Work Text:
Jinx wasn’t used to being chased. Usually, people avoided her like the plague. Not that she cared. She liked it that way.
She wasn’t some tragic loner—hell no. She had her bike, her band, and her engineering projects that her professors drooled over. That was more than enough.
But Lux Crownguard?
That girl was persistent.
“Hey, troublemaker~!”
Jinx barely had time to register the bright voice before Lux slid into the empty seat across from her in the campus café, setting down a frappuccino with an obnoxiously pink straw.
Jinx sighed, pushing up her goggles and flicking a wrench on the table. “What do you want, Princess?”
Lux beamed. “You~.”
Jinx choked on her coffee.
Lux didn’t even pretend to be subtle. For months now, she’d been openly flirting with Jinx—complimenting her ripped jeans, her leather jacket, even the grease stains on her fingers. Who the hell flirts over grease stains?
And worst of all, she did it in public. In front of everyone.
The student body couldn’t wrap their heads around it. Why would Luxanna Crownguard, the literal golden girl of Piltover-Zaun University, waste her time flirting with Jinx, the reckless delinquent who built explosives for fun?
People whispered about it between classes.
“Maybe Lux lost a bet.”
“She’s just being nice—no way she actually likes her.”
“Jinx is just entertainment to her. She’ll get bored.”
Jinx heard it all, but Lux? She didn’t give a single damn.
“Seriously, why are you here?” Jinx muttered, stirring her coffee aggressively.
Lux propped her chin in her hand, batting her lashes. “Because I like you, Jinx.”
Jinx groaned. “Why?”
Lux grinned. “Because you’re cool and hot and brilliant. Also, you looked really cute when you fell off your bike last week.”
Jinx glared. “I didn’t fall off. I was testing my brake mods.”
“Uh-huh. Sure.” Lux’s smirk was insufferable.
Jinx grumbled something under her breath and went back to tinkering with the broken radio she had on the table, hoping Lux would get bored and leave.
She didn’t. She never did.
And maybe—just maybe—Jinx was starting to like that.
—
Jinx wasn’t nervous about performing. She had been playing bass for years, tearing up the underground music scene with The Boomsticks, a ragtag band of STEM nerds and dropouts who knew how to party.
What did make her nervous, though?
The golden-haired, sun-kissed campus princess standing in the middle of the sweaty, chaotic crowd, looking completely out of place.
Lux Crownguard was here.
At a grunge biker bar.
Wearing a white blouse and a pleated skirt like she had just stepped out of a poetry reading instead of a place that reeked of cigarette smoke and beer.
Jinx gritted her teeth as she adjusted the strap of her bass. Of course she’s here. Of course she found out. Lux always found her.
The set started, and Jinx lost herself in the music. Loud, fast, electric—just how she liked it. The crowd roared, bodies moving to the beat, and Jinx let her fingers dance along the bass strings like second nature.
And yet—her eyes kept drifting to Lux. She wasn’t even trying to hide her staring. Lux had her arms crossed, a small smirk playing on her lips as if she knew exactly how much space she took up in Jinx’s head.
And dammit, she did. Jinx almost missed a chord.
But her mild internal crisis wasn’t the problem. The real problem was the guy standing way too close to Lux. At first, she ignored it. Lux was beautiful—she always had people gravitating toward her. But she never paid them any mind.
This guy, though? He wasn’t taking the hint.
Jinx’s jaw tightened as she played. She could see Lux trying to be polite, could see the way her smile was forced as she shook her head at whatever pickup line the guy was throwing at her.
Then his hand touched her waist.
Lux flinched.
And before Jinx even thought about it, she dropped her bass, stomped across the stage, and jumped.
The music cut out.
A collective gasp echoed in the bar as Jinx tackled the guy, knocking him straight to the sticky floor.
“You deaf, jackass?” Jinx growled, gripping his collar. “She said no.”
The guy sputtered, trying to push her off, but Jinx was strong. “What the hell—”
“Get lost before I break your teeth.” There was nothing playful in her tone.
The guy scrambled to his feet, backing away fast as murmurs spread through the crowd.
Jinx rolled her shoulders, standing up like nothing happened, but when she turned, Lux was looking at her like she had just painted the damn sky.
Like she was enchanted.
Jinx huffed. “You okay, Princess?”
Lux smiled, stepping forward, closer than ever, eyes shining.
“That,” she whispered, “was so hot.”
Jinx’s brain short-circuited. The crowd cheered, the band laughed, and Jinx? She was completely, utterly doomed.
—
Jinx had made a grave mistake. And her mistake had a name: Lux Crownguard.
