it was a Friday afternoon and Tokoyami was chilling on his bed without his bird head one, scrolling through his phone with Lili 'cause he didn't expect anyone to come it to his room. that was until you showed, barging through his door - yes Tokoyami's door was locked but you managed to get a spare key to his dorm, so you liked letting yourself in. a lot - Tokoyami didn't have the chance to grab his head between you opening the door, closing it and looking at where your boyfriend was lying on his bed with Lili curled up on his lap. all Toko could do is look up at you in shock about the scene that layout before the three of you.
"Fumi? is that you?" you asked unsure of what you were witnessing. you were sure it was him because of Lili and how calm they were being, but you were surprised to see your usually feathery boyfriend with a bird head. 'does anyone else know? did he get hit by a quirk? what is happening?' so many things were running through your head right now and they were interrupted when Tokoyami spoke up.
"yes, it's me, my love" Fumi replied, getting up from the bed to reassure you it was in fact him. "the only people that know are my friends, parents, teachers, some pro's like Hawks and now you"
you both ended falling asleep together with Lilli curled up between both of you.
the weekend went buy faster that both of you had hoped, though you both had fun and you got used to the fact that your bird boyfriend wasn't in fact a bird. you still loved him though, you also learnt that his head was custom made and that the only part of bird features that stayed was the red on his neck, along with how his nose was slightly yellow to represent his beak. his feathers also followed how his hair naturally stayed, which you found interesting.
when home room rolled around on Monday, you and Tokoyami, along with his friends were the first ones into class. at first they didn't question why he wasn't in his normal bird get up but didn't think to question it because Tokoyami didn't seem to notice, nor did you. that was until Iida walked into the classroom with Midoriya and pointed it out.
Iida, being the the 'rule follower' that he is, walked up to your group and tapped Tokoyami on the shoulder. as Tokoyami turned around Iida spoke up "I'm sorry for sounding rude, but are you sure that your in this class. are you new here, buy any chance and if you are I'm - "
Tokoyami cut Iida off "Iida, I know who you are and no I'm not new here we've been in the same class for a while now. have you hit your head or something?"
"uhhhh, Fumi, your uh..." you said gesturing to his head, as you did he mouthed an 'oh' surprised look on his face.
"yeah, sorry for not telling you sooner man" Shouji finally said
"welp, I guess there's nothing I can do about it now. at least Mr Aizawa and the other teachers know." Tokoyami said, then turned to Iida and said, pointing at him to prove a point "don't tell anyone, I want to see the looks on their faces thinking that I've gone missing and some rando has taken my place, you can tell Midoriya as he's already hear but no one else, promise" with that Iida just nodded and went back to his seat, telling Midoriya the situation.
as the day went on there was a lot of giggling from you and Tokoyami as everyone - minus those who knew in their class and in the school - was trying to figure out who Tokoyami was and where Tokoyami was, even if they were unknowingly having a conversation with him. Aizawa as usual couldn't care less - yes Aizawa is in on the little prank that the four of you have going on, the man needs some entertainment in his life - and honestly he found it funny to see his class confused about their 'missing' classmate that they had been having conversations with the entire day 'getting to know him'.
~back in the dorms, after school~
"that was one strange and funny day, especially the fact that Mr Aizawa was in on it too" you said, laying on your boyfriends bed, already changes into comfortable clothes, Tokoyami hummed in agreement grabbing his bird head, putting it on as he was walking to his door
"want to confuse them even more with me, my love" he asked stepping out the door, head on.
"always, babe" you replied following him downstairs where the most of the class was
once the two of you were downstairs, everyone could hear the two of you talking (you were deliberately talking louder than normal to get their attention), Bakugou just rolled his eyes and half yelled "would you shut up bird brai- wait bird brain?"
"yeah what???" Mina yelled from where she was sitting, clearly confused "we all thought u were missing" the rest of the Baku-squad humming in agreement. others around them also agreed, the two of you looking at each other nodding at one another knowing what to do
"about that, the 'stranger' you all thought was a new kid, and somehow didn't realise was me - even during quirk training today - was in fact me and you all bought it" Tokoyami said, smiling under his mask
most of the class collectively yelled "WHAT!!"
there were a lot of 'that explains a lot's and 'how did I not realise sooner's from the class, but one comment stood out the most and it was from Jirou "man ya'll are dense, I realised when I saw. yes his face changed but not his neck"
"well someone notice, though it is Jirou and we do have jamming sessions a lot so it makes sense" Tokoyami mumbled. he then spoke up so everyone could hear while taking his bird head off "don't need this anymore then"
Tokoyami continued to not wear his bird head around the dorms and to most of his classes, mostly wearing it for hero training and when not on school grounds. Lili also got more used to seeing Tokoyami without his bird like features and came out more to socialise the more she got comfortable.
