Chapter Text
Act I Scene I: The Beginning in the Tower
Scents of freshly baked dough, sounds of birdsong, and a soft breeze flittered through the faint blue curtains. The sun slowly crept across the floor, warming the floor that led to the sleeping princess. As the morning sun touched the sheets, the white bed began to glow, and soft, pale blue light filled the room. The sun struck the white and blue hair, and the room began illuminate like a sea, with the waves of light slowly moving across it. The sun continued to creep, until it caught the small droplets and they joined the reflective ocean in the room. Slowly moving, the princess sat up and stretched out her arms up and towards the sun beams.
Suddenly, the glowing ocean of light vanished as the curtains were drawn and the window shut. “Furina!” A voice scolded. “How many times I have told you that leaving this window open will attract bugs?” The droplet eyes slowly trailed to where the voice originated, Focalors, stood with her arms crossed and staring down at her. “Sorry Madam..” Furina responded and drew her legs closer to her. “It was warm last night and I thought only a little bit would be okay.”
Click. Click. Click.
Each long step down the stairs were heard throughout the room, as Focalors approached Furina. “Silly girl, you should have called, I could have fetched you a fan to cool off. Come.” Furina knew this routine too well, she would sit at her vanity as Focalors brushed out her long hair and told her of the outside world. It was always scary stories, focusing on the crime in Fontaine and how poor the city has become since they lost their Princess. “Today is a very special day, Miss Furina. Sir Nuevillete will be appearing today to give a speech about the succession of the throne. He hopes to calm the citizens, who are panicking due to the recent uprising. I sure do hope that someone charming is crowned.”
Furina stared at her only known mother in the mirror and nodded, her lips tight. The uprising, as Focalors has shared, is a group of individuals who are seeking to harm the citizens of Fontaine and to take their land from the government. While she had never felt danger in her room, Furina knew of the stories she had been told of war and famine in Fontaine and other regions of the world. Focalors gave a soft sigh, “You are so lucky to be here, my sweet girl. Living in the world today would be a nightmare for you, my dear Furina.” Focalors swiped the brush gently through the strands, the blue silver glistening in response, “Don’t just sit there and stare, say thank you girl.”
Lowering her eyes from making contact, Furina muttered a small ‘thank you mother’ as Focalors finished combing out her hair. Furina was never quite sure why her mother loved her hair so, or why it glowed, all she knew was that she was to never cut it. Here they would sit, for hours, every day with Focalors brushing out Furina’s long hair and whispering to it, as well as telling stories. Despite the sometimes prickly outside, Furina often found comfort with her mother at times like this and was often happy when able to talk with her. After all, Focalors was her only family, and the only person who knew she existed in this room. “Oh my darling, I promise I have not forgotten bringing you by some new books, I just have not had time to stop by the library. Maybe I will go find some for you today, as long as Sir Nuevillete’s message is pleasing, I am sure the village people will love a trade.”
With the promise of a new book, Furina’s eyes lit up and a large smile grew on her lips. “Oh really Mother? That would be so amazing! I really liked the story of the knight who-“ “Shush girl! Don’t you hear that?” Abruptly, Focalors’ hand snapped over her mouth and she was silenced. In the distance, a small revelry could be heard, announcing Sir Nuevillete’s carriage into the streets of Fontaine. “He’s coming! Alright Furina, give me those tears.” Before being able to react, Furina’s hand was taken and one of her delicate fingers was poked, causing blood to begin to swell at her fingertip. Instantly, her teardrop eyes filled with mist, which Focalors gently wiped away and collected in a small bottle. “Clean yourself up. I’ll bring you a gift. You don’t want to look ugly, now do you?”
Before she could fully comprehend what was happening, Focalors whisked off up the stairs and out into the world. Furina tried to see past but only caught a glimpse of blue sky and a small white cloud. The door slammed shut and the outside curtain drew closed, leaving the room around Furina to become quickly enclosed in darkness.
