Work Text:
Invisible
Sometimes veiled but not imperceptible
I am shy glances, gentle touches, and pink-dusted cheeks
I am the furnaces made from the heart and minds of those I inhabit
A life constructed together, a mix-match of people, souls, and emotions
A puzzle of culture, traditions, experiences, beliefs, and history
A puzzle that we, together, get to build from the shy conversations of strangers
Forged like a piece of steel and copper, made into something better when together
A loyal companion
A guardian
A protector
A savior
A shoulder to cry on
A better person than me
Trekking the ridges of volcanos, suffocating in embers to find you
Lungs seizing from traveling through the yawning expanse of ocean before me
Feet aching from hiking through the towering hills and lowest gullies
For you
To ensure your safety, your security, your happiness
You make me invincible
People made of clay and universe soot, surging to be something more
Someone more
Someone worthy of you
But sometimes, not worthy enough
Unrequited
You fell away from me when you found yourself
Walked away with your hands in your pockets with only a side-glance backward
A shallow grave dug by me, dirt under my nails, clawing to bury myself away from your disappointment, and away from my shame
A dim-lit bedroom with shaking hands and damp eyelashes
Bittersweet tragedies with every move that you make, and every syllable that comes from your lips
A carousel ride turned cataclysmic, incapable of acquitting myself from the constant spinning
But if spinning, swinging, and spiraling keeps me close to you, I want nothing else
Because nothing and no-one else could compare to you
Because you are something more
Visions of shimmering, golden gods standing before me
Taller than the timber that surrounds me, they become the light
Adorned with shining eyes that hold an endless basin of all life
Magnificent faces, all different, but none better than another
Gentle hands that show infinite mercy, support, and kindness
A tremendous power, able to rip the world apart with a singular motion
However, humble in who you are and the actions you take
Unrivaled by anyone else
You belong beside them
To rule over them
Because even as gods, you merit so much more
Even in pulsing blood, a lifeline we share
Despite yours being a heavenly cerulean and mine a common red
You decide to stay
Sit by my side, hold my hand, kiss both cheeks
When we touch, we share blood, we share life
Our beings connect in intimacy, tenderly, sweetly
We become a beautiful lavender, a mixture of my simple and your celestial
Lilac painted across our cheeks, our souls, and the sky we sit under
And nothing else matters
