Chapter Text

The morning was cool but the sun was as bright as ever. It beamed through the curtains, straight onto Lucy's bed. She lay tangled in her crisp white sheets. Her alarm went off, the phone read 5am. She knew today was a big day, so staying in bed and snoozing her alarm for 20 minutes definitely wasn't an option. Lucy sat up and stretched, she leant over and gave Narla some love before her phone pinged.

Jordan and Lucy. S Group chat.

The 3 best friends

Jordan: Lucy you better be up, I'm on my way over to pick you up.

Lucy. S: Lucy please don't forget the rings!!!

"Oh shit" She shot up and ran into the bathroom to shower and get ready.

20 minutes later, there was a knock at the door. Lucy ran down the stairs, missing the couple at the bottom. She answered the door breathless. "I knew it Bronze, when I sent that text you were still in bed!" Jordan laughed smacking Lucy's arm as she walked past her and into the living room. "Well Good Morning to you too. How long have we got?" Lucy questioned while getting two cups out of the cupboard. Pouring the fresh coffee, Jordan sat on the breakfast stool and pulled out her phone to check the time. "We have half an hour until we need to be at Stani's, what do you have left to do? Can I help with anything?" Lucy gave Jordan her coffee and hopped onto the stool next to her. "I just have to get my outfit, pack a bag... oh and the rings. Can't forget them" Lucy laughed.

1 hour passed.

Jordan and Lucy had made it to Lucy's house and were getting ready for the wedding. The champagne was flowing nicely at 9am, music was on in the background and the countdown began. Her best friend was getting married in a few hours and she was going to be there to witness that. The thought of that was slightly overwhelming to Lucy, she knew it was going to be a day full of emotion. Her childhood best friend was in a relationship with her best friend, she was happy, content and now they were going to spend the rest of their lives together. Lucy wanted that with someone. She had so much love to give, so much... she was just waiting for the right person to come along.

It was 12pm and the girls were getting the finishing touches done, Lucy was pulling on her blazer when her best friend walked into the room wearing her wedding dress. Lucy opened her mouth but no words came out, she just burst into tears.

"Oh Luce, come here" Stani pulled her in for a hug, Lucy held her tight and softly whispered "I'm just so happy you have someone who makes you happy. I'm going to be a wreck all day" she laughed half heartedly, knowing that was the truth. As they pulled away Lucy wiped her eyes and looked in the mirror to see if her make-up had spoilt, it hadn't.

"That suit really shows off your muscles Luce, wow! There's going to be girls fighting over you tonight" Stani jabbed Lucy's stomach lightly. Taking a sip of her drink and shaking her head Lucy replied "Nope, not tonight. This night is celebrating my best friend getting married."

"Huh, we'll see about that" Jordan burst out laughing. She handed out 2 flutes of champagne to the Lucys and gave a little speech. "After years and years of friendship, today we celebrate 2 amazing people who are going to spend the rest of their lives together. We are to enjoy this day, whatever comes of it, we are to make memories and have the most amazing night tonight. To Lucy. and Laura" Jordan raised her glass and the girls followed, they clinked them together and downed the glass of liquid. "Let's do this" Lucy smiled.

2pm struck and everyone was arriving at the venue, Lucy was at the front of the venue greeting the guests. Familiar faces passed by, most of the guests Lucy knew, she either played football with them or went to school with them. Tonight Lucy was determined to enjoy herself, let her hair down a little. Football had been so demanding lately, these 2 weeks off for Christmas would hopefully do her the world of good. Once everyone was in they all took their seats, the chatter was now whispers as they waited for the most anticipated moment of the day.

Lucy sat herself between some footballers she knew on the second row. Stani's and Laura's family were in the front row. The orchestra began to play, the moment was here. Stani began walking down the aisle, her beautiful white dress flowing down. Lucy could feel her eyes welling up with tears, her face was beaming with a big, bright smile. Stani seen her and smiled back shaking her head slightly- remembering what Lucy and said just a few hours ago about being emotional.

A few moments later when the 2 women at the front were exchanging their vows, the tears began again. Lucy reached up to wipe them but then felt a hand bump her thigh, giving her a tissue. As Lucy looked up she was met with the biggest brown eyes- like pools of chocolate- and the most beautiful smile she had ever seen. Lucy returned the smile, took the tissue and replied "I knew I had forgotten something, my mind was focused on not forgetting the rings. Thank you" Lucy smiled, "Perhaps you can thank me with a drink at the bar later on." the Spaniard grinned at Lucy and then refocused her eyes on the brides.

With that, Lucy's concentration out the window. Her stomach tightened as she tried her best to push down a feeling she'd not felt for a while. She knew that woman, she played for Manchester United. Although they had only met very briefly on the pitch after matches, there was no way Lucy could ever forget who she was. Lucy bit her lip and tried to hold in her blush. This women really was the most beautiful person she had ever laid eyes on.

As the afternoon went on, the ceremony came to a close and the after party began. Lucy was at a table with Stani, Laura, Jordan and Demi. Telling stories about each other, some more embarrassing than others. Lucy sat rolling the bottom of her empty beer glass around the table, contemplating whether she should get another. She looked around the table and seen that most of the glasses were empty, perfect. "Who wants another drink?" Lucy stood up while everyone shouted their orders to her.

She headed through the crowd, making her way to the bar when a few of her England teammates grabbed her. "Hey Luce, how's things? We know your schedule has been crazy lately. Come over to our table!" Alessia took Lucy by the hand and pulled her over to their table. She sat down next to Ella who as always was incredibly loud, even more so with a few cocktails in her. She looked around and saw Maya, Millie, Mary, Rachel and a few other United teammates amongst other Lionesses. But it wasn't until she heard a very familiar voice arrive at the table with a tray full of shots.

"Hola! Shots anyone?" Ona held the tray and grinned. Lucy couldn't tear her eyes away from the brunette. She could feel the blush creep up her face when she seen her, her voice was raspy, probably from the singing. Ona smiled at Lucy and handed her a shot "For you, Lucia"