Ever since the whole “punching a guy mid-performance” incident, Lux had been singing Jinx’s praises all over campus.
Like, literally singing.
“Did you know Jinx is so strong? Like, insanely strong.”
“She didn’t even hesitate, you guys. She just leaped off the stage! Superhero vibes.”
“Honestly, so hot. If she punched me, I think I’d say thank you.”
Jinx had never wanted to disappear into thin air more in her life. But she’d be lying if she said she hated it. Because, somehow, Lux’s endless flirting was becoming… comfortable. Maybe even a little fun.
But then—Lux stopped showing up.
No more enthusiastic greetings. No more random café encounters. No more shameless flirting in front of confused classmates.
At first, Jinx thought it was a trick. Then she learned—Lux was sick.
She’d heard some classmates talking about it. A fever, nothing major, but Lux had been absent from all her classes for the past few days.
Jinx should’ve felt relieved. Peace at last. But instead, there was a tiny nagging feeling in her chest. A feeling she definitely did not want to analyze. So she did the dumbest thing imaginable—she went to Lux’s social media.
Just to, you know. Check.
Lux’s profile was as annoyingly perfect as she was. Smiling selfies, group photos, snapshots of books, coffee, and the occasional super aesthetic poetry quotes.
Jinx scrolled mindlessly, lips twitching at Lux’s ridiculously fancy captions. Then, without thinking, she scrolled too far.
And there it was.
A photo from last summer.
Lux on a beach. Wearing a bikini. Sun-kissed skin, golden hair in soft waves, laughing at the camera like she belonged on the cover of a magazine.
Jinx’s brain shut down.
And her stupid, traitorous thumb double-tapped.
She froze.
Horrified.
A notification immediately popped up: You liked this post.
Jinx screamed.
She yanked her phone away like it was cursed, staring in horror.
A year-old bikini photo. From last summer. There was no way Lux wouldn’t see it. Jinx was so screwed.
—
Jinx’s phone buzzed violently in her hand. Notification after notification flooded her screen.
@ladyluminosity_ followed you.
Then—
DM from @ladyluminosity_:
LUX: OH MY GOD YOU LIKED MY PIC? FROM LAST YEAR???
LUX: JINX??
LUX: You totally miss me, don’t you?
LUX: Admit it.
LUX: Come onnnnn, say it~~
Jinx groaned, running a hand down her face. She knew she fucked up.
Big time.
She hesitated, debating if she should leave Lux on read and pretend none of this ever happened. But her fingers betrayed her.
JINX: No.
Almost instantly, the typing bubble popped up.
LUX: Yeah right~ 😉😉😉
Jinx gritted her teeth. She was not doing this today. And yet—she wasn’t ignoring Lux either.
The conversation kept going. Lux teasing, Jinx denying everything, both of them knowing damn well that Lux was right.
Then—
LUX: I miss you, y’know.
LUX: Send me a selfie?
Jinx’s brain short-circuited. Absolutely not.
JINX: Nope.
Lux sent a sad emoji, followed by about ten more for dramatic effect.
Jinx ignored it, shoving her phone into her pocket and heading straight to band practice. She wasn’t thinking about Lux. Not at all. Definitely not wondering if Lux was still waiting for a selfie.
Band practice was loud, chaotic, and just the distraction she needed. Jinx lost herself in the music, fingers dancing over the bass strings, head nodding to the beat.
But after a while, she found herself pulling out her phone.
Just for a second.
Just to—check.
No one was watching.
She opened the camera, barely even looking, snapped a quick selfie, and hit send before she could talk herself out of it.
Then she immediately dropped her phone on the amp and forced herself to focus back on practice.
But it was hard when her phone kept lighting up.
New notifications.
All from @ladyluminosity_.
Jinx’s heart did a weird little flip. And she really didn’t want to think about what that meant.
—
Jinx wasn’t the type to spend her weekend texting. She had better things to do—like fixing up her bike, jamming with her band, or making things that probably shouldn’t be made in a dorm room.
But somehow, against all logic and reason, she had spent her entire weekend DMing Lux Crownguard.
In her defense, she tried to ignore Lux. But Lux was persistent. And maybe—just maybe—Jinx wasn’t as bothered as she pretended to be.
It started with a simple instagram story.
Jinx had posted a clip from band practice—just a quick pan of the guys messing around, her bass resting against her knee.
Almost frighteningly fast, Lux reacted.
LUX: ohhh my godddd Jinx 😩🔥🔥🔥
LUX: You’re so cool I can’t stand it
LUX: I need to see you play live again pls pls pls
LUX: You're the hottest one in the band btw 😘😚😍
Jinx had barely processed those messages when she posted another story—a casual pic of her tinkering with her motorcycle, hands stained with grease.
