to the floor, and Padmé took the opportunity to snatch her phone from her hand.

“Padmé, let us see what else he sent…” Sabé whined while rubbing her sore butt.

“You won’t see anything. Anakin wants to talk to me, not you!”

“But with your conversation skills, he will soon not want to talk to you either.” Sabé pointed out.

“He didn’t seem to complain about my conversation skills when his hand was on my ass.”

“Ha! So you admit he was squeezing your ass?” Sola asked.

“Well, that I never denied. I said he didn’t touch my tits.” Padmé said and contemplated her sisters’ shocked faces before running to the bathroom, locking herself in the room to the sound of her sisters’ protesting screams.

The chat with Anakin was already open on her phone and Padmé took at least five minutes and about four messages she deleted and rewrote before sending a simple “Hi!” with a smiling face emoji to him.

Padmé saw the three dots indicating he was typing a response less than a minute later, but they disappeared and appeared several times, and she laughed imagining Anakin, like her, afraid and unsure what to reply.

She almost fell backward when the three dots disappeared one last time and a notification appeared at the top of her screen with Anakin’s name and signaling that he was calling her.

Padmé turned to the mirror and fixed her hair, adjusting her appearance after the chase with Sabé before pressing accept on the video call.

Anakin also seemed to be in the bathroom when the image loaded, wearing a black long-sleeved shirt rolled up to the elbows and still open at the chest, completely unbuttoned. Padmé couldn’t tell if he was wearing shorts or pants but knew they were white.

Anakin looked away from fixing his hair and smiled at the phone when he saw Padmé.

“Hey angel, are you ready?”

“Ready? What do you mean?”

“I said I was going to take you to see the city and then we’d go to my friend’s party.” Anakin explained with a frown.

“I didn’t think it was now,” she said desperately. “Can you wait a little? Just thirty minutes, please? I promise I’ll be ready.”

Faced with her pout and whining voice, Anakin’s expression softened.

“Don’t worry, angel.” He reassured her. “Take all the time you want, I’m ready when you are.”

Padmé smiled. “Thank you.”

They spent a few seconds staring at each other like fools until Anakin shook his head and seemed to snap out of his daydream. “Go get ready. Call me again when you’re ready.”

Padmé nodded and said goodbye with a little kiss toward the screen.

She unlocked the bathroom door and her sisters stood up like meerkats, running to her and bombarding her with questions.

“So what did he want?” Sabé asked.

“He said he’s going to come by to take me for a walk around the city.” Padmé said calmly, walking to her suitcase, throwing it on the bed and opening it while looking for clothes to wear.

“Are we coming too?” Sola asked, pushing Padmé’s clothes to one side of the bed and sitting in front of her.

“No, Sola, you’re not.” Padmé said and saw her sisters sigh in shock.

“But why not?” Sabé asked indignantly. “Did Anakin say we can’t? Is this a date?”

“No, it’s not a date.” Padmé hummed as she went to the mirror holding a dress in front of her body, turning from side to side while deciding if she would wear that outfit. “We’re just going to walk around the city and later we’ll go to a party of a friend of his. You can go to the party, but now I want to go alone with Anakin.”

Sola smiled slyly. “Not a date, but you want to go out alone with him?”

“Exactly. Now stop bothering me and help me get ready.”

Sola and Sabé looked at each other and rolled their eyes but still got up and grabbed the flat iron and a makeup bag to help Padmé get ready.

𓇼 ⋆.˚ 𓆉 𓆝 𓆡⋆.˚ 𓇼

Padmé was ready with light makeup and a black lace dress with floral prints. It was short, reaching the middle of her thighs, and had a small triangular neckline. It was light and perfect for the hot weather there.

She was sitting in the hotel lobby with her sisters waiting for Anakin, who had said on the call that he would arrive in five minutes since the hotel he was staying at was close to hers.

“Don’t be strangers when he gets here, please.” Padmé asked her sisters.

“Strangers? Of course not.” Sabé said.

“Sabé, seriously. I know how much you want to tease me, but do it when we’re alone.”

“It’s okay, Padmé, we won’t say anything, I promise.” Sola said, looking at Sabé seriously until she agreed.

“Yeah, okay, we won’t say anything…”

“Thank you so much.” Padmé smiled gratefully. “I promise I’ll tell you everything when I get back.” Padmé took their hands and the three laughed together.

