Chapter Text
Flashes of magic and energy lit up the night, painting the ruined harbour of Madripoor in flashes of light that flickered across shattered cranes and scorched walls. The few remaining lamps glowed weakly through the smoke, as the black market’s broken remnants trembled with each devastating blow that shook the docks. Thick smoke rose into the air, heavy with ash, oil, and the shriek of straining machinery.
Silver wings cut across the flame-lit sky, briefly catching stray light before slipping into darkness again. Sam Wilson flew low between twisted cranes and shattered containers, his shield raised to deflect the energy blasts chasing him. Struggling to stay calm, he barked orders through his communicator, fighting to turn chaos into something resembling a plan.
A roar of thunder marked Thor’s arrival. Lightning danced across the sky as he slammed into the enemy ranks, the living storm unleashed. Mjolnir flew from his hand, smashing into a group of foes with a boom that seemed to shake the very earth.
On the ground, metal shrieked as She-Hulk hurled another mech into a pile of overturned crates. Sparks danced around her as she smashed through a wall and charged forward, searching for her next target.
In the wake of her destruction, a flicker of movement darted between the mechs, slipping through gaps in their armor and delicate inner mechanisms. One moment no bigger than a grain of dust, vanishing beneath the crushing stride of a towering machine, the next, Ant-Man loomed over the wreckage, tearing apart a drone with a single, devastating blow as metal and fire rained down.
And at the center of the battlefield, where the smoke was thickest and enemies swarmed like carrion drawn to a fresh kill, reality itself seemed to bend under the weight of arcane forces. Alone in a whirlwind of magic and machinery, Doctor Strange wove patterns of light with effortless grace. Shimmering sigils blazed through the air, shields of energy, and portals that bent space itself. Explosions vanished into nothingness, only to erupt again behind enemy lines, turning the enemy’s fire back upon them.
But still they came.
Partially hidden between shattered crates and twisted metal, a large crystal could be seen, pulsing softly with a greenish light that caused the surrounding smoke to glow with an eerie emerald hue. “The crystal! We need to secure it before Doom’s forces reach it!” Sam warned.
Thor was already moving, Mjolnir crackling with electricity as he cleared a path. “Let them come!” he shouted, swinging the hammer in wide arc that sent drones crashing into the wreckage.
Strange conjured a shimmering barrier over the area, runes locking into place as bolts of plasma fire struck harmlessly against it. “That will slow them, though not for long. The crystal’s frequency is drawing them in.”
She-Hulk charged ahead, tossing aside the remnants of a downed mech as if it weighed nothing. “Then let’s make this quick!” she growled, bracing herself beside the crate, green muscles coiled, ready to defend it.
Ant-Man landed beside her in giant form with a ground-shaking thud. “Uh, so what’s the plan? Because we’re about ten seconds from getting swarmed again!”
Sam swooped lower, shield raised as another volley of enemy fire streaked past him. “Strange! We need to..."
But before the order left his lips, Thor surged forward with a roar, lightning crackling wildly around Mjolnir. “By the gods, let us end this!” he bellowed, hurling the hammer straight at the cluster of machines attacking the crate.
"Thor, wait..." Dr. Strange called out, but it was too late.
The blast was powerful. Too powerful. The shockwave shattered what remained of the crate, sending shards of metal and debris flying in all directions. The crystal bounced free, skittering across the cracked concrete...
... only for one of the sleeker drones, faster and smarter than the rest, to take advantage of the chaos and dive from above. Its clawed appendages snatched up the crystal in a single smooth motion, and before the team could react, it shot skyward on a burst of plasma thrusters.
“No!” Sam shouted, taking off after it, but a fresh wave of drones dropped from the air, forming a tight wall between him and the fleeing thief. Energy blasts rained down, forcing him to pull back as his shield rang with the impacts.
Strange tried to open a portal in the drone’s path, but the enemy forces pressed in too close, taking over his attention. “They were ready for this,” he hissed, spinning another shield into place as energy blast peppered the ground around him.
Ant-Man, still giant-sized, swung at the nearest bots, smashing two to the ground... but there were simply too many! She-Hulk snarled in frustration, ripping a mech in half, green eyes blazing.