Again, Lux pounced.
LUX: JINX.
LUX: STOP.
LUX: HOW ARE YOU THIS HOT WTF?? ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Jinx smirked. She was only human. Of course, she liked attention. Compliments.
Especially from a beautiful golden-haired English Lit major who, for some reason, was obsessed with her.
But then the DMs from other people started rolling in.
Ekko: Yo, you dating that blonde princess?
Akali: Wait… are you and Lux a thing???
Ezreal: Damn, you really pulled Crownguard?? Respect.
Jinx rolled her eyes and ignored all of them. But her mind kept drifting back to Lux. Later that night, while she was aimlessly scrolling, she saw it.
Lux had posted a video.
A viral dance challenge of some sort.
Something pop-y, with a lot of hip movements and hand gestures that should not have looked that good.
But of course—Lux made it look good. Jinx hated how long she watched it. How many times she rewatched it.
Lux was wearing a crop top. Hair in a messy bun. Smiling, laughing, looking like she had all the confidence in the world.
And Jinx, being the absolute fool she was, commented.
A single, black heart emoji. 🖤
And then—
LUX DMed her.
Again.
And the rest?
History.
—
The campus was buzzing.
It had been three days since the fateful black heart emoji incident, and apparently, that was enough for the entire student body to lose its collective mind.
Rumors spread like wildfire.
“Did you see Lux and Jinx’s flirty comments?”
“Lux Crownguard has never been this obvious about someone before.”
“Are they dating? No way, right?”
“Dude, Jinx hasn’t denied anything. That basically means yes.”
Jinx, personally, didn’t have the energy to deny anything. She had tried once—halfheartedly shrugged when someone asked, but her lack of resistance only made the rumors worse.
So she gave up. Lux, of course, thrived in the chaos.
Fully recovered from her sickness, she was back—trailing after Jinx like an overly enthusiastic golden retriever, flirting with zero shame, and making it painfully clear to everyone that she wasn’t giving up.
Jinx was doomed. And yet, somehow, she found herself agreeing when Lux asked to see her perform again. Not that she really had a choice. Lux wouldn’t take no for an answer, and Jinx knew it.
So, instead of fighting it, she just smirked and said, “Fine. You can come to band practice after class. That is—if you don’t mind riding with me on my bike.”
She expected Lux to hesitate.
She did not expect Lux to squeal.
Like, actual squeal.
Eyes sparkling, hands clapping, practically vibrating with excitement. “Are you kidding? Yes. A thousand times yes.”
Jinx blinked. “You’ve been on a bike before, right?”
Lux grinned. “Nope!”
Jinx groaned. “Great.”
But, true to her word, Lux was ready after class. Dressed in a cute little sundress, hair neatly tied, looking about as far from a biker chick as humanly possible.
And yet—when Jinx handed her a spare helmet, Lux took it without hesitation. “How do I look?” Lux asked, adjusting the strap.
Jinx glanced at her. And, unfortunately, she looked stupidly good. Jinx cleared her throat. “Like you have no idea what you’re getting into.”
Lux just smirked. “I love not knowing.”
With that, they took off. Lux clung to Jinx, arms wrapped tightly around her waist, laughing with pure joy as they sped through the streets.
Jinx? Jinx was in trouble.
By the time they arrived at the practice space, her entire band was staring. Zeri, their drummer, slowly lowered her sticks. “Dude… why is the campus princess on your bike?”
Ekko, their lead guitarist, raised an eyebrow. “Wait. Is she your groupie now?”
Jinx just sighed, pulling off her helmet. “Don’t ask.”
But Lux—Lux beamed. “Hi, everyone!” she said cheerfully. “I’m Lux, and I’m here to watch my favorite bassist play.”
Jinx groaned. The guys laughed. And just like that—Lux had officially invaded every part of Jinx’s life.
—
Jinx was doomed.
She had been doomed the moment Lux Crownguard set her sights on her. But today?
Today she was extra doomed.
Because Lux showed up to campus wearing an oversized Pentakill shirt. Tucked into a cute little skirt.
And Jinx—unfortunately—had eyes.
Pentakill was her favorite band. Everyone knew that.
But what nobody could have prepared her for was Lux Crownguard—golden-haired, sun-kissed, campus princess Lux—walking around in her band’s merch like she belonged at one of Jinx’s late-night gigs.
Jinx stared. She knew she was staring. She tried to look away, but her brain had fully short-circuited.
And of course—because Lux was Lux—she noticed.
She always noticed.
Lux smirked. Then, without any warning—She strutted over and sat on Jinx’s lap.