A few minutes later Anakin finally arrived. Walking casually with his hands in his pockets, wearing sunglasses and the wind blowing his blond hair.

“Hey, madames.” He greeted them one by one, leaving Padmé for last, taking her waist and kissing her cheek, which made her blush. “Hi, angel.”

A small chorus of “Hi, Anakin!” was said sweetly by Sola and Sabé.

“Hi, Ani.” Padmé also replied, blushing even more with her boldness in calling him by a nickname just like he called her.

“Ani?” He asked with a furrowed brow and a small smile.

“You didn’t like it? I can stop if—”

“No, no, I liked it,” he interrupted her. “It’s how my mom calls me.”

Padmé laughed and agreed. “So I can call you that then, right?”

“Of course you can.”

Their eyes locked as if creating a trance that trapped them in a bubble where there was only the two of them and everything else disappeared, focused on each other while forgetting the world. They would have spent long minutes there staring at each other if Sola hadn’t interrupted.

“Excuse me, but if you don’t hurry, you won’t have much time to explore the city.”

“True.” Anakin agreed and held Padmé’s hand. “Let’s go, angel?”

Padmé nodded.

The first place Anakin took her was a market near the hotel, full of fruits and handmade jewelry sold and displayed in stalls along the street.

Padmé’s eyes shone brighter than the sunset on the horizon every time she saw a necklace or bracelet she liked. And Anakin ended up with his hands full of bags with everything she bought.

They had fun eating ice cream and typical foods that made Padmé make faces most of the time, and Anakin almost died of love with her cuteness learning new Hawaiian words.

Now it was night, maybe eight or nine o’clock, the sun had set a long time ago, and they walked side by side in a secluded part of the beach, enjoying each other’s company while holding their sandals in their hands and touching the sand with their feet, the wind blowing their hair and the sea breeze invading their noses.

“How long will you stay here?” Padmé broke the comfortable silence they had.

“Until the end of the championship,” Anakin answered. “After that, I’m going to Abu Dhabi.”

Padmé’s eyes widened. “Wow, that’s pretty far.”

“A little bit.” Anakin laughed. “But I won’t stay there long, just two days. From there I’ll go to Portugal, then El Salvador, and then I’ll go home, to Australia, and stay there for a month.”

“It must be fun to travel the world doing what you love…” Padmé sighed as she looked at the sea. “I’d like to see the world, you know, life outside New York…”

“Come with me.”

“What?” Padmé laughed in disbelief. “We just met this morning.”

“I know,” Anakin pushed her shoulder with his in a playful way. “But I’m not asking you to marry me, am I? It’s just an invitation to travel with me… Sometimes the world is too big and lonely.”

“But what about your friends?”

“I have two or three, but none of them are as fun and beautiful as you.”

Padmé laughed hard, throwing her head back. “You’re crazy or you’re making fun of me.”

“Oh no, I’d be much too frightened to tease a woman so beautiful like you.”

They stared at each other and maybe it was the moonlight and the sea reflected in Anakin’s eyes or Padmé’s extremely pink and delicate lips, but something pulled them toward each other and it took less than half a second for their mouths to be pressed together.

Anakin’s hands seemed to already know how to hold Padmé’s waist by heart and her hands were quick to learn the path to his neck.

Their tongues danced in sync and twirled around each other in a dance that seemed rehearsed. Their kiss fit like nothing before, like two pieces of the same puzzle, two equal halves forming symmetry.

Padmé moaned on Anakin’s lips, arching as she felt his hands caressing her waist and finding the way under her dress to hold her soft butt. He squeezed the flesh and felt it almost slip through his fingers in softness.

Anakin moved away from her mouth and kissed along the entire length of Padmé’s pale neck. She threw her head back, making room for Anakin to do what he wanted and moaning even more when he stopped kissing and started sucking her skin.

“Wait, wait.” Padmé pulled away from him. “Do you really want to do this here?”

“Do what?” Anakin asked with a furrowed brow.

“This.” Padmé pointed between them with raised eyebrows.

Anakin finally realized what she meant and said a small “Ah…” before smiling. “We’re not going to have sex here.”

Padmé’s cheeks turned pink. “No? Then why did you…”

“We were just kissing.” He explained. “You didn’t think I was going to have sex with you in the middle of the beach, did you?”

“Well, who knows…”

“I’m not an exhibitionist.” Anakin joked.