"Oops," Thor mumbled.
The stolen crystal’s light faded into the clouds above, carried off by Doom’s machine. And with it, the battle’s momentum shifted. The Avengers stood surrounded, the hum of enemy engines filling the night like a promise of more ruin to come.
The roar of battle echoed through the ruined port, the air thick with smoke and fire.
And then, slowly, at first barely noticeably, everything began to falter. Blaster bolts stretched into lines of molten light. The roar of engines deepened, like a beast sinking underwater. Sparks drifted, frozen mid-fall. Thor's hammer slowed and stopped mid-flight, the lightning sluggishly crackling in a silent arc. Strange’s runes hovered, unfinished. She-Hulk, muscles strainied as she tore through another mech, hung motionless, suspended in mid-air.
And then... nothing. A tableau of destruction, with flames halted in mid-flare, smoke lingering in twisted spirals, and sparks scattered like stars across the night. The storm of battle collapsing into perfect, suffocating silence...

“Really, Thor?" A deep voice drawled. "Oops?! This is the part where I question if you ever actually think before swinging that hammer."
There was no reply, no reaction. The Avengers remained locked in the moment.
A sigh echoed through the stillness.
The voice drifted back, smooth as a serpent’s whisper, “I suppose if you want something done properly...”
The frozen scene shimmered, reality rippling like the surface of a disturbed pond. Sparks returned to their sources. Shattered metal reassembled itself, flying back into place. The drone, crystal clutched in its claw, reversed course, its stolen prize slipping from its grasp as the world rewound. The explosion became implosion, flames were sucked back into ruptured machines.
The voice curled in the air. “Let's try this again, shall we?"
And with that, time surged forward, sound returning in a rush, motion snapping back to life. The Avengers moved as if nothing had happened, unaware that fate had been rewritten by unseen hands.
“The crystal! We need to secure it before Doom’s forces reach it!” Sam warned.
Thor was already moving, Mjolnir crackling with electricity as he cleared a path. “Let them come!” he shouted, swinging the hammer in wide arc that sent the drones crashing into the wreckage. Sparks flew as metal met metal, the night alive with the fury of battle...
... but in the chaos, one mech twisted unexpectedly, its trajectory changing at the last instant. It slammed into a wall dangerously close to Dr Strange, showering him in debris and breaking his focus for the briefest of moments. The precise patterns of his magic faltered, the shimmering sigils around him flickering out.
And that was all it took.
From the smoke and wreckage, another drone, sleeker, smarter than the rest, darted forward. Before anyone could react, its clawed appendages closed around the Crystal, wrenching it free from the ruins where the Avengers had tried to protect it.
With a burst of thrusters, it shot skyward, the green glow of the Crystal fading into the night as it disappeared into the clouds, and with it, the fragile advantage the Avengers had fought so hard to hold...
... the roar of battle quieted, fading into the stillness. Fire and smoke flickered and froze in the air, sparks hovered like stars scattered in the darkness. The chaos of the battlefield stopped in a single, silent moment as time itself ground to a halt again.
.
.
“Oh, well done, Thor,” the voice echoed through the quiet, dripping with sarcasm. “Truly, your talent for ruining everything knows no bounds. One more time."
“The crystal! We need to secure it before Doom’s forces reach it!” Sam warned.

But before the order left his lips, Thor surged forward with a roar, lightning crackling wildly around Mjolnir. “By the gods, let us end this!” he bellowed, lifting the hammer to vanquish the enemy...
... but this time Dr. Strange conjured a glowing barrier in front of him.
“No, Thor!” the sorcerer snapped, his voice cutting through the roar of battle. He turned sharply, one hand ready to reinforce the barrier before Thor’s reckless charge brought it down. But the air around them shimmered with unstable magic, runes flickering as he struggled to contain the uncontrollable. For a heartbeat, just a heartbeat, his gaze left the crate, drawn to the wild arcs of lightning, to the chaos threatening to spiral beyond control.
And through the smoke and wreckage, one of the drones darted low, fast as a striking serpent. It slipped past the faltering edge of Strange’s shield, claws snapping shut around the Crystal.