Jinx stopped breathing.
Brain? Gone.
Hands? Frozen at her sides.
Lux? Smug as hell.
Jinx could feel everything—Lux’s warmth, the way she leaned in, her soft perfume mixing with the scent of leather and campus coffee.
She’s sitting on my lap.
Lux Crownguard is sitting on my lap.
Her soul nearly left her body.
Lux tilted her head, voice pure mischief. “Do you like what I’m wearing?”
Jinx swallowed. Words? Did not exist. “Y-you—”
Lux grinned. “If you like it so much, we should take a selfie together.”
Jinx’s brain fully short-circuited. And because she was an absolute fool—she did not say no.
Lux pulled out her phone, already flipping the camera to selfie mode, adjusting her hair like this was the most normal thing in the world.
And Jinx?
Jinx sat there, looking completely dumbfounded.
Click.
The screen froze.
A picture of Lux Crownguard, sitting comfortably on Jinx’s lap, wearing a Pentakill shirt, looking hot as hell—
And Jinx? Jinx looking like she had just seen God.
Lux giggled, checking the photo. Then, without hesitation, she posted it.
Jinx saw the caption flash on her screen.
@ladyluminosity_: “Rockstar privileges 🎸🖤”
Jinx was never going to survive this.
—
Jinx did something unthinkable today.
She DMed Lux first.
Just a simple “hi.”
And Lux? Lux responded in seconds.
LUX: Hiiiii 🥰✨🎸💖
Jinx rolled her eyes at the obscene amount of emojis. But she smirked. Just a little. She got straight to the point.
JINX: Can you give me a ride to campus today?
JINX: Bike’s being a bitch. No one else is free. Got a quiz later.
She expected Lux to make fun of her for asking. But instead—
LUX: OMG YESSS 😍 I’d LOVE to drive you!!
LUX: I’ll be there in 10!!
Jinx stared at the screen. That was… way too much enthusiasm for a simple favor. But, then again—this was Lux.
And true to her word, Lux pulled up outside Jinx’s dorm exactly ten minutes later. She was driving some ridiculously fancy car—sleek, white, definitely expensive.
Jinx let out a low whistle as she slid into the passenger seat. “Damn, princess. How rich are you?”
Lux grinned. “Rich enough to be your chauffeur today.”
Jinx snorted. “Don’t get used to it.”
But honestly? The drive wasn’t bad. Lux was practically buzzing with excitement, fingers tapping against the wheel, music playing softly in the background. She was talking about something—probably something flirty—but Jinx wasn’t fully listening.
Because, for once… She didn’t mind the attention. She actually thought Lux looked kind of… adorable. Golden hair catching the sunlight. Eyes bright. Smiling like Jinx had just made her entire day by simply existing.
Jinx exhaled, shaking her head. “You really love this, huh?”
Lux turned to her with a brilliant smile. “Love what?”
Jinx smirked, resting her elbow on the window.
“Getting to drive me around like I’m your girlfriend.”
Lux gasped dramatically, placing a hand over her heart. “Jinx, please. Are you flirting with me?”
Jinx rolled her eyes. “You wish, princess.”
Lux just giggled. And honestly? Jinx wasn’t sure she was joking.
—
Jinx walked into the cafeteria, still shaking off the mental exhaustion from her quiz—only to find Lux Crownguard, standing there, waiting for her.
She blinked. “You been waiting long?”
Lux shook her head, smiling. “Not at all.”
Jinx hesitated for a second. Then, for the second time today, she did something unthinkable. (But was it really unthinkable? Jinx wondered.)
“Wanna grab lunch?” Jinx asked. “My treat.”
Lux’s eyes lit up. “Wait—seriously?”
Jinx shrugged, stuffing her hands into her pockets. “Yeah. Just—y’know. For giving me a ride earlier.”
Lux beamed.
Jinx had barely processed how bright Lux’s smile was before she found herself saying, “And maybe after, we can catch a movie or… whatever you wanna do.”
Lux let out a very excited gasp. “Are you asking me out on a date, Jinx?”
Jinx groaned, rubbing her face. “Jesus, princess, don’t make it weird.”
Lux giggled, linking her arm with Jinx’s. “Too late~!”
And just like that, they spent the rest of the day together.
—
First, lunch.
Jinx had barely sat down when Lux started stealing fries off her plate like she owned them. Jinx rolled her eyes but didn’t stop her.
(…She might’ve even pushed the plate closer.)
—
Then, the movie.
Lux dragged her into a romantic comedy.
Jinx had scoffed at first, muttering about predictable plots and cheesy dialogue. But somewhere along the way, she got invested.
