Greedy

Summary:

King of Greed, but make it JoongHwa.

"I don't care about the fancy penthouse, the branded clothes, or whatever it is. I would rather have a husband. A real one, not just in name." Seonghwa has waited for years, for Hongjoong to choose him over his work, to prioritize their love. On their ten-year anniversary, Seonghwa finally stops waiting. He's tired, defeated, and ready to walk away from a love consumed by greed.

Notes:

This is heavily inspired by King of Greed by Ana Huang.

For some reason, I thought that Seonghwa and Hongjoong are fitting for this kind of trope so here I am writting my first ATEEZ AU.

I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1: Dull Ache: Seonghwa

Chapter Text

Once upon a time, I loved my husband.

Once upon a time, it was a long time ago, and now, Seonghwa watched his husband walk through the door for the first time in weeks. Instead of feeling overwhelmed with worry and love, there was only a dull ache in his chest.

“You’re early,” Seonghwa softly voiced out. It was past midnight. “How was work?”

“Fine.” Hongjoong gruffed as he shrugged off his jacket, “Same old, same old.”

Seonghwa watches as Hongjoong discards his piece of clothing without care before walking towards him to lean down and give a kiss. The smell of Hongjoong’s cologne filled Seonghwa’s lungs, it was the same scent of cologne that Seonghwa had gifted him a decade ago.

“Did you hang out with the others?” Hongjoong asks, his eyes trailing over a couple of wine glass that sits on the coffee table.

“Just Wooyoung and Yunho,” Seonghwa softly said as he looked at Hongjoong.

“Sounds nice.” Hongjoong voices out, but his focus has shifted.

Seonghwa takes a heavy breath. He loves his husband; there’s no doubt, they’ve been together for over 10 years, going through thick and thin together, but right now, there’s doubt in his chest whenever he sees his husband.

“Joong” Seonghwa softly calls out, earning a hum. “Don’t forget our trip this weekend. We have dinner on Friday night.”

“I won’t,” Hongjoong replied curtly, his focus on his phone unwavering.

“Joong” Seonghwa voiced firmly. “It’s important.”

“Hwa, I promise. I won’t forget” Hongjoong finally looked back at Seonghwa, “I can’t believe it’s been 10 years.”

Hope filled Seonghwa’s chest, his eyes sparkled as a soft smile graced his face as he looks at Hongjoong.

“Yeah, can’t believe it’s been 10 years.” Seonghwa breathed out, “Are you hungry? Do you want me to heat up dinner?”

“Hmm,” Hongjoong focuses back on his phone, “I’m good, I’ll head up to the office before bed, okay?”

“But…” Seonghwa croaks out, I thought you’re done with work for the day? Isn’t that why you’re home?

Before Seonghwa has the chance to continue speaking, Hongjoong is out of his sight. The dull ache is now back on his chest as he stares at the empty space.
