The Melody of an Accident

Summary:

It’s Siebren’s first mission after being rescued from Talon, and Tracer has taken it upon herself to keep him grounded. Funny how that doesn’t quite happen.

Notes:

WOW THIS THING IS OLD ASF
I wrote this like almost two years ago?? Holy shit.
Yeah I’ll post it ig

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Alright! Now I know this if your first big mission away from talon, but don’t worry big guy! You stick by me and everything will be just fine!”
Tracers chipper voice rang through the mostly empty section of the Orca. They had already landed and were almost geared up for another mission against the remaining forces of a Talon but Sigma was still floating in the most cramped area of the ship. She zipped over and gave him a signature, poster worthy smile. He simply stared blankly forward, not quite looking at her or anything else in the quiet corner. Her smile faded and she reached a hand out to him.
“Hey, are you ok Siebren? You’re looking a little lost.”
His head rolled in her direction, his eyes staying focused on one spot for a moment before he blinked and seemed to see her.
“Ah, Lena. My apologies. My mind is not quite where it should be I’m afraid. I’m a bit.. lost, as doctor Zeigler would put it.”
She patted his hand (just about the only thing she could reach with his height).
“It’ll be ok! We’re here on the drop ship now, and we just need to get done getting ready for the mission. I think the only person left is Pharah with all her armor. We’re really just waiting on command to patch in and tell us we’re good to go!”
He nodded, Murmuring his thanks as his attention again drifted away from her. She was about to speak up and ask him if something was wrong when he turned to her, staring through her blankly.
“Lena… do you. Do you hear that music?”
She didn’t say anything at first. Sucking in a breath as the cacophony of sound that she tried so hard to ignore came crashing to the forefront of her mind. It was wild and tripping over itself in a rush of forwards and backwards. She dug the palms of her hands into her eyes as the melody screeched at her. It wouldn’t do any good of course. She’d figured that out a long time ago when she had been lost in the Slipstream accident.
A gentle hand on her shoulder snapped her back to reality. The melody remained, but it was much quieter. Fading into a buzz of background static as she focused on Seibren. A soft, soothing hum coming from the tank of a man beside her. She was here, she was present. Her hands gripped her chronal accelerator so hard she thought it might crack in half right then and there.
“Yeah. Yeah I can hear the music…”
The crackle of radio static and the sharp voice of Morrison in her ear made her jump.
“Come on, time to move.”
Even though she said it she didn’t move for a minute. The fire that burned in her was down to a candle glow. She felt tired and heavy. The melody pounding a steady beat behind her eyes. Siebren’s squeezed her shoulder before letting his hand drop. She tried to smile at him but it came out more of a grimace than anything else.
“Let’s just. Get this over with right?”
“Of course” he returned her smile and started to float towards the ships bay. “If you wish we can discuss our, anomalies over tea sometime. Perhaps it will help us both.”
She was left standing there alone. The melody picked up for a second before she blinked away back to her team.

Notes:

Chapter two will be out soon! It’s half written but I’d like to edit it first lol.
I love thinking about their accidents and how they’re similar and so different.