Before anyone could react, its thrusters flared and it shot skyward, the green glow of the Crystal fading into the clouds. The Avengers could only lead him away with their eyes as the other mechs moved to attack with renewed fierceness....
... and stopped, suspended mid-air, smoke curled around them, frozen in place. The Avengers caught paused in various stages of disbelief as the chaos around them halted, sound and motion silenced in an instant.
.
.
A silky voice cut through the silence.
"Looks like the so-called Sorcerer Supreme isn’t quite so supreme after all. Who would have thought." A soft, exaggerated sigh filled the pause. "This is becoming embarrassing. Alright... again."
The loop restarted.
“The crystal! We need to secure it before Doom’s forces reach it!” Sam warned.

Before he could finish, a sudden explosion rocked the perimeter, sending debris and shockwaves through the battlefield. Dust and smoke billowed up, momentarily obscuring their vision and choking the air. Amidst the swirling chaos the Avengers scrambled to maintain their positions, muscles tensed and senses heightened, the sudden cloud of debris disorienting them.
Within the haze, a small, agile drone slipped through the confusion, weaving effortlessly between the combatants.
Its mechanical claws closed tightly around the Crystal, pulsing faintly with green light. Before anyone could react, it fired its thrusters and shot skyward, the eerie glow fading swiftly into the smoke-choked sky.
Sam’s shout tore through the tumult. “Nooooo0000OOOOOO〇〇〇...
... a blaster shot, streaking straight for his back, froze inches from its mark, its glow trapped in the air. Shards of debris hovered over the shattered earth, and the ground’s shaking rage faded to a breathless, hollow silence.
.
.
From somewhere unseen, a voice slipped through the stillness, heavy with exasperation.
“You really are making this harder than it needs to be. One. Last. Time.”
The loop restarted.
Partially hidden between shattered panels and twisted metal, a large crystal could be seen, pulsing softly with a greenish light that caused the surrounding smoke to glow with an eerie emerald hue.

But before the order left his lips, Thor surged forward with a roar, lightning crackling wildly around Mjolnir. “By the gods, let us end this!” he bellowed, hurling the hammer straight at the cluster of machines attacking the crate.
The hammer struck with a deafening crack of thunder, a storm of lightning tearing through the remaining drones. The searing bolt leapt from machine to machine, branching out across the battlefield like a living web of light. Sparks exploded as each drone it touched was torn apart, metal rupturing and circuits frying in an instant. The flash of power lit up the smoke-choked sky, and in its wake, silence fell, the enemy ranks reduced to smoldering wreckage scattered across the ground.
She-Hulk reached into the wreckage, prying apart a twisted panel. Her hand closed around the Crystal, now pulsing steadily in her grip. “Got it,” she said, a grin breaking through the grime on her face.
Sam circled overhead, scanning for new threats. “Nice work, everyone. Let’s get this thing out of here before Doom sends another wave.”
Strange lowered his hands, the barrier dissolving as the immediate danger passed. “For once, Thor, your timing was... ideal.”
Thor smirked, resting Mjolnir on his shoulder. “Of course it was. Victory comes easily when the God of Thunder leads the charge.”
Somewhere beyond the borders of the worlds, in the remnants of the Citadel at the End of Time, the God of Stories sat on his jagged stone throne. Still, as though carved from the very rock beneath him, a silent guardian at the edge of all things. Around him stretched endless void where timelines coiled and split, rivers of green fire winding through the dark, their glow casting shifting patterns across his face. The air hummed with silent power, heavy with the weight of all that had been and all that could yet be.
Finally, he slowly lifted his face toward the flickering strands of time, and as his eyes opened, a faint, knowing smile touched his lips.
“Ah, brother,” he said softly, his voice filled with dry amusement. “Forever the hammer, never a thought. But I suppose even a blunt instrument has its use.”
He leaned back, fingers brushing tenderly across a newborn strand of time. The thread quivered beneath his touch, the faintest ripple spreading outward, setting entire worlds pulsing with his power.
“Let’s see where the next tale leads us,” he whispered.