He took the phone from his pants pocket and looked at the time, seeing that there were only a few minutes left until his friend’s party.

After Padmé finished fixing her messy hair and smoothed the wrinkled fabric of the dress caused by Anakin’s hands, they held hands and went back to Padmé’s hotel.

After the outing and the kiss, Padmé and Anakin walked back to her hotel, where they met Sabé and Sola, and together, the four went to his friend’s party.

From that day on, the four of them, along with some other friends of Anakin they had met at the party, had become very close, going on outings and exploring the state, enjoying the six days of “time off” that Anakin had from the championship.

Most of the time, they went out as a group, but once in a while Anakin and Padmé managed to sneak away and enjoy each other’s company alone, stealing kisses here and there.

Those were, without a doubt, the best vacations she had ever had, and Anakin had never been so happy on a trip to Hawaii as he was on that one.

It was as if they were soulmates, as if they knew each other from past lives and fit perfectly together.

Soon the elimination phase of the surf championship arrived, and Anakin advanced with ease, just like in the quarterfinals and semifinals, and before they knew it, the final would be the next day and nine days had passed.

They were closer than ever, Padmé’s heart raced wildly every time she thought of Anakin, and his hands sweated and trembled when he was near her. That was passion, clear and definitely shining in neon letters. But although it was a good and beautiful feeling, bad things still troubled them. Padmé was afraid of how quickly she fell for Anakin and feared the tomorrow when he would have to leave for the other side of the world, maybe not even remembering her. Anakin was afraid of being separated from her and never seeing her again, that his feelings were weak and would disappear as fast as they appeared.

All these things kept them awake late into the night. Looking at the ceiling and thinking about what the future would hold. If it was normal to feel so quickly for someone. If it was worth trying something more.

It did not take long for their questions to be answered.

It was the day of the final, and Padmé was more nervous than ever. Whether or not he reciprocated her feelings, she would confess what she felt to Anakin after the championship ended. With trembling and sweaty hands, she stared at the rough sea where Anakin performed more and more maneuvers, enchanting the judges who gave him the highest points against his opponent.

He won easily, scoring nineteen points against thirteen from the other competitor. He ran out of the water and dodged his friends who ran to hug him, running straight to hug Padmé who shrank with a laugh as she received him soaking wet in her arms.

“You’re making me wet, Anakin, stop it.” Padmé laughed while he held her in an embrace.

“That has been my intention since we met, angel.”

He was taken away soon after, proudly raising the flag of his country as they placed an orchid lei around his neck and a haku lei on his head. Anakin gave an emotional speech and looked into Padmé’s eyes when he said he was grateful for everything he had experienced during his time in Hawaii, he entered the sea when he finished and thanked the sacred place with his arms raised.

Padmé watched it all with a heavy heart, and although she was happy for him, she was afraid of what would happen from then on.

“Hey, angel, you’re quiet.” Anakin approached her at his farewell party that his friends had organized. There was a drink in his hand and his shirt had been gone for hours. Padmé had never found him so attractive as at that moment.

After the celebration on the beach, Anakin’s friends decided he couldn’t travel without a party, so there they were. All in a beach house enjoying loud music and drinking. Padmé was in a distant corner until Anakin arrived, watching Sola and Sabé having fun on the dance floor.

“Ani, I think we need to talk…” she said and watched his expression change as the haze of the drink passed and he understood what the conversation was probably about.

“Angel, I- look-”

“No, Anakin, let me talk.” Padmé interrupted him. She took a deep breath and gathered courage. “This has been the best vacation of my life and you are one of the most special people I’ve ever met.” She held his hands. “I know I have to leave. That you have to leave, that you will travel the world and we probably will never see each other again, but I can’t help feeling this way.”

She lowered her head and closed her eyes, breathing deeply before looking at him again.

“I love you, Anakin.” Padmé said. “I truly and deeply love you. And I don’t care that we’ve known each other for ten days,” she laughed. “I know I will never feel this way for anyone else.”

He widened his eyes for a second and remained silent. Padmé felt her chest tighten, already tasting the bitter flavor of rejection rising up her throat.

But before any fear took over, Anakin grabbed her face with both hands while kissing her passionately. He didn’t finish his drink, he just threw the glass into a nearby flower vase and kissed her.