(…She would never admit she teared up at the emotional climax.)
Lux, of course, noticed and teased the hell out of her.
(And Jinx, of course, threatened to leave her at the movie theater.)
—
And finally, the arcade.
Lux sucked at every shooting game. Jinx laughed her ass off.
Lux destroyed her in dance battles. Jinx refused to speak about it.
But at the end of it all, Jinx spotted a little Poro plushie in one of the claw machines. And for some reason, she decided she had to win it for Lux.
(It totally didn’t take five tries. Lux definitely didn’t record her failing multiple times.)
But eventually, Jinx won it.
And Lux? Lux looked at that stupid tiny plushie like it was the best gift she had ever received.
—
Everyone who knew them knew about their day—
Because, naturally, Lux posted a series of stories on Instagram.
Photos.
Videos.
One of Jinx laughing.
One of Lux holding the poro plushie like a treasure.
One where Lux wrote “My date was a total softie today” with a wink emoji—
To which Jinx immediately commented, “Delete this before I sue.”
Lux responded with “Make me 😘”.
—
Jinx couldn’t deny it anymore.
Not after today. Not after spending an entire day with Lux—laughing, teasing, watching her light up over a stupid little poro plushie.
If Jinx was being honest, she was pretty sure she fell for Lux a long time ago.
But, to be fair— She liked the chase. She liked Lux’s shameless flirting, her persistence, the way she boldly declared her feelings with no hesitation.
Jinx liked watching Lux try—liked knowing she had someone like Lux Crownguard choosing her, again and again.
But now? Now, she was done pretending. Because—seriously—how could she not fall for Lux? The girl was sweet. Funny. Adorable. Perfect.
And now, Jinx had a problem.
How do you confess to the girl who’s been confessing to you since the day you met?
Everyone already knew Lux was into her. Lux herself had been so vocal about it for months. So if Jinx was gonna do this… She had to do something big.
—
Lux never missed her band’s performances. She came every single time, standing front and center, eyes locked on Jinx the entire set.
(Which, yeah—was kind of distracting.)
And every single time, Jinx did her usual thing—just playing bass.
But tonight— Tonight, Jinx was gonna do something different. Tonight, she was gonna sing.
For Lux.
—
Jinx had never felt this nervous stepping on stage before. But the moment she spotted Lux in the crowd—smiling, waiting, always there—she felt something click inside her.
And so, when the set was almost over, Jinx did it. She grabbed the mic.
“Alright, listen up.”
The crowd quieted.
Lux blinked.
Jinx never spoke during performances.
“I, uh—kinda wrote a song,” Jinx said, rubbing the back of her neck. “For someone special.”
A murmur ran through the audience.
Lux tilted her head.
Jinx exhaled. “This one’s for you, princess.”
And then— She sang.
—
Jinx didn’t know what she expected. Maybe for Lux to tease her later. Maybe for Lux to absolutely lose her mind and scream in excitement. But what she wasn’t expecting…
Was for Lux to look at her like she just gave her the whole damn universe.
Like Jinx was all she ever wanted. Like Jinx was it for her. And Jinx realized, Lux had always looked at her that way. She had just been too much of an idiot to let herself believe it.
The moment the show ended, Lux ran to Jinx, throwing her arms around her neck.
“You are so my girlfriend now.”
Jinx chuckled, resting her forehead against Lux’s. “Yeah, yeah. Don’t rub it in.”
Lux grinned. “Oh, I’m definitely rubbing it in.”
Jinx laughed.
Then—because she could, because Lux was hers now— She kissed her.
Later that night, Jinx, still feeling ballsy from the performance, posted a photo of them together—Lux clinging to her, both of them grinning like idiots.
JINX: Yeah, yeah. We’re girlfriends now. Happy, princess?
Lux immediately commented: HAPPIEST 🥰💖🎸✨
And then—
The comments flooded in.
VI: Took you long enough, dumbass.
EZREAL: Wait, this wasn’t already official???
KATARINA: We’ve been calling you two a couple for months.
CAITLYN: Literally no one is surprised.
SERAPHINE: Awww, congrats!! 💕
EKKO: Finally. Lux has been playing the long game lmao.
AHRI: It was inevitable. You had no chance, Jinx.
Jinx stared at her screen. Then at Lux, who was looking at her way too smug. Jinx groaned. “God, I hate that everyone was right about us.”
Lux giggled, wrapping her arms around Jinx’s waist. “Told you I’d make you fall for me.”
Jinx huffed, but she couldn’t help but smile. “Yeah, yeah. Whatever, princess.”
But she hugged Lux back, holding her close. Because, yeah. Lux was right.
Jinx had never stood a chance.
