Chapter Text
“I just have no idea what to do regarding him, it is as if he will do anything to win my heart over!” Sonia sighed. She was enjoying a beach day with her friends, trying to keep even the thought of Kazuichi from ruining her and everyone else’s mood.
“Well in that case, maybe you should look at it from a different perspective?” Mahiru wisely pointed out. As much as she didn’t want to, Sonia had to admit it was a reasonable point. “Like, think about what you could do with him!” Sonia already knew where Mahiru was going with this point, but she decided to confirm it anyway. “Mahiru! What are you implying I do?” Sonia asked innocently, making an attempt not to give herself away.
“My…Our point is Sonia, you should fake date him!”
“Yeah!” Hiyoko interrupted. “You could use him for sooo much stuff! And if he’s smart enough to figure it out, he’ll just leave you alone forever!” she added, smiling innocently. The rest of the girls nodded and giggled in agreement. Sonia found herself nodding along with them. While she wasn’t fully convinced, or even sure she could pull through with this, Sonia definitely agreed with Hiyoko’s logic. She was right, there was no way he’d ever realize he was being played!
After mentally weighing all the pros and cons of their future ‘relationship’ trying to figure out if pretending to date someone like Kazuichi was worth it in the long run, Sonia finally made a decision.”Alright, I have come to a conclusion,” She took a deep breath before carrying on. “I will pretend to be his girlfriend, at the very least to see how it goes.”
Before she could continue, her friends pulled her into a hug. “Wow Sonia, you’re too kind! If I were you, I wouldn’t dare to date that nasty pig!” Hiyoko exclaimed, trying not to sound proud of Sonia. “Well, be sure to let us know how it goes!” Mahiru added excitedly.
Sonia walked up to the door of Kazuichi’s hut. It was now the early evening, and she chose to ‘propose’ sooner rather than later, not wanting to spend any more time putting it off. She paused for a second. Sonia felt rather bad about lying to him,but remembering the times he acted creepy, or even just disrespectful towards her made her want to follow through with this plan even more. After taking a final deep breath, she took a slow step up to his door, and gave it a gentle knock.
Standing in front of his door felt like ages to Sonia, and she began to wonder whether it was just her nerves or him being slow. At last, she heard the sound of keys jingling, trying to unlock the door.
“Yes?” Kazuichi swung his door open before taking a step back in surprise. “M-Miss Sonia! What are you doing here?” The possibilities of why she was here were endless, and swirling through his head. He mentally prepared himself for the worst, and fully opened the door.
“I have to talk to you,” Sonia said. She hoped it didn’t come across as too serious or rude, as that could throw Kazuichi’s impression of her proposal off.
“I… like you too, Soda.”Kazuichi was taken aback by the sudden change in Sonia’s attitude, but before he could say anything, Sonia continued her speech “I am aware it may not come across that way, and I do apologize for that. I just…just felt quite pressured by others and was worried they would comment on me liking you,”
At this point, Kazuichi was completely dumbfounded. On one hand, he simply couldn’t believe that Sonia, the girl who would constantly urge him to be quiet, the girl who would get visibly uncomfortable whenever he was close to her, really just confessed her love to him. Something inside of him was telling him she was just joking, or even worse, taking advantage of him. However, part of him was hopeful she was being genuine, and he was just overthinking.
“R-really? You’re… not kidding, Miss Sonia?”
Sonia knew he would ask this question eventually. In fact, this scenario was exactly the one she was preparing for on the way to Kazuichi’s hut. She took a deep breath, thinking this through one last time. She knew that whatever she said would affect her life for the next few weeks, and her overall relationship with him. “Indeed, Soda. I am quite fond of you, really.” she said, forcing a smile onto her lips.
At this point, Kazuichi had tears glazing over his eyes. Sonia couldn’t put her finger on whether he was sad or happy, but knowing him she chalked it up to being both. Before she could process that however, Kazuichi pulled her into a strong hug. Sonia awkwardly put her hands around him, being careful not to touch him more than was needed. She watched him silently sob into her chest, staining it with tears. Hoping to find a good moment to interrupt him and do what she came to do, Sonia tried to break the news as genuinely as possible.
“Soda, what do you say about being my boyfriend? I certainly know I would find it an honor to be your girlfriend.”
She put her arm on his cheek, gently caressing it. “Miss Sonia! I really want to be your boyfriend! I swear!” Kazuichi hurriedly answered, his eyes lit up in excitement. A bright red blush that made him look like a lobster slowly appeared on his cheeks. He still couldn’t believe Miss Sonia, out of all people, really wanted to go out with him. It felt surreal, as if he was just dreaming, and would wake up soon.
Suddenly, Sonia found herself a little tired, trying her hardest not to yawn. Even though they were officially ‘dating’, staying too long in one space with Kazuichi was not something she was particularly keen on. “It is getting rather late, is it not, Soda?” She looked out the window at the tropical sunset outside. “I would hate to overstay my welcome, I should head out for the night.” Sonia added.
“Oh… that’s fine Miss Sonia! See you tomorrow!” He hugged her for the last time, and opened the door for her, watching as she walked out into the sunset and into the direction of her own hut.