His hand touched her face firmly and tenderly at the same time, his fingers sliding down to her neck as he pressed their mouths together urgently. Without hesitation. An urgent but sweet kiss, full of what he didn’t know how to express in words.

His lips were warm, tasting of alcohol and his scent was always of the sea. Anakin’s hands slid down her waist, pulling her against his body, and Padmé clung to him as if he were her lifeline.

In the middle of the kiss, still pressed against her, Anakin murmured against her lips, his voice low and hoarse. “I love you too.”

It was almost a whisper, but Padmé heard it so loudly in her heart it was like a shout.

She smiled in the middle of the kiss, her fingers tangling in his messy hair, and pulled his face back with more hunger, more certainty.

Their bodies were already too close to pretend they didn’t know what they wanted. He parted her lips and held her tighter by the waist, guiding them both through the crowded hallway and dodging others as they climbed the stairs to the upper floor.

She laughed when she saw Anakin’s desperation at every locked door he tried unsuccessfully to open, but she saw the relief in his eyes when he turned a doorknob at the end of the hall and the door opened.

When they entered the room, he closed the door and leaned her against it for a moment, his eyes meeting hers as if he still couldn’t believe this was really happening.

Padmé nodded with a smile on her face and bright eyes, and Anakin needed nothing more to press his lips to hers again.

She ran her hands over his tanned chest and dug her nails into the hard muscle. “You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to do this since the first time we met.”

Anakin laughed and slid his hands down her waist, grabbing one of her breasts in a tight grip. “I felt the same way.”

They kissed again and blindly made their way toward the bed, tearing off their remaining clothes until they were naked on the bed.

Padmé slipped her fingers inside herself while watching Anakin unwrap a condom over his penis, stroking himself a few times before positioning himself between her legs.

When he finally slid inside her, it was as if the universe was in harmony. With a planetary alignment happening above them and the stars shining brighter behind their closed eyes. Every thrust of Anakin inside her womb made Padmé see stars growing brighter and brighter.

They came together, in sync, with long drawn-out moans as they kissed slowly, licking each other’s tongues and letting the sounds they made get lost in each other’s mouths.

Anakin pulled out of her and removed the condom, throwing himself beside Padmé on the bed and pulling her into his arms.

“Want to travel the world with me now?” he asked quietly, his head buried in her hair.

“I’ll go anywhere with you.”

Padmé visited the United Arab Emirates, Europe, and South America, but without a doubt, Australia was her favorite place.

Anakin seemed to shine brighter there. It was as if he had been made for that place. To spend the day on the beaches and in the sun, with his hair shining and wet while he smiled at her with a smile brighter than his blue eyes.

“Ani, I can’t,” she whined, her legs trembling and folded on top of the board while Anakin tried in vain to teach her how to surf.

“You need to stay relaxed, angel.” He spoke patiently, sitting on his own board next to her. “You don’t need to lock your knee like that, I won’t let you fall.”

Padmé whined more. “But I’m not just afraid of falling… what if the sea takes me away when you’re not watching?”

Anakin laughed, throwing his head back. “That will never happen. The sea is my friend, it wouldn’t take my greatest treasure from me.”

Padmé’s gaze softened and she agreed. “Okay, I’ll try seriously this time.”

Anakin smiled at her and let go. “Remember what I taught you. Support on the back leg, look forward, and remember I won’t let you get hurt.”

Padmé nodded determinedly and lay down on the board, waiting for the wave forming on the horizon.

The water came toward her and she prepared herself, furrowing her brow and paddling with her arms to catch the wave. When it formed, Padmé stood up on her arms and stretched her legs, smiling when she realized she was standing.

She shifted her focus and looked at Anakin, raising her arms to him in celebration, seeing that she was finally surfing, but losing balance seconds later, falling backward as the sea carried her board to the sand.

Anakin swam to her and grabbed her by the waist, smiling happily when she brushed the hair from her face and gave him a little kiss on the mouth.

“Did you see, Ani? I managed to surf. I stood up by myself.” She said excitedly, doing a little dance in his arms.

“I saw, angel. If you keep this up, in a few years you’ll be better than me.”

Padmé looked at him suspiciously. “You’ll never stop joking with me, will you?”

“Never.”

He showered her with kisses and threw himself back into the sea, pulling her along without breaking their lips apart, feeling the taste of salt enter his mouth.

With the sun shining and the sea as company, Anakin and Padmé were happy… and eternally grateful for that trip to Hawaii.
