Work Text:

It's chilly up there.

Jinx is so tired. Everything she touched crumbled, she couldn't do anything right. What point would there be in keeping up that farce? She couldn't protect anything dear to her. It always ended up the same.

It's a selfish decision - she knows it will hurt her sister (stop it, she doesn't care), but Jinx has held on just for her for way too long. Each day is a torment, the voices in her head getting louder and louder, she just wants everything to shut the fuck up—

Despite everything, there's a flicker of something inside her. Not hope. A small yearning to stay, a desire to be saved, to start over and make everything right— but she knows it's impossible. She hurt so many people beyond return, she could never redo her wrongs. She doesn't deserve a chance.

Also, it would be so, so tiring. And she just wants to rest.

Vi— Vi will manage. Maybe she will mourn her for a while but she will get over it soon enough. (She is strong. Always has been, for the both of them. Much more than Jinx could ever be.) She has her own life, has Caitlyn...

Besides, her sister wants Powder.

Not Jinx.

In the past— in the past, she kept holding on for Violet. She was silently thinking they would reunite and everything would turn back to how it used to be. As if the passage of time hasn't changed a thing between them. A childish fairytale, yes, but it was the only thing that kept her going.

Now she knows the truth. That she's dragging Vi down - preventing her from a happy life (liar, she loves you), reminding her of all the traumas and constantly bringing on new problems. And because she loves Vi dearly — loves her more than any other person in the world — she knows what she has to do.

(Honestly, it will benefit the both of them.)

The last step forward comes easy.
