Work Text:
Remus’ eyes filled with tears, his throat felt as if it was being ripped apart from how much he had been screaming. The tears slowly leaked down his cheeks, and Remus had to try to calm his breathing. He knew from the concerned look on Deceit’s face as he watched his fellow dark side.
“Please… you need to remember…” Remus mumbled, staring down at Roman, tied to one of the beams with chains. Remus didn’t want it to come down to this, but what other choice did he have?
Roman glared up at his brother, ignoring how his muscles ached from struggling.
Why would Remus do this? Patton was right all along, Remus truly is crazy. Both by kidnapping Roman, and the fact that he claimed they used to be one… they never had been. And Roman didn’t even like Remus! How would they have been one side.
“Remember what? That my own demented brother kidnapped me and chained me in a tower so that he could poison my mind with lies? Why would I ever want to remember!” Roman snapped out, and Remus stared at Roman with those glazed eyes as tears continued to slip down his cheeks.
“Remus, I’m sorry-”
“Let’s just go home,” Remus cut off Deceit, snapping his fingers to make Roman disappear. He’d appear in his room, falling to the floor with a grunt.
Remus pulled Deceit and himself out of the Imagination. His tears never slowed, and he felt far worse than he had when they had started. He felt more broken. As if even the part of creativity that he was just shattered some more.
He clung onto Deceit as the side hugged Remus, whispering comforting words into Remus’ ear. Whispering reassurances that Remus knew were lies.
Remus sniffed. Maybe he should believe them. Believe that one day Roman would remember all their fond memories. That Roman still, deep down, loved Remus as much as Remus loved him. That Roman would remember King with time.
He fell asleep crying into Deceit’s chest, the comforting lies swirling in Remus’ head. He knew they were not real. Knew he was only getting his hopes up.
But it felt better than the pain.
